We are at the bottom of the league by a lot.  The only team to shoot less than 40% against us thus far was Gtown in the first game and they shot a respectable 35%.  Add that to our league worst 3-pt shooting percentage and it's a recipe for disaster in today's game.

It's because we don't play zone and switch defenses.

bing bing bing - correct answer.  I know the man to man worked in louies days but with no bench , crappy rebounding and abysmal 3 point D you would think with the athletes we have playing a zone would be the right thing to do .

BTW a young suzanne sommers only to be topped by

This team is built for the 1-3-1. Is there a better top for that zone than Simon with his length and athletic ability? Is there a better baseline defender than Ponds with his hands and rebounding? It's just crazy the staff insists on man.

I've been screaming for this team to play multiple zone defenses since Year 1 of this regime.

This season, even more so than the first two seasons because of the lack of depth.  It could also play to their strength(s) and help save their energy.

I thought the opposite - that it's easier to shoot 3's against zone than man as zones tend to concentrate defenders nearer the basket leaving more room to shoot on the perimeter.

Mix up the defenses (between zone defenses and man).  Also properly, played zone (especially, against a team who doesn't particularly pass or space well) can wreak havoc.

It would also play to our strengths due to our ability to block shots (there would be weak side blocked shots) and our knack for deflections and garnering steals.  Ponds and Simon could create issues, per playing the passing lanes.  Once again, it'll also give the team fresher legs down the stretch in ball games.

I actually hate zone. It is a lazy man's defense. Ponds, Simon and particularly Ahmed are slow to get out on three point shooters on rotations and sometimes just guarding their own man.
I do agree probably should have tried to mix it in for portion of games especially after Lovett thing since we were so undermanned.
Not sure would have helped and might have hurt though.
