Doughty Released
« on: April 24, 2015, 06:42:54 PM »
@R_Miller12: St. John's grants 6'5 MCS (PA) G Samir Doughty his release from his NLI. Plenty of schools showing interest per a source.

“The main reason Samir chose St. John’s is (coach) Steve Lavin,” Jackson said.

would explain why he was granted his release...judging by that same article, doesn't look like there were any big programs looking at him...Lasalle, George Mason, Seton Hall.

I actually started watching a bunch of videos on him the last week and actually really liked what I saw...Oh well, have to believe this means we have Ellison locked up but wonder what turned the staff off of Doughty

Can someone explain what's going on with the turnover? This is very disappointing.

Sure, I'll explain. The new staff has come in and is going to run this program with the players they choose and will kick the detrimental players out of the program. Some players that have committed to the prior staff have decided to go elsewhere, as is what happens at every school when there is a coaching change.

The 15-16 season was always slated to a rebuilding a transitional season and the new staff is making sure they are brining in players that will make this a consistently competitive program

This actually really sucks. Someone please tell me we aren't really going to start the 2015-16 season with FB as our starting 2 guard.  How did we lose our starting and backup 2 in the span of 4 days.

And Samir could also handle the ball. What happens when Rysheed gets in foul trouble/tired...whos our point guard (not saying Sheed is much of one either)

Imperative now we get (2/3) Malik, Lovett, Mussini

the new coach wants his own players?  this is pretty normal with a coaching change

This has been in the works for awhile.. Kid is going to be good and 100% wanted to be here.  New staff has a plan and hopefully we get ellison to offset this loss .

Almost all the turnover quite frankly are non-issues.

Delarosa brothers either hardly played or didn't play at all.  Stewart was a walk-on.

The recruits are players who hadn't played yet.  Sampson we all know the staff wanted him.  Doughty was solid but Ellison is more than a reasonable replacement.

Bottom lin is the 3 players we all wanted when the coaching change happened with regards to who they inherited were: 1) Jordan return, 2) Obekpa to return and 3) Sampson to stay committed.  #3 stunk but hardly the end of the world.  2 out of 3 is not bad.

Everyone else quite frankly is more than replaceable.  And the recruiting has been solid and can and will get better both this year and next.

Seems harsh to cut a kid loose who signed an LOI and wanted to be here, but guess that's the business.  Assume the plan has to do with 2016 SG target(s).
