QUEENS, N.Y. (Dec. 15, 2015) – After helping St. John’s post victories against in-state foes Syracuse and Niagara, freshman guard Federico Mussini (Reggio Emilia, Italy) has received Weekly Honorable Mention accolades from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA).
The honor is the second of the week for Mussini, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Mussini averaged a team-leading 14.0 points per game, while shooting 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from long range as part of an overall 47.4 percent (9-of-19) shooting effort. In 36.0 minutes, the guard dished out 2.5 assists and grabbed 3.5 rebounds.
In an 84-72 victory against the Orange in front of 13,473 fans at Madison Square Garden, Mussini made 5-of-7 3-pointers as part of a team-high 17-point performance. The guard added three assists and three rebounds as the Red Storm defeated its former BIG EAST rival for the second-straight season.
Mussini also led the squad in scoring with 11 points against Niagara.
St. John’s (7-3) returns to action on Friday as the squad hosts Incarnate Word for a 7 p.m. game at Carnesecca Arena airing on FS1.
