QUEENS, N.Y. (June 21, 2010) – Head coach Steve Lavin and the St. John’s men’s basketball staff will host a two-day Shooting Clinic for boys, grades 1-12, on June 29-30 at Taffner Field House.
“In addition to our traditional week long summer basketball camps held in August, we will also be holding a clinic that will focus specifically on the skill of shooting,” said Lavin.
The clinic is open to all boys, grades 1-12. Clinic participants will be grouped by grade (1-5, 6-8, 9-12) to maximize skill development.
The St. John’s coaching staff – touted as one of the “most diverse and specialized staffs in the country” – will serve as clinic instructors. The staff includes assistant coaches Mike Dunlap (who coached at Oregon and Arizona in addition to the Denver Nuggets of the NBA) native New Yorker and former Columbia University star Tony Chiles (Drexel, Manhattan, Iona) and former UCLA standout Rico Hines (former assistant coach of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors).
In addition to the clinic, the 2010 Steve Lavin St. John’s Summer Basketball Camp will have two sessions this summer. Session I’s Five-Day Instructional Camp runs from Aug. 9-13, while Session II’s Five-Day Instructional Camp runs from August 16-20.
All camps and clinics take place in air-conditioned Taffner Field House on the St. John’s University Queens campus.
