QUEENS, N.Y. (July 13, 2010) – St. John’s University’s Official Athletics Website, www.RedStormSports.com, has announced the addition of up-and-coming New York area sportswriter, blogger and social media enthusiast Susan Shan to its cast of contributors. Shan will provide written content and serve as an on-camera host, announcer, anchor and reporter for RedStormSports.com’s StormTracker All-Access live and on-demand video platform.
“RedStormSports.com is coming off of a record-breaking year in 2009-10, breaking its all-time traffic record by more than 750,000 total page views and increasing its unique visitors by an average of more than 11,000 per month,” reported Ralph Bednarczyk, St. John’s Director of Multimedia Services. ”We are excited to add Susan Shan to our team. She is on the cutting edge in terms of content, and is extremely dedicated to delivering for the New York sports fan.”
Shan will bring her unique brand of smart, edgy analysis to RedStormSports.com beginning in the summer of 2010. An avid sports fan since the age of five, victory in a major sportswriting competition landed her one-on-one interviews with then-Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia at only 16 years of age. Shan went on to graduate from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in creative writing. Once a professional poker player, Shan has now returned to her passion, creative sports blogging, and launched her own website in early July 2010, www.SusanShan.com. She is active on Twitter at www.twitter.com/Susan_Shan and Facebook.
“I am looking forward to bringing a fresh perspective to RedStormSports.com,” said Shan. “One edge I have as a sports commentator is my dedication to connecting with fans. Red Storm Sports fans will find me easily accessible on social media outlets like Twitter, Facebook and my blog, SusanShan.com. Fans can ask for my opinions as well as suggest questions to relay to players and coaches in upcoming interviews. I am looking forward to a thoroughly entertaining season.”
Shan joins a solid core of RedStormSports.com talent that includes Bednarczyk, who has served as “the Voice of RedStormSports.com” and a back-up play-by-play announcer for men’s basketball broadcasts on Bloomberg 1130-AM for the last four seasons, Greg Rice, who has been a StormTracker All-Access analyst since 2008, and Tommy Weber, who has served as a commentator on RedStormSports.com baseball broadcasts for the last two seasons. The RedStormSports.com StormTracker All-Access stable of announcers also include: Sid Farooqi, Scott Miller, Matt Shortis, Jon Lauder, Seth Cantor, Jaden Daley and Mike Leslie. St. John’s Assistant Director of Multimedia Services Brendan Furlong was recently added to the RedStormSports.com staff to serve as a lead game producer.
