As the Steve Lavin rumors swirl around the country, he is meeting with Athletic Director Chris Monasch today which could potentially lead to Lavin officially becoming the next coach of St. John’s.
“He wants to be the next coach for St. John’s and be there for a long time.” a source close to Lavin told JohnnyJungle.com
Lavin has already began assembling an all-star coaching staff to aid him to Big East prominence which is one of AD Chris Monasch’s requirements in the interviewing process. He has reached out to both Dave Leitao and Jay Williams in the past 72 hours.
However Lavin isn’t only selling himself to the school as the school also has to sell themselves to Lavin and staff.
St. John’s must show that they are committed to being a basketball powerhouse again and that the whole athletic administration and staff is behind the program. This is one potential snag according to a source close to Lavin.
AD Chris Monasch should have no problem convincing Lavin on that as the University has undergone major overhauls over the past few years with their facilities and media strategies.
Throughout this coaching process the media coverage has extended nationally. Andy Katz, Jeff Goodman, Seth Davis, Greg Anthony, SNY, ESPN, CBS, Daily News, Post, etc. have all reported on everything and anything concerning St. John’s. For a team that is deemed to have lost its relevance people seem to love talking about them.
Imagine the potential if St. John’s put a winning product back on the court?
Imagine Dave Leitao and Jay Williams on the sidelines next to Lavin?
Imagine the recruiting buzz that will instantly be created?
Well you can stop imagining because its all unfolding and becoming a reality.
