I guess the Elite Camp was worth it. 6'8 is an extremely generous estimate.
Hopefully he can be a package deal with his 2018 teammate Mamadou Doucour and any # of their PSA Cardinal teammates.

Not a bad guy to have in mix, but sense they are aggressively targeting Reid from NJ. Obviously getting him will be a challenge, but they appear to be positioned well IMO.

Fordham96 - wake up your hero Slice no longer works for SJU.

Dave what are the rules on this site you let people like fordham96 who is not a SJU grad post anything he wants and call out posters.

And people like me SJU grad who only calls out posters when they call me out I get reprimanded.

If you have a double standard please advise people of that.

I love your board I want to post something and not always see a wise comment from Fordham96.

Is it me or is this board not as excited about this commit as it should be?  Is it because folks are upset about Slice and are reluctant to tip their hats to a Matt recruit so soon?  I'm upset about Slice as well, but this seems like a really good start for 2018.  Thoughts?

Im thrilled with this local 4 start recruit popping two years early is awesome. I know some kids commit early and never sign but this kid is local, knows the staff and is close friends with Yakwe. I don't see him going anywhere else and I will be pumped to see him in a couple years.

Even if he's not 6'8", he's young and had plenty of growing to do.  Kid is a big pickup for us.  Staff needs to continue to lock down local talent like they have been and we will be very competitive in years coming.

Agreed - but fact is I cant recall an early verbal like this for us in a long time, so the fact that someone is willing to commit to us this early is a positive and can have a positive effect on recruiting even if a year from now things change.

college basketball is also not quite as cutthroat as college football with these kinds of early commits and people staying away, and he's local so we can keep showing the love easily.

The board is excited. It's definitely good news, and it broke a steak of what could be considered bad news. Personally, I'm not sad over losing a coach that accomplished nothing here. F him. That POS didn't deserve to get his name in the local paper when his contract was bought out. It's barely even news.

I like what the kid has to say about the school. Does anyone know how good this kid is? Is he a project or the kind of kid who can contribute day one. I like his size and the fact that he loves to rebound but he also mentions how he plays as more of a guard which is odd for a 6'8 player.

Thats tough, feel for the kid. Hopefully he get that fixed quick and get back on the court. Selfishly he got hurt like 16 months before coming on campus and for most knee injuries of this type it usually takes a year to get back to top level so hopefully he gets the right care.

Excellent idea.  Harry Giles enrolled immediately at Duke for 2nd semester of 2015-16 after his knee injury during his senior year for the same reason, I believe.

Very significant injury.  In football its worse than an ACL tear. Very few players recover and become as good as they were before.

Like reading that the team visited him while he was hospitalized. He was at plenty of Queens games last year, now officially apart of the program, good stuff.

So does he now become apart of the 2017 class as a RS freshman? Sid, Mikey and him quickly put the roster at 13 total scholarships, Holifield and 1-2 other walk-ons to round out the roster?

I read where he's enrolling at St John's early.  Class move by the school to help this kid in the wake of a terrible injury.

Doucoure for Rutgers, OSNA kid, just re-classed to 2017 and enrolled at Rutgers.

Still some indication that Diakite will do the same.

I know he had an injury, but if he can play, could he play or does he have to redshirt.
Just trying to understand exactly what this means.

We could always use another big man.

Would expect him to redshirt in light of serious injury rehab process. Secondly, he is more of a perimiter guy & raw  at this point.

This is about proper rehab and care. Don't expect anything from him. He's a RAW player so I doubt he would have added anything this season anyway. This year can be really important for his future even if he doesn't practice much.
