Colleges are now starting to jump into the game of the driven sophomore.
"We just came back from the West Virginia Elite camp. He was on the same team as Tobias (Harris) and they won the team championship," says Blue. According to Poole, West Virginia offered him a scholarship.
Poole has also received offers from DePaul, Central Florida, UConn, Hofstra, Michigan State and St. John's but according to Blue, "If Mike could go to any school right now, it would be St. John's. (Coach) Norm (Roberts) called him the first day they could." Mike Poole chimed in saying, "Yeah, I want to be close to home. That's a big factor to me."

thats real good news!
-
dun mean much. he's got a while to go in recruiting. i'm happy we are on top of the list though.
-
Now all he needs is a(n available) scholarship. What's his game though?
-
Thanks for the info oldred.
Nice to see the local kids seeing SJU in a more positive light.

we're ALWAYS on the top of the lists...until it's time to sign on the dotted line. hopefully this will change when the new coach is brought in.

I don't think we're "always" mentioned in the "top" of the list. Maybe we're in the list but we're hardly the favorite. Its ok to accept good news for a change and it is encouraging that we're his favorite. The big gripe on Norm past few seasons was that we were getting on kids to late in the game and now we're on a high major sophomore's favorite school. Take it for what its worth and you're right it doesn't mean anything til we seal the deal however its encouraging good news.

It is obviously good news that he mentions us, but are not we recruiting too many shooting guards while there are no news about other positions (point guards, centers)?

My brother here been hittin the nail on the head most recent, yo.

I don't know about that, though - recruiting-wise the staff seems to be getting the attention of wings/ versatile guards, for sure, but by 2009 there are two pgs in the fold (boothe, stith, assuming nothing funny happens with his verbal) some guys who can supposedly handle the ball (edmondson, roberts).
Staff needs to get some interest from big men, now.

Dont understand. This exactly what he say in July word-for-word. Dont think this is new?

Even though he's 2010, and the team doesn't have any scholarships to hand out (and if they do, it might be to JayVaughn Pinkston), I want to see this kid on the Storm. He's from Rosedale, after all.
-
Hopefully I'll be seeing him play this weekend.
-
Pretty soon St. John's is going to change its name from the Red Storm to the Panthers...

Fall leagues? I trust you'll come back with some scouting reports.

Yea IS8....from what I hear its not the greatest gauge as the talent level there really fluctuates but I'll be personally scouting and shadowing quite a few number of kids this weekend.

Pretty soon St. John's is going to change its name from the Red Storm to the Panthers...
... we could only hope.. if we can't get our actual name back - REDMEN - the "Red Panthers" would be just fine with me.. ;D .. anything is better than the bogus name we have now.. :D .. peace!

Actually I got a schedule conflict I won't be able to head to queens this weekend but I'm going to plan to attend a few IS8 games in the upcoming weekends
-
he doesn't play for the panthers anymore he left in the middle of the season. His coach describes his game the best by saying he is a jack of all trades but the master of none. He needs a handle big time and needs to mature if he gets those two things he could he top 50 in the country hands down
-
he'll play at iS8 for real scout express

Mike Poole (2010, 6-5 SG/SF)
Early in the game Poole caught our attention with a couple spectacular plays. He made a beautiful spin move getting by his man, then shot a high arcing floater over a defender that hit nothing but the bottom of the net. Poole followed this up by throwing down a monster dunk in traffic and directly over one unlucky defender. On another play he hit an off balance, one-handed shot off the glass. He was somewhat quiet later in the game.

IONA?
Mike Poole ’10, St. Benedict’s (NJ): Providence ,Kansas State, Iona, Florida International, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, USC,Norfolk State, and Duquesne
Offers: Providence ,Kansas State, Iona, Florida International, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, USC, and Duquesne
Favorites Providence, Iona, Duquesne, and Kansas State
-
He'd be good at Iona. He isn't a Big East player though.

Ya I was suprised that he had Iona lumped with Providence and Kansas St as his favorites.
-
Well PC is almost 3rd tier Big East when it comes to recruiting. They really get all the leftovers or recruits guys who other schools don't want. They always have a good amount of NYC based talent as well.
-
he holds offers from Virginia, Rhode Island, Florida, IONA and Providence.
-
Iona coach has done well there. Good for him.
-
He'd be ok for Providence. Kind of reminds me of Ced Jackson style player. I wasn't exactly impressed with him when I saw him play.
-
he holds offers from Virginia, Rhode Island, Florida, IONA and Providence.
He would kill it at IONA..

Shaheen Holloway does well recruiting Jersey and Scott Machado is from St Benedicts as well. Would be a great get

“Calhoun called the first day he got back,†said Blue, Poole’s adviser. “He let us know that he had a strong interest in Mike. [Assistant coach] Andre LaFleur also called and said he wanted me to know that they offered Mike. They had a recruiting meeting and a couple scholarships might open up.â€
-
I was kinda hoping he'd prep or just fall through the cracks, and perhaps come to St. John's. I know Dave doesn't love his game (I watched him live last summer as well), but I see how he can be a glue guy and perhaps develop into a playmaking guard - decent dribble, good length, even if his first step and shot are not elite in any way.
-
I think his advisor Blue is tight with UConn guys and I think UConn is scheming by offering him a scholly. What Big East teams will take the bait and offer him next. He isn't worth the scholly in my opinion.
-
He's not a UConn type player. He would not play there unless their recruiting falls off significantly.

http://www.zagsblog.com/2010/05/17/poole-down-to-rutgers-seton-hall/
I'd just like to point out that at this late date, Mike Poole is the target of a recruiting battle between Seton Hall and Rutgers... I think this is a sign that he's not a U Conn-type player.
