For Cause

It should have been for impersonating a basketball coach.

Former St. John's coach Mike Anderson said he will file an arbitration lawsuit against the school after he was terminated "for cause."

Per his contract, Anderson would have been owed $11 million if he had not been fired for cause, and he believes he was wrongfully terminated.

According to the termination letter obtained by ESPN, Anderson was fired for "failure to create and support an environment that strongly encourages student-athletes who are in the men's basketball program to meet all university academic requirements," "failure to perform your duties and responsibilities in a manner that reflected positively on St. John's University ... in actions [that] brought serious discredit" to the school and "failure to appropriately supervise and communicate with your assistant coaches."

Fire Cragg...

For giving Anderson that 11 million dollar buyout.  Now he says Anderson was incompetent?  Does anyone think Anderson forgot how to coach?

For coming up with an OOC schedule that ensured Anderson would coach a zillion years with an above .500 record.  Having a record above .500 doesn't mean you can't coach.

For showing he's over his head in the NIL department...thus needing a Repole comeback in order to compete with High Majors.  Before Repole, we were significantly insignificant in that department.

For having virtually every team in the athletic department in the tank.  OK, the ladies played to a decent level of incompetence...there's that.

Where are the upgrades?

Fire Cragg for cause.

Sounds like St. Johns wants to add a million in legal fees to the 11 million they'll end up rightfully owing.

Time for Anderson to retire. He’s done.

In all honesty, while I have not reviewed his contract and do not know the details of those random disciplinary suspensions during the season, if they are academic in nature that would support St. John's position. It is just a matter of how strictly they detailed the academic responsibility in his contract as related to "for cause".

He should never have been extended without any postseason on his resume for us, not even an NIT and it is a silly mess that we could have avoided. Although he looked like a nice guy and was well-respected for his coaching career he was not a great coach and certainly had a tall task to build up a NYC program with no legit connects here. Not a good hire.
