none of those teams are beating this year kids. Just watching them practice they aren't soft and they have a point guard

I understand why doubting Iona could win, but have you Siena play?

KOB, I'm curious...what is the back-up point guard situation?  Is it Ty Edmonson, Quincy Roberts or someone else?

JOnathan Huffman, the 7 foot Louisville transfer, hit 4 3's and was 9-9 from the floor. Watch out for him, he plays like a 3-might dominate in the MAAC

Guelph, Ontario- The Iona College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on its Canadian exhibition tour with a 104-69 win over Laurentian University this afternoon.  The Gaels had five players in double-digits led by junior Jonathan Huffman's 22 points.

Huffman torched the Voyageurs for 22 points on 9-for-9 shooting including four three pointers.  The 7-0 Louisville transfer added five rebounds and two blocks in in just 16 minutes of play.  Senior Gary Springer added 13 points and four rebounds in his 13 minutes of action while senior Devon Clarke, junior Milan Prodanovic and freshman Kyle Smyth each had 11.

The Gaels rookie point guard tandem of Scott Machado and Jermel Jenkins had a second straight solid performance, combining for 14 points, 10 assists and just four turnovers in the contest.   By himself, Machado netted nine points with four assists, three steals and two rebounds on 4-of-4 shooting from the field.

Sophomore Alejo Rodriguez struggled from the field but grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with his six points.

The Gaels shot an incredible 68.4 percent from the field and hit 12 of their 20 three point attempts (60%).  Iona out rebounded its opponent by a margin of 47-26 and forced 23 turnovers while recording 13 steals.

Laurentian was led by forward Matas Tirilis 13 points.  Tirilis shot 3-of-8 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.   Dave Otterbein added 11 while guards Paul Kovacs and Andrew Lalonde added 10 points a piece.

Iona completes its tour tomorrow with a noon tip-off against Ryerson University in Toronto.

Against poor teams, Paris Horne and DJ Kennedy looked like Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson.
Wait until Iona puts together something in the ballpark of a winning season.

So far, it's been what, 15 wins in 2 seasons? In the MAAC?

Yup, its happenning. Supposedly according to NCAA rules the schools are not allowed to advertise this and only team personnel will be in the gym

Iona was one of the top 25 teams in NY last year. Don't overlook them.

If you look at teams as they relate to the leagues they play in, Iona is the most interesting team in the Metro area this year. They'll be young at the outset, but they have the talent to beat some lower-echelon Big East teams. Siena would destroy several Big East teams.
I agree with the poster who said Iona will take the MAAC in 09-10. They are the only team that could conceivably give Siena problems in this year's MAAC tourney, though Siena is easily the best in the conference and a possible Top 25 team.

It could happen, but it's more than a bold prediction to say a team will go from bad to very good overnight just because of what they bring in.
