Mothers choice, he did his upperclassmen serious favor by doing so.

Coach Naclerio had the boys best interest at heart by keeping him on the JV... and I don't like White Castle either...

"Rashond Salnave, New York Gauchos, 2016 6-foot-2 guard - For the past two years, the New York Gauchos program has needed restoration and cleansing. The buzz surrounding their next big time player is what has most wondering how good Salnave can be. Playing under Ron Naclerio at Cardozo (NY) will help him continue to draw buzz. Salnave can pass, shoot it from deep, break his defender down and get to the basket. He is still polishing up his game and has a long way to go, but Seton Hall is the first school to get involved. The jury is still out, but it is still very early as the hype continues to find its way to him."

"- Ray Salnave (Cardozo, class of 2016): While the Judges participated in team camp with two sets of teams, Salnave excelled with the supporting cast at hand. Coming off a superb showing at Rumble in the Bronx 2013, Salnave demonstrated a phenomenal offensive arsenal on Saturday. The 6-1 guard caused havoc for defenders with the ball, showcasing a crafty handle. The rising sophomore demonstrated true scoring-guard attributes throughout the day, proving capable to break down opponents off the dribble while displaying a sharp jump-shot from beyond the perimeter."

BROOKLYN, NY - The Conrad McRae Youth League sparked up on Saturday as 27 high school teams began competing in pool play. NYCHoops.net checked out some of Sunday's action in an event that gives us glimpses of what we can expect in the fall.

Isaiah Whitehead, Elijah Davis & Desi Rodriguez
Lincoln douses Cardozo. 64-46
The players from Abraham Lincoln came out aggressively against Benjamin Cardozo players and there was a lot of trash talking. In the zone-less league where these intense one-on-one match-ups are all but expected, the tandem of Isaiah Whitehead, Elijah Davis and Desi Rodriguez put their money where their mouths were and Lincoln led 30-20 at the half.
The players from Dozo held serve in the third quarter with offensive fire power from 6'0" rising sophomore Rashon Salnave but could not gain ground as they only managed to trade buckets with the Brooklyn squad throughout the quarter. Still down by ten points to start the fourth quarter, the young Judges team proved to be no match for the veteran players from the defending PSAL City championship team.
While it is unsure whether or not Davis will return to Lincoln next season due to eligibility issue, it is clear with the addition of Elisha Boone, who did not play, the Railsplitters will be a tough cover next season in the Brooklyn PSAL Class AA.
Whitehead and Rodriguez led the way for Lincoln with 22 points apiece with Davis adding 20 points. Salnave was high man for Cardozo with a game high 23 points. - See more at:

NYC v. LI Shockers game last night.
"Salnave really showed just how good he could be in this one, scoring a game high 25 points for Cardozo, proving he is star in the making. McKennon added 15, and Mondesir chipped in 12 for the winners. In defeat, Green led St. Mary's with 18 points, with Milhaven and Govan each adding 14 as well. - See more at: http://nychoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1559482#sthash.FEa7ScR5.dpuf (http://nychoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1559482#sthash.FEa7ScR5.dpuf)

Ray Salnave & Jaquan McKennon
One came out on the winning end, while the other didn't have as much success. There was a third game as well on the docket, so here is a recap of the games from Bayside from Friday.
Cardozo "A" Escapes Holy Trinity, 62-58
This Cardozo team was coming off an impressive win over St. Mary's this past Tuesday, so maybe they took Holy Trinity a bit lightly, but the Titans gave them all they could handle, before falling by 4.
It looked like Cardozo was going to end this game early. Ray Salnave, the star for the Judges on Tuesday came out hot again, sinking a pair of floaters in the lane, and coming off a screen to nail a three from the right wing. Cardozo went up 17-5 and looked to have a comfortable lead, but as soon as Holy Trinity inserted junior Billy Sixsmith, things changed. The 6'1" guard was lights out from the perimeter. Each long range shot he put up was longer than the previous one. He nailed 4 first half threes, and the pro-Cardozo crowd started to get behind his long range bombs, getting up off their feet each time he connected on one. If it wasn't for the play of Salnave and forward Armando Dunn, who was a nice presence inside, the Judges would've been in big trouble, Cardozo was up just 31-28 at the half, with Sixsmith causing a lot of trouble, but could his play continue into the 2nd half?
Sixsmith started on the bench in the 2nd half, and Cardozo took advantage, because without a perimeter threat, the Judges were able to lay back and challenge the Holy Trinity guards to shoot. Jimmy Golaszewski and Jack Sixsmith, Billy's brother, struggled though, and off misses, Cardozo pushed the tempo and got out in transition. Kristian Mondesir was big at getting to the basket off of passes up court from Salnave and Jaquan McKennon, who did a nice job of starting the offense, even though he struggled a bit offensively in this one.
It wasn't until 8 minutes into the 2nd half to see Sixsmith enter, and the Titans were down 50-38 at that point. He came in and automatically hit once again from deep. He wasn't just catching and shooting either, as he moved well without out the ball, getting in good spots to get the ball and score deep off the dribble. Brandon Thomson was another offensive weapon for Trinity as he was hot from the elbow on jumpers off of drive and kicks from Golaszewski. The Titans were able to get it to a one possession game, as close as 58-56 with 1:10 to go, but Salnave hit 4 of 4 FT's late to seal it as the Judges, while sloppy at times, were able to hold off a tough Holy Trinity team, 62-58.
Salnave led all scorers with 27 points, proving once again that he is one of the best sophomores in the city. Dunn added 12 as well for the Judges. Sixsmith finished with 6 threes to lead Holy Trinity with 18 points, with Thomson adding 13 as well in defeat. - See more at: http://nychoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1560742#sthash.jdf7rRcX.dpuf (http://nychoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1560742#sthash.jdf7rRcX.dpuf)

The final game of the 2nd Annual City Legendz Invitational featured a pair of PSAL programs. As the contest proved to be a back-and-forth affair between the two highly competitive teams, it was Cardozo’s sophomore standout, Ray Salnave, who stole the show. A 6-3 scoring-guard, Salnave displayed a sharp offensive skill-set while pacing the Judges to an early second-half lead over Thurgood Marshall and star junior forward, Dimencio Vaughn. As the Panthers of Thurgood Marshall attempted to claw their way out of a deficit, the play of Salnave and co. closed the book on a comeback attempt. Salnave’s game-high 26 points secured a 60-53 win for Cardozo. Vaughn and Jhedeyah Gibbs recorded 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Thurgood Marshall.

what a tough one.. feels like the SAT all over again. no definitive answer. they all do different things. with that said ray is the only *LEGIT* sophomore which i feel should count for something. you gotta let this one play out moose. 2 years from now its anyones ball game. green and ray are point guards while rawle is a bigger wing. but if i had to go with one id go with ray. he has SUPREME confidence and competes on every play while i feel the other 2 slack. but the other 2 are also probably better students than ray too. gotta let this play out.

And if he leaves Dozo will he leave NY area entirely? Go NEPSAC where he's still close enough?

that is true. He'd be a likely recruit to be on early judging from the write ups. He would be one of the best city players in a while (top 10 recruit level)

I'm in on Salnave.
-
I think he's very good. Best days are ahead of him.
Strong body, can create his own shot, and quick trigger. I haven't seen him a lot but first time I saw him I immediately said who's that?!?!?!
-
Would be nice to see us start getting out on some of these kids early. When was the last time we got a kid to commit before his senior year that actually signed with us?

So 16% of the top 10% commit early?
I bet 50% of them de-commit. Also we're talking about a 2016 recruit not a 2015.

I'm not really talking about Salnave (or 2016 class) but in general. Our staff has been money on late signees so far but I fear that eventually it will bite us in the ass. I have no idea how they recruit sophomores and juniors but it would be nice to put in the groundwork early especially with the locals.

told you guys from day 1. kid is a player. been watching him since 7/8th grade. grades may be an issue, but im sure theres ways around that. crafty, tough and confident as heck! all my circles complain about how little interest lavin shows in embracing nyc guys. my argument is we need more blue chippers in the city and then he'll chase them. well '15 and '16 is a good place to start for lav. loads of talent.

""I was wearing the same shoes that I had on when I made the free throws to win the PSAL City Championship at the Barclays Center, so I felt like I had another big shot with these shoes today."
Those were Salnave's words after the game. With 1.5 left he got the inbounds, and from 3/4's court, he put it up, and it was nothing but net, and another celebration was on, with JYO pulling off the big time 69-66 victory.
Salnave led JYO with 26 points in the win, with Nelson adding in 14.
For the Ben Gordon All-Stars, who all seemed pretty shocked as to what happened, Martin led all scorers with 29 points, while Alexander chipped in with 13 of his own in the loss."

That didn't come as a huge shock to Salnave who said that the Blue Demons were one of three teams he noticed at each of his games.

Article says he never made it to Fordham because he couldn’t get a ride and so that is why he ended up at SJU.
Also said he talked to Coach Lavin and Coach Chiles, Chiles apologized for not making it to the open gym at Cardoza a few weeks ago.
Said SJU is trying to finish up the ’15 class and when they do they will pick up the recruitment of Salnave.
He said that SJU will definitely be one of his finalists assuming they continue to recruit him.

LOL Baldi.
My understanding of NYC hoops was that Tiny would hurt the Hall as much as helps them in getting players (obviously this year aside), if not more. I'm sure that the early season success Seton Hall is having helps with NYC recruiting, but not many notice when they are doing well (why a lot of Seton Hall fans hate St. John's IMO, because we always seem to get more hype, whether deserved or not).

I graduated from it, please fix.

We scrimmaged against Cardozo in high school. As we were walking into the gym, some of the players were playingdice. Rafer Alston holding court. Maybe Nacleirio sends some our way
-
@CoachRNaclerio: U. of Rhode Island very high on Cardozo's Rashond Salnave (2016)
-
@F150Bflinn: Commits in the NYC area are far from over this week. 2016 Cardozo (NY) G Ray Salnave will announce on Thursday evening.
-
Monmouth, done deal. Might end up being gigantic steal if he can get his act together, tremendous player even bigger heart
-
Interesting. I know that SJU and Seton Hall were interested at one point, but that appears to have dwindled. And saw the tweet from Naclerio re: URI. Were Iona and Manhattan on this kid?
-
This is puzzling. Wasn't he once one of the best players in the city?
-
For their standards, Monmouth had it's breakthrough last year, a winning season under King Rice! But in all seriousness they have been recruiting much better of late and are trying to be a MAAC team on the rise ala Quinnipiac.

But if you're one of the best players in the city, surely you could do better than the MAAC? I agree, Monmouth has improved, but I would expect a program like Monmouth to get the kind of recruit who is overlooked like Scott Machado and AJ English. We've been following Salnave for years.
-
Trust me I'm just as puzzled, from what I've read here and elsewhere he was a heavy Rutgers lean.
-
He'd be a great get for Monmouth talent wise but kid is not the easiest to deal with.

Rutgers stopped recruiting him once they took a pledge from Kwe Parker.
-
Crazy reading through this thread and then hearing he's going to end up at Monmouth.
-
Iona offered him in June but then backed off. Maybe their signing of EJ Crawford was the reason.

Iona is not recruiting Cardozo G Ray Salnave, source tells @snytv. He will announce college choice Thursday w/ Monmouth the favorite.
Manhattan offered him as well but did not seem to be recruiting him very hard. According to Verbal Commits he was offered by Manhattan in Jan 2014. Maybe he was a Rasheen Davis target and the recruiting relationship fell apart after Davis left?

Still has to qualify...

If that wasn't such an issue he'd already be committed to Seton Hall

King Rice is doing a great job there, has some nice players. Good upcoming coach

Monmouth as predicted

Don't see this guy on Monmouths roster

There were academic and other issues, right?

Believe so. He might be better off red shirting even if he is eligible, Monmouth has 4 or 5 good guards

What kind of freshman year is he expected to have? Looks like Monmouth will be the best team in the MAAC.

Should red shirt him IMO.
