How many scholarships do we have left to offer?

Wouldn't the priority walk-ons like Henderson, Stewart & Olisa Nwachie want a scholarship to stay. Why pay to be a walk-on for a seccond year when you could probably play somewhere else. Were they promised Scholarships by Lavin?

What's the benefit of not announcing you plan to transfer yet?

Would be a silly decision if he's declaring for the NBA but best of luck to him.

Damn shame if Jordan doesn't give this staff a chance, but playing for CM and his coaching staff is a privilege. If he doesn't see that, then it's probably best he does not come back.
BTW, found this clip of a Warriors/Bulls game from the early 90's. Watching Mullin in this video go toe to toe with Jordan was just awesome to watch and great to reminisce over. Hope these recruits who see Coach Mullin walk through their front door know who they are dealing with.

If he is not 100% committed which has been a huge question mark two years then I don't want him back. He has the tools to be an excellent player but drama surrounds him and I won't be that upset if he moves on. Good player for sure but a culture change is happening here and he has to be all in or not in at all. Would be surprised to see him back next season.
-
That's my view. I'd love if a motivated Sheed came back as a junior, because I think he could be really good, would help the team, but would also benefit from the additional time/the staff to improve his NBA hopes. But if he isn't "all in" than good luck to the kid and I wish him well.

Get rich by being able to play a complete basketball game and get drafted with a good contract.

i would surmise we can tell what Jordan is going to do ( or what CM thinks) by how agressively we go after point guards. At this point we need a lead to start , i would assume one of the freshman could backup. Thats the biggest worry and hole we can see now unless jordan comes back but truthfully he's more of a combo anyway.

We've been pursuing plenty, so im assuming they're not confident about him coming back. Transfer with immediate eligibility would be great.

my mistake if this is the wrong thread to put this in but from what i am reading these are the possible recruits that we are still in contact with for this season.
1. Cheick Diallo 6'9 PF - Top 10 Ranking
2. Brandon Sampson 6'4 SG -Top 40 Ranking
3. Federico Mussini 6'0 PG Italy
4. Georgios Papagiannis 7'1 Greece
5. Ricky Tarrant 6'2 PG- Transfer from Alabama 13.1 PPG (Can Play next Season)
6. Anthony Collins 6'1 PG- Transfer from USF 7.1 PPG (Can Play next Season)
7. Nigel William Gross 6'3 PG- Transfer from Washington 15.6 PPG (Needs to Sit-Out)
8. Manu Lecomte 5'11 PG -Transfer from Miami 7.9 PPG (Needs to Sit-Out)
I am sure i am missing some names just wanted to see if anything will pan out with some of these guys or if i am missing some names that we are currently recruiting as well.
If we can land 3 out of those next year is going to be fun.

With S.B.T. on the roster, there is no space for three. Pick two.

I would want Tarrant and Sampson off this list. It's what we really need (we already have bigs with Sima, Obekpa, and Williams). But if someone else leaves, and Diallo commits to us along with the other two, look out. We'd be a tournament team. After all, he is looking to play with a good point guard. Tarrant would be a key signing.
-
Think Baldi mentioned that S.B.T might be moving on? (Dont Quote me on that)
I remember watching Anthony Collins in the tourney couple years back..is the pass first point guard we could also use..be able to move jordan to the 2 spot. I agree Diallo/Sampson and one of those transfers and watch out.
Is there anyone else missing from the above list that we are currently involved with.

I would die for this roster:
Obekpa Sima Owens
Diallo Papa G Amar Jones
Williams
Sampson Doughty Felix
Jordan Mussini
Hard to get Collins or Tarant unless they are guaranteed starters
Things could change if you don't land Sampson
I love Wiliams Goss but hard to get unless you don't get Mussini
Likely will still have 3-4 ships next year too
ADR and JDR must be moving on

I like your roster. Just don't see Jones here and Papa G seems like a bit of a reach right now.
I'd like to add a 5th year transfer for some pretty certain scoring pop.

Getting one would be huge
I just can't see Jones transferring because of his redsirt
-
I just can't see Jones transferring because of his redsirt
That means one extra year he will be able to go to college for free. If he plays his cards right, he could end his college career with a graduate degree. Playing basketball doesn't appear to be high on his list, I could see him still transferring, unless he is enjoying SJU/NY.
-

He could go to an NAIA school and play right away with 2 years eligibility--Believe that is what Malik Stith did

This is true as well if playing time was a top priority for him. He has his options.

He was a backup player
He should have never been counted on for more than that
-
Stith was a quitter. When he quit the team, we had mad minutes available. That was Lavin's first year when we had Gift, Mo, D'Lo, PGIV, Sir Dom and I think one other. Jakar and Pelle didn't qualify, Nurideen quit after missing the free throws against Texas A&M, the coach's daughter was screaming as NL was on the free throw line and missed both.
-
Roster as it stands now
1 Obekpa
2 Sima
3 Owens (sit out 2015-2016
4 Williams
5 Albogevic
6 Balamou
7 Doughty
8 Jordan
9 Jones ???
10 ADR ???
11 JDR ????
Could have as many as 5 more ships (likely 4)
Need a backcourt desperately
-
We need another primary scoring option and a pure PG to spell Sheed next season. I still love Mussini for the long term, but he probably cannot be counted on for 10 ppg. Immediately eligible grad transfer seems like the only viable option.
-
Hey, if they hire Richmond and Terrence, we will have more guards on staff than on the roster. :)
-
Seeing how Sampson is looking LSU bound (Miraculously I hope he changes his mind in a few minutes) a graduate transfer in the backcourt sounds ideal. Give us room for scholarships next season.
However, I would look at Lovett as a priority now.

Haha! We literally wouldn't have a big east quality guard on the roster
-
Has any team tried playing four forwards/centers before? Instead of the 3-4 guard lineup.
I'm just joking around.
-
If we have 5 more ships I have no problem giving 3 to fifth year seniors. Its a one year commitment then they are gone
Hopefully we get a visit from Nwamu
-
Don't panic guys, easier to find adequate guards than adequate big men. Expecting ADR to have a solid year....two 7 footers and CO, may get some rebounds
-
The staff will sign at least two quality guards this class--one of those will have to be a pure PG. Jordan and Balamou are not a terrible start with a very solid front court already in place. Plenty of routes to take and two very creative recruiters in Slice and Matt A.
Lee is still my top target although that looks more unlikely every day. I felt extremely confident Sampson was going to end up here...stings.
-

You must've forgot or didn't know that Lee announced his top 5, and we weren't in it. I still feel the staff will salvage this class with two more decent, if not solid, recruits.

Dave - any thoughts on next steps?

@AdamZagoria: Freshman 7-Footer Adonis De La Rosa to Transfer from St. John's (UPDATED) http://t.co/lqnVDD619K @joshua_newman
This was a good move for us as well as he kid. He doesn't fit into the type of team we are building and it seems he's averse to getting in the shape needed to compete in this setup. Good luck to him.

Your lips to God's ears...

-
Roster is really turning upside down. Makes a lot of room for new blood.
Stating the obvious, but this staff has a plan. They may hit some bumps in the road, but we're on our way to being a consistently solid program
-
Agreed. Wings who have some size and can shoot. Guards who can handle the ball and score. Bigs who are long and athletic with upside. Felix doesn't fit into any of those molds but query whether this staff can get more out of him with his ridiculous athleticism. Not sure what Jones is going to do, as he fits into any of those either, though because of the reasons previously stated I think he will be here.
-
So much for keeping the best city kids in the city. I kid, I kid :)
Sad to see Adonis go. He seems like a good kid and I think he could be a good player if he keeps his weight down....very skilled. He doesn't seem to fit what is being built here and Alibegovic, Owens, Sima, and Williams are a pretty talented group going forward. I can't imagine Jones sticks around for much longer, as he also doesn't seem to fit into the plan.
-

I can see that. They're making tons of moves right off the bat. Recruiting different style of players totally and guys that don't fit well like Adonis are transferring. Both forwards we just grabbed can shoot well, and we grabbed a big and pretty well rounded center. I like the type of guys they are going after so far and balancing out roster from day 1. The bumps in the road are mainly that this roster is almost bare except for 3-4 guys, and they got a very late recruiting start. I have very little concern about our trajectory at this point thoigh.
-
I can't imagine Jones sticks around for much longer, as he also doesn't seem to fit into the plan.
Just can't imagine a player comfortable with having to Redshirt a season...again.
-

I feel like there's some untapped potential in Balamou that we haven't seen. Unfortunately, this is his Senior season. He should be able to provide plenty on the defensive end.
-

He won't if he goes D-2. He could even bust his butt to graduate and finish at the D-1 of his choosing as a grad transfer after a year at say a CW Post.
Darrien Williams and Amar Alibegovic take him out of the equation entirely and there will certainly be additions.
-
He's also one of Cheick's best friends.

I think Felix will ultimately get that year back. Nearly every team can use a player like Felix, and I think this staff is better suited to tap into his potential. I wouldn't be shocked to see him really step up after being behind Dom his whole career.

How often do you see that with a player who plays in a high level conference, even though he didn't get much burn? It would most likely be a low D1 school if anything. But I do agree in regards to him being out of the equation.

Agree. He should stay. He can play here just needs to add some offense.

I like Felix but on the court he has regressed since he was a freshman. I think the scarcity of playing time did that to him. The redshirt idea was a fiasco. I hope he gets the year back. I hope he can play solid minutes and will be useful as a senior.

This staff would keep him at all costs. Great teammate, busts his butt, d's up, not a problem in the locker room or classroom. It would be entirely up to Felix if he were to transfer. I'd be this staff looks at him as a gift.
You can't judge a guard/sf that got minutes that sporadically. He had a complete lack of confidence thanks to Lavin jerking him around. It's easier for bigs and PGs...but very tough for 2's and 3's to not have a role.

I feel like there's some untapped potential in Balamou that we haven't seen. Unfortunately, this is his Senior season. He should be able to provide plenty on the defensive end.
I think Felix will ultimately get that year back. Nearly every team can use a player like Felix, and I think this staff is better suited to tap into his potential. I wouldn't be shocked to see him really step up after being behind Dom his whole career.
He hasn't got it back yet. What makes you think all of a sudden they will change their mind.

I don't think he gets it back. He can thank Lavin (and Sheed) for losing that year.

if you play 1 game, the year counts. Just like Hooper, when he played 1 game at Harvard and that counted as a year. Unless there is a medical reason, which I don't think there is.

He had to know that coming to St. John's may be to much for his skill level and he would be treated accordingly.

Left the country due to moms illness. Wasnt able to play end of season because of injured ankle .

Just a feeling. He is a kid a long, long way from home who had to miss a lot of time to see his sick mother and deal with an injury. The fact that he's not a star also helps IMO. I can't see the NCAA screwing him for playing 4 games.

They have already said no to appeals.
Just don't see it.
Hope you are right.

Will be hard to replace JDR's 0.5 pts and 0.9 rebs per game. Do you know how hard it is to have those averages? I kid because I love. :)

@AdamZagoria: Freshman 7-Footer Adonis De La Rosa to Transfer from St. John's (UPDATED) http://t.co/lqnVDD619K @joshua_newman
He should go to Manhattan College
Not a good fit as Mass' teams run.
He had outstanding potential...more than anyone who's coming to replace him not named Diallo. It's a shame.

I think only Newsman would argue withn you on that. He had limited potential based on some fair offensive skills, but Sima is taller and much more athletic with not so dissimilar skills. It's not just the weight with Adonis. He also ran the court like Curtis Johnson, and im not sure that would have improved several fold even with significant weight loss.
-
Adonis...first team all city...two state championships...finally a NYC players comes here. I only saw him play in the STAC game...15 minutes, ten points, five rebounds, a steal. He was extremely quick...and not just quick for a 300 something pounder. He was FAR BETTER than Curtis Johnson who had weight and foot problems.
I can't say I saw Owens or Sima play...but Adonis was a keeper. I'm disappointed.
-
Adonis is from CK. Not going to help with Arbitello's guy Alkins.

Because Arbitello hates Lavin and ADR still came here against those wishes or desires.

And because we r not that likely to get him anyway,

Better late then never on his recruitment- if you had any idea of his recruitment and his family preferences you wouldn't have made that statement.

I am just going by what the kid has said/done himself. My guess is he is a big tease....we'll see. Not really sure how good he'll be anyway. I think there are at least a few others like him. Does he have eligibility issues?

No issue with the PG slot going to a freshman. My guess is the add'l scorer/shooter/wing will be a 1-year transfer or JUCO, for purposes of roster balance and so we have plenty of ships open for next year.

I don't have an issue with PG going to a frosh to let Jordan rest and get 10-15 mpg off the ball. We won't be asking him to play 25+ mpg year one.
I think Ellison pops for us next week, and I hope Diallo will as well. For next season to be a big success on the court, I think a guy like Durand Johnson (yes, I'm moving on from Damion Lee finally) is needed even more than Diallo. An experienced 6'6 shooter that is a natural SF and can carry some of the scoring load. We don't have the prototypical SF that Mullin is seeking yet. Williams will be great, but I see him as more of a face-up four with range that can play SF for small stretches.
Bring Ellison along slowly. He'll be a fantastic four-year player, but you just can't rely on freshmen. Obviously Diallo would be an amazing addition, but I feel pretty good between Williams and Alibegovic (and Jones in a pinch).

Diallo, Ellison and Mussini and we are ready to roll and be quite competitive.

Dream scenario right now: Diallo, Ellison (maybe with or without Doughty), and either Mussini or Lovett. If we miss on Diallo, I'd imagine a Papagiannis visit will pop up shortly thereafter.

Roster is really turning upside down. Makes a lot of room for new blood.
Stating the obvious, but this staff has a plan. They may hit some bumps in the road, but we're on our way to being a consistently solid program
Most importantly they are trying to balance classes. i know it's different now but Looie always recruited in 2 yr cycles never leaving himself shorthanded when seniors graduated.

Anyone know exactly what is going on with Doughty? ACT, grades, and if he qualifies is he still coming?

Spelling police. I know the spelling of moot point, but I couldn't get that one back. How do you get your post back and how long do you have? I'm actually a stickler for spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Walkons don't have to sit out a year do they? Just curious. It's really not a "transfer" I don't think.

So Doughty is definitely coming, but he might not be eligible? Pretty sure he would need another NLI if he doesn't qualify. Or is it that if he is a partial qualifier, he can come here and just not play? Does anyone know exactly how this works, and how it applies to Doughty?
-

Amar was a Freshman who showed improvement in a system (culture) different than where he came. I believe part of a Coach's role is to develop players. That being said, I certainly am realistic enough to recognize the need for a new staff (as well as players) to make changes that better fit their strategy and style. Such is life! BTW, he does have size and appears willing to learn and make adjustments.
-
I thought Amar showed improvement over the course of the season. I think he could be solid four yr player for us. The problem with the last two regimes is no one had specified role when it came running a set offense. If Amar can come off bench rebound and shoot the three then that sounds good. Also he was only guy show up to play down in DC.
-

And now that we have a new coach, let's pay close attention to what our returning players are doing over the summer. Amar has some skills. Decent rebounder, his shot from 3 didn't go in very often, but maybe with an adjustment or two, he can improve.
I don't think it's ever right for us to chase a kid out who is trying. If he's not going to get minutes, it's fair to tell the kid that Iona is exit 16 off the hutch north. But, Amar hustles, and he did have a several moments, and when I say moments, I mean he scored 6 points and had 5 rebounds. I think maybe he did that twice.
He's a legit 6'11, and a kid that hopefully will learn a lot from Mullin.
-
Is it me or are you guys just delusional? Some of you have to be more realistic I feel. Did you watch the same games that I did? The big east game was way to fast for amar....he is extremely slow....as other guys such as pointer would make passes to him cutting to the hoop and it would just go out of bounds. He is also a terrible defender who would pick up 4 fouls in 6 minutes of action. I understand everyone wants to be positive but come on. He is a low level division 1 player at best.
-

I am hoping Amar could be a good bench role player for the final 3 years here. I noticed the more he played throughout the year the more physical and scrappy he was. The kid's foot speed needs to improve greatly on defense. Typical Euro struggle there. Amar is not 6'11, he's a true 6'9 though.
-

Delusional? I must've missed a day of meds....There is an adjustment period for most freshman, especially those not used to the US style of play. Amar showed in a few small spurts that he has the potential to be an effective player. No one here is claiming he is going to be All-Big East this year (or even as a senior). Obviously he needs to improve many parts of his game, but many of us are able to see the potential. That does not make us delusional. Assuming a freshman year can unequivocally dictate the remainder of one's career is asinine, I feel.

Too judge that a kid cannot play at like level after he played like 5 minutes a game his freshman year is ridiculous. Do I think there is a chance that AA never is valuable contributor to this team? Yea I could see that because he seems to have holes in his game. You also can't teach size and for a big guy he has a decent touch from outside. Granted he is a little slow and fouls way too much but that doesn't mean he can't improve in those categories. I think it's this one and done thing that makes people have these expectations for kids as freshman. Most kids don't show up to college as freshman as finished products. Give him time to work on his game and by next year or the year after you never know you could have a nice bench piece who can grab some boards and hit a few 3s
-
By watching the Duke St. John's game, did you think grayson allen would ever be good enough to lead an offensive comeback in a national championship game...let alone as a frosh?
Did you think based on watchin Dom pointer last year he'd be on an all big east team this year...let alone possibly deserving of player of the year?
More experience, more practice, more minutes, more confidence and amar could look very very different.
-
I don't know why some are hating on Amar. He will be a serviceable rotation guy the next three years. Needs to work on defense and his footwork but he will get better shooting the 3 and on the boards. Solid kid too. Every team needs guys like him.
-
I think amar could be a useful bench player by junior year. I also don't think he is too slow at his size, I think his lack of quickness was more an issue of being tentative because he didn't know where to be.
-
After this summer's AAU circuit, I believe keeping Amar on the roster will have the side benefit of helping with cousin Denis' recruitment.
Denis is going to light it up this summer with a very good Mac Irvin Fire (Squad - lol) team.
I'm giving the book it mush call...
-
Yes, Amar was a step slow last year compared to Seniors (who had played together for 3 years already). If he puts in the work he could give us some good minutes. And when you add in that he has a cousin that looks like a nice player, I don't see why you would even think about getting rid of him.

Tough crowd
-
Amar has a lot of work to do. Positives..He was a good screener and appears to have a good stroke. He was an okay rebounder. Negatives...not a good defender...can't finish near the rim...had trouble catching passes near the rim. Ceiling is possible solid role player 2nd big guy off the bench. Hopefully he can beat my expectations.
-
Just remembered - Denis is playing on the Bosnian U18 National team this summer. That probably will be a bit better for him than playing AAU circuit, just less in the bball public eye.
-
only other person I'd like to leave is Amar...he was useless. I know a lot of you like him here...but he was crap.
This is straightup bullsh*t. Talented or not, how could you want a kid that busted his ass to leave? The Ukranian kid from Kansas has similar stats and he is projected as the #15 pick. It's a tough transition from Europe to high-major US college ball for anyone. Bigs take longer...look at Kaminsky's stats first two seasons...same as a frosh as Amar.
I can't wait for this kid to blowup second half next season under some real coaching and you'll see what floor-spacing does for a 6'9 240 Linder that can handle, passs, and shoot like Amar.

There is no denying Amar looked bad last year. A step slow, clueless on defense, was touted as a good shooter but seemingly never hit an outside shot etc. I know he was a freshman but I didn't see much I liked about him. With that being said his coach was Steve Lavin so I'm willing to give him a pass and see what he can do and if he can develop under coach Mullin.
-
I agree that maybe under mullin he could become useful. I get that he was a freshman and all but usually you see some talent or positives that could be built upon. I saw none. What did he do well? Foul? If he caught the ball within 5 feet of the hope he couldn't even get a shot off without being blocked, that's embarrassing. There are tons of other "projects" I'd rather have over him. I'm not saying get rid of him, but if you are depending on him to mean something to this roster then it is a problem

He can definitely rebound. The stroke looked good despite being 1-9 from 3 or whatever it was. He seemed to give max effort (which, sadly, isn't guaranteed from all players).
He looked a step behind defensively, though I think that's more a matter of youth and unfamiliarity rather than speed. Also doesn't know how to correctly challenge a shot underneath the basket. Overall he was overwhelmed defensively, but that can change through repetition and coaching.
While I don't expect him to be a star, I except him to be an effective part of the 7/8 man rotation by his Junior or Senior year.

I think there is good chance he'll be first big off the bench this year.

If we get Diallo, I think Amar should redshirt

In my opinion only Freshman should redshirt unless it's an injury situation.
He may still be the first big off bench right now

I'm not a big fan of the redshirt. It is a wasted scholarship. Unless you are projecting that a kid is gonna be something special in his fifth year, what does it accomplish? And if a kid has something special, why does it take until year 5 to show up?
Obviously, a medical redshirt is a different story.

He has a cousin
-
Only reason players should redshirt if it helps the team. We needed gift to play. Redshirt hurt us that year. We can find another amar. No reason to play short this year.
-
I do agree he was max effort, and could rebound a bit. But I don't know why everyone is saying he's such a great shooter. Where? In practice? He was awful from the arc and a terrible free throw shooter. But I do hope with each year under his belt he can grow under mullin and be serviceable

The form he showed on his jump shot looked like that of a shooter. Basically, if he and Pointer were shooting a three and you could not see whether or not the ball was going in, you would assume Amar's would go in more than Pointer's. Now you're right in that he had poor results, but I think that was more due to nerves and a small sample size. Who knows though, maybe they'll never fall. As you said, we can hope, though.

There is no comparison between Amar and Sanchez skill wise, but Sanchez for all the hype came with baggage that no one was prepared for. I'm not even talking about the eligibility situation. He was fantastic against Fordham, but against the good teams, he wasn't quick enough to play his game. The sad thing is that he probably once was. Amar has upside, but he's incredibly raw. He needs extensive practice.
-
Sanchez was also like 13 years older than Amar

Good question. They are two very different players to me. Sanchez, had tons of skill but he didn't embrace this role as a big man and he didn't have an edge to him. Amar is not as skilled as Sanchez, but he's a warrior and very competitive. He does not disregard his big man duties at all.
Sanchez got owned by everyone physically...it was like he was wearing ice skates. He got backed down routinely and had to go for the last second block. He was a finesse player.
Nobody moves Amar an inch. When Amar blocks a guy out...that's it for them. They aren't getting that rebound. When a guy is that fiery and competitive, there is no telling how good they can be in spite of their lack of quickness or athleticism. He has a nasty edge to him that I really like. He takes it personal.

Mind=Blown.
Amar plays like I post...intense, with an edge, fouls/warning are issued, and sometimes dudes get hurt unintentionally.

Amarillac made me spit up my drink baldi lol. I actually like amar. I think he's going to be very serviceable and a good 4 year player. Alot of people forget how bad some players looked in year 1 of their careers. I thought he was ok this season. He'll be fine.

Me too. He needs to improve his quickness, and his defense is in need of a complete makeover. The first time I ever saw him, he was getting schooled by Rysheed Jordan playing matador defense (granted that is a very tough switch for a 6'9 240 big) on the Euro trip. It was pretty ugly.
What gives me hope is how quickly he fills the lane when someone drives. It shows he has the instincts, whereas a guy like Jones would take a full second longer to react. He needs to learn to calm down a little out there. He does everything in excess...over-hedges, strays too far on help, leaves his man too much to close the lane, etc. All fixable in time. Maybe not all next season, but in time. He has great value as a guy that can play the four and five. He might have to start off as the backup center until Sima is ready.

but Sanchez for all the hype came with baggage that no one was prepared for.
Like when his wife had the baby and he wouldn't leave to play a basketball game in Philly we desperately needed him for? That was tough to take in a season in which we missed the Ncaa's by one win.

Too bad I look at losses at CA to Prov and at DePaul oh and Obekpa refusing to enter a BE tournament game before even thinking of beating Nova on the road.

Hasn't really shown anything that makes me believe he wants to stay. I think it was a smart decision on his part to redshirt when he did but he didn't seem to show anything physically or mentally from sitting out.
Meanwhile other guys on the team all looked improved Dom, Obekpa, Harrison, Jamal, Phil, etc.

His only other options are to lose a year of eligibility, transfer to a D2 or D3, or go NAIA
If he stays and graduates then transfers for his last year then I can live with it

Land the four of 'em, and we can start talking about putting a "more than average" team on the floor for the '15-'16 season.
Somebody would have to go
3 ships left.
And I still don't see how Christian sticks around.
If they are serious about landing the above-mentioned (one has already committed with another one probably soon verballing), then there is no way Jones sticks around, IMO.
Should have never redshirted the kid and now it is unfair to make him leave
He has a valid reason to go home.
Mom is sick?
Don't want to discuss it publicly but he has legit reason.
I saw it on twitter i think. It is serious from what I heard.
-
No more hardship waivers.

No more hardship waivers.
No, but they'd give him sixth year.
-
Is Jay Henderson getting a scholarship?
-
Scholarships have to be earned. Does the kid even like basketball. He doesn't play like it.

You make a good point. Unfortunately, this is what can happen when a new staff comes in.
Didnt he miss most this past off season due to knee surgery? Seemed to really hinder his explosiveness. Kid has not had it easy and was not utilized well, but he didnt do himself any favors with the playing time he did get in BE play. I still like him and hope he stays. Maybe with a center in Chris and a forward in Darien who can both rebound and cover space, Jones will find a spot.

Is Jay Henderson getting a scholarship?
No, he is a lottery pick. :)

It would be nice to know how our "commits" stack up with LOIs.
Is the deadline for LOIs sometime around May 20th?

Now that Pandora's Box finally opened (big recruits not signing NLIs at all), the trend will continue until most top 25 recruits wind up not signing at all. It's a long time coming. I think it's good for the top recruits to have some protection. Diamond Stone just started next season's avalanche to be...
-
You'd have to think that there is a PG (and/or his people) that see St. John's as a PG away from being very nasty the next 3-4 years. The future is so bright here. There is just one glaring hole at point.
When I look at the rosters coming up the next few years--with the possible players we can add--it's just awesome. The one spot I keep having to leave blank is PG. Hopefully we get the answer soon.
-
There is a great feeling now, not just about the recruits we have landed in a short period of time, but the entire recruitment philosophy being espoused by Coach Mullin and his staff.
Coach Mullin seems to go for the blended approach in recruiting with players covering several years of play. This is a good step forward in redeveloping our basketball team into a St. John's Basketball Program. Something that has been missing for some time!
-
@AdamZagoria: St. John's commits Malik Ellison & Yankuba SIma have yet to sign but are expected to soon.

Jay Henderson is transferring
-
Any Eli Carter info lately? I'm a little behind. He would be a good get and has been linked.

Jay Henderson is transferring
I felt it was a matter of time, and didn't expect him or CJ to be back. I'll let all of you confirm, never want to speculate on transfers.
-
Jay Henderson is transferring
I saw his name on that ESPN list, but not sure this is true.

Ya I thought he was staying as well

What wall? There's 4 walls! (Honeymooners line). :)
-
If its true, its realistic. All new coaches and all new system v last year. He can see his position is being recruited heavily. He couldn't expect to see a lot of light this year, and will only get worse if Mustapha or Rawle come on board.
He would still have four years of eligibility left because he wasn't on scholarship last year.
-
I believe he still has to sit out. And will lose year of eligibility.

And what does that writing say?

His best bet is to go JUCO for a year then transfer so he doesn't lose playing time

Think we are about to get some news on the roster

Not necessarily

Amar? Not sure what this means;
@Amar7Alibegovic: Nothing can stop you from dreaming. Came a long way. Achieved everything I could. The new chapter is… https://t.co/qI481UsPp5

Agree. But I wonder if this means Papa G is coming
-
Obekpa responded by saying "stay hungry bro". That, coupled with "new chapter" and one can speculate.
-
Maybe the kid just got dumped. "Stay hungry bro"

These kids are constantly posting about their girlfriends. They sound like girls when they do it. In this case, Amar sounds delusional: "Achieved everything I could"
Maybe he's confusing "everything" with "even got in some games".

Give me a break with this crap. He helped a division 1 college basketball team make the tournament. That is a greater athletic achievement than most likely anyone on this board has accomplished.

Highly doubt it-I hit a home run in little league!

I'm guessing they're writing a cookbook.
-
Hope you are right. I believe that Chris can help his game, especially with leg conditioning resulting in an improved shooting percentage. It's up to him to take advantage, make the sacrifices and do the work. Easier said than done.
-
Amar is not leaving
Good. Would be a nice choice for team captain
-
Maybe he made his national team or something?
The picture was him in a white and blue jersey. Not SJU.

Bosnian U20 team it appears.

Someone on RM saying Obekpas leaving. Anyone else hearing this?
-
Doesn't matter who is coaching or in charge here, it is always a total and complete mess.
-
From Zach:
Source on Chris Obekpa rumors: He's still in program, in midst of internship at moment. Could that change? Possibly. #sjubb
The St. John's program is different now. Real accountability and demands. Tough adjustment for some. #sjubb
For Chris Obekpa to be gone, there would have to meeting or decision between both sides. That hasn't happened. But there are issues. #sjubb

This has nothing to do with Mullin. This is Lavins drama, he let the kids do whatever they want. There will always be so drama in college hoops but Mullin isn't going to put up with the nonsense from these kids.
-
Yup, it appears country club days are thankfully over. Mully's way or the highway, just like his mentor Lou C. :police:
