"Payton Dastrup (Mesa Mountain View (AZ)/California Supreme (CA), 2014): Dastrup’s size and mobility caused mis-match problems for defenders over during Peach Jam. At 6-10 215 lbs., the rising senior was active on the glass on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end, Dastrup was effective in the low-post, patiently scanning the defense before initiating his next move, whether it be a move to the rim or a pass to a teammate for an easy score."

Do players who go on missions also count towards scholarship count while they are away?

Read this on football, not sure basketball is same.

"What you will see, said a BYU athletic official, is the school release a list of 25 signees Wednesday, but there will be a few recruits left off that official list. One might label those committed but unsigned because while they are pledged to join BYU after missions, there is no NCAA status tag to give them in a recruit class."

They really shouldn't count against the scholarship total. They aren't there taking classes or using facilities.

Agree.  But how are they bound to the acceptance?  Don't want a kid to commit, serve his time and then decide oh I want to go here instead.

They don't.  And if they would ever count then they most certainly would count at a Mormon school that actually sponsors and even requires certain students go on Missions.  And it is clear they don't count as on scholarship kids even when they go to a school like BYU.

Very good point. I can't recall a big-time Mormon player ever doing that, though.

If I were Dastrup, I wouldn't commit now. You never know what can change over the course of the next two years. I guess you run the risk of being forgotten, though.

http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/1310296.html

Mentions SJU offer as well as others.

Claims Florida, Arizona, Arizaona St and BYU are probably at the top.

Will take visits in the fall and wants to sign in the fall.

No mention of mission.
