Is Matt at Kansas now? If so he gets around.

Whatever it takes for his wife to be closer to her family.  That is key. Much respect.

St. John’s also had two coaches at the open gym, and Curbelo has visited the Queens school unofficially.

“Yeah, I’ve been talking to them, too,” he said. “I’m going to talk with Jay about everything single college because St. John’s is in New York, I’ve been playing here, so it could be a good thing.”

Curbelo has no visits planned at the moment, and isn’t sure when he’ll set them up or when he’ll decide.

“I can’t tell you that right now,” he said. “If I did, I’d be lying.”

Saw somewhere he talked about his Latino culture meaning a lot to him. Miami is the capital of Latin America.... going to be really, really tough to beat.

And based on Zag's article, his mom lives in Puerto Rico.  So geography could play a crucial role...

We need to get every influential Latino SJU grads to be in his ear...

Shamorie was rated higher, I believe, and wanted to stay.

Whitehead was very keen on staying home as well, but Lavin wouldn't get into bed with scum and risk potential violations as readily as the man in South Orange looking to make some $$$ instead of being canned.

Before those two I can't remember the next highly-rated guy.  Harkless I guess although he was actually underrated before college.

Mo Harkless originally was going to UCONN

Lavin made a splash by getting local kid to stay home

Think he was a fringe top 50

Right.  Whitehead was a McD AA, I believe.  I think Ponds was in the 30s range consensus, maybe low 40s.

Miami May be the capital of Latin America, but it is overwhelmingly Cuban and Colombian—which are much different culturally. You won’t find many Puerto Ricans in south Florida outside of transplanted New Yorkers. PRs in Florida mostly live around Orlando/Kissimmee.

Also, the Hurricanes have the worst following in high major sports. Some home games make St. John’s v. St. Francis @ CA look like the Final Four.
