10 Biggest Games This Decade
« on: December 26, 2019, 05:32:34 PM »
10 biggest games of the past 10 years:

1) UCONN 03/05/2010- Boothe dominated Kemba in the BET 1st round, Norm lived to see another couple weeks, lost a heartbreaker to Memphis in the NIT:

2) PITT 02/19/2011- Resume solidified with upset win over #4 Pitt at the Garden.

3) USF 03/05/2011- The blackout game USF, took us off the bubble, ran USF out of Queens.

4) CUSE BET 03/10/2011- The infamous DJ injury against Cuse that immediately lowered our seed in the NCAA.

5) @CINCY 01/05/2013- Breakthrough win for Lavin's first recruiting class. Statement win at Cincinnati. Harrison/Obekpa/Jakarr were all terrific:

6) @CUSE 12/06/2014: To me this is the most satisfying win of the past 10 years, snapped a 9-game skid against Syracuse, set the table for a NCAA season:

7) HALL 02/21/2015- Decimating Hall to solidify NCAA appearance. Oddly enough Mullin was honored at this game, a month a half later he'd succeed Lavin as HC:

#8 & #9 are the 2011/2015 NCAA games, this is based upon relevance. Obviously the Duke and #1 Nova 2018 wins would be ranked if they meant anything for NCAA seeding. My #10 is next Tuesday night. What are yours?

Lavin's first year was great. Duke and Pitt at the Garden. He put the ball in Hardy's hands, and Hardy was unconscious during that stretch to the NCAAs. Each of the games we beat Syracuse, that was great. Let's add NYE v Butler.

#8 & #9 are the 2011/2015 NCAA games, this is based upon relevance. Obviously the Duke and #1 Nova 2018 wins would be ranked if they meant anything for NCAA seeding. My #10 is next Tuesday night. What are yours?

We were way off the bubble before the USF win in 2011.  Yes, it was "only" our 20th win, but we were top 5 nationally in RPI and SOS, at the time.  The truth is, the Pitt win probably took us off the bubble that year.  If not that game, then the Nova win.

My favorite game of the decade, maybe the best SJU game I've ever been at, was the Duke game, from Lavin's first year.  We've never played the perfect half of basketball, but the first half of that game was about as close to perfect, as I've ever seen us play.  It's also what got the ball rolling WRT the second half of that season, and the run we made (we were 11-8 going into that game), so it had a great impact.

I'm hoping #10 is Villanova from last year.  That game rocked.  I know last year ended in disappointing fashion, but the home games against Marquette, Villanova, and Seton Hall, we 3 of the best games to be at, in recent years.
