Title: Butler Predictions...
Post by: Poison on January 27, 2018, 10:28:01 AM
Ponds and Yakwe sit out.

Butler takes this one 93-49

We go down by 50 in the second half and the frustration boils over into brawling and ejections. Inspired play by Alibegovic (scores 8 in garbage time) encourages some to think that he’ll break out vs Duke because of course it will.

Mullin calls attention to composure and leadership. Both of which he doesn’t provide St.John’s and hasn’t provided since 1985. Also, I expect him to (partly) blame this loss on our short roster - which clearly isn’t completely his fault at all.

If it plays out that way Poison don't forget Mullin's post game comment that two minutes into the first half it was still only a two possession game.

It could play out differently. If there’s one thing Mullin has shown us it’s his ability to coach us to a moral victory.

He stopped playing defense after getting hurt in the Providence game. He’s still hurt. At least he’s out there playing. Marvin Clark waves at the three point shooter. No wonder he left Michigan State. Izzo wouldn’t stand for that.

I recall people destroying Norm Roberts during his first season (or two), and he was dealt a worst hand than Mullin.  I'm seeing no different in Mullin than Roberts.  It's actually worse.

Mullin will get another season, but with each passing game....  It's seeming non-deserved.

This is what happens when you bring in a roster full of low IQ players

Maybe.  But it's more than just that.

Yeah he's definitely not staying on as HC due to a winning product. It's a really toxic combo of poor coaching by the whole staff and underachieving players on the court.

I was no fan of Norm by any stretch of the imagination but Mullin makes Norm look like John Wooden. Never thought I would say this but if I had to choose right now I'd prefer Norm and believe me when I say this but I would have thought I would rather stick two hot pokers in my eyes than say that.

We have all heard that Mullin’s return is likely, but if support for the program begins to dwindle they may rethink their decision. Keeping him has nothing to do with believing in him. He’s being paid and he’s a name. Their name. Pressure needs to be applied. Goff will regret opening this discussion up in social media. He’s going to learn how it works.

Anyone think Goffs job will be determined on what he does or doesn’t do with Mullin? I mean this guy obviously will have to make a hard decision. Does he let Mullin stay and program just completely get embarrassed or does he cave into alumni pressure and ultimately stay with Mullin and let the loses eventually cost him his job.

St.John’s alumni isn’t Georgetown alumni. If they still want him, they are clearly slow. The idea that they could reach the level of embarrassment if Mullin stays is the problem. The program should be embarrassed now. We are 0-10 now. It’s literally impossible to do worse.

Plenty but it doesn't matter because the key is next year he doesn't benefit from this year being so bad.
Here's my point, last year by winning 7 games he benefited from going 1-17 the year before.  Because to be fair his roster and opportunity to recruit was limited his 1st year.

But he can't expect to go 1-17 in his 3rd year and do the same thing say go 7-11 and claim that is an improvement.   He cannot benefit from this disaster,  one step forward next year ain't good enough and he knows it.

We have role players and freshman coming in next year. To expect 7 wins is ambitious. I know the University’s plan is to keep him. They need to hear it and they need to feel it before they’ll make a change, but again, if they fire Mullin and hire a different incompetent coach what is the point?

Not ridiculing u. In fact I get a kick out of most of your posts. But poison, who I think is a very passionate fan, seems to hate Mullin.

And sometimes it comes across as if some on the board would rather us continue to lose in hopes of getting Mullin out.

By the way, I spend the same for seasons tix since 1974 and am as pissed about current situation as anyone on either boards..

Good to know. No harm no foul though the ref will still call one on us because WE ARE ST. JOHN'S!

I personally hate it. However, I hope it gets worse. Winning a few games would be awful. Rock bottom has to happen. Any sliver of hope and we are stuck with Santa.

Even though that might help us sooner than later I can’t do it. I can’t sell my tickets to Duke fans either. Mullin has lost the team, so I wouldn’t worry about losing out. Only team we might beat is DePaul and that’s nowhere near the gimme we thought it would be.

This team stinks, no doubt but did any of you think we'd win games on the road in conference with no Lovett and Ponds shooting 0-12? If so, you guys think our other players are a lot better than I do.

It's not a gimme at all in fact I'm sure DePaul will be favored at home.

Hate is too strong a word. I dislike him. Absolutely. I dislike anyone who is as arrogant as Chris Mullin. He had no business even sugghesting that he could do this job with zero experience. Why anyone here believed he could is embarrassing.

In the post quotes on the red storm site Mullin said that in 7/10 BE games we were close. He also said that we have talent. And that our core 5/6 guys have improved. Ponds has regressed. Clark was decent a month ago. He’s awful now. Yakwe showed some signs of improvement, but his improvement is pretty hard to identify in conference play.

Mullin is looking for reasons for people to believe in him. I had enough of the vanity after Lavin, but at least weren’t winless when he was here.

St.John’s University isn’t smart enough to recognize what a terrible hire they made. Combine that with a rookie coach, a rookie staff and we have a full on disaster. That’s what I hate. I don’t hate Mullin.

Mullin is either arrogant or stupid or maybe both. A 9 game losing streak and he hasn't made one adjustment offensively or on the defense. Maybe he doesn't give a$hit and he's happy to take the money. This is the poorest coached team in the history of St Johns B B . It's over . You cold send Mullin out to recruit with a bag of $100 bills and He'll come home empty. If he really cares about the University he'll resign.

The lack of adjustments is how we know he’s not able to do this. His die hard fans might say he’s stubborn but that he deserves the same time other coaches were given. There’s nothing left to learn about Chris Mullin the coach.

We’re 0-10. What are we losing if we start over? We might as well start over with a head coach that’s been a head coach. Fran, Jarvis and Lavin all made the tournament. All were head coaches. In 13 years, Mahoney, Roberts and Mullin danced once - and we only danced in 93 because David Cain had a miracle season.

This team has no depth (Mullin’s fault) but these are upperclassmen that don’t know what they’re doing. LoVett may already be gone. Ponds might leave. Owens is free to go. This wait till next year we’ll be loaded talk could end up being a rebuilding year.

Is Owens on track to graduate this year? That seems to be the consensus but so we actually know that? I would be surprised to see Ponds go. It was said earlier that he has regressed and I'm not sure how to figure that. His 3pt percentage is down but everything else (2pt%, reb, assists, ft% and pts) are all up.

Not sure why everyone is so butt hurt about an away loss to Butler.

Ponds has been hurt all season ( wrist and knee ) and hes gutting it out. Drives today he had no finish and the wrist has affected his shot all season.

Maybe because it was blowout city from the opening tap (19-2) and puts us at 0-10 in BE. Just a thought. maybe it's just me.

Mullin doesn’t run plays for anyone. That’s an angry dad, and he’s got every right to be. We need more people to let Mullin know that he needs to step down.

Mullin was a gym rat. He had an incredible feel for the game as a player. You could say that he had a high basketball IQ, but that’s not the same as being intelligent in life. He doesn’t have the type of personality that can own a room the way Lou Carnesecca did, and for that matter, Lavin.

Not saying he’s stupid, or that he lacks intelligence but what decisions has he made that we’re aware of off the court that would make anyone think he’s particularly intelligent?

The more time he spends with Steph Curry and the Warriors, the more people think he’s the guy that assembled that team. He actually had nothing to do with it.
