He doesn't have to make a statement.  He did so on his own volition, much like Amir Garrett.  It's the sign of character and being a winner.  Lots of respect to the kid, and it is those types we need here.

This is an analysis of the Under Armour Tourney outside Chicago this weekend for Evan Daniels of scout.com:

Darrick Wood, SG – Wood is at his best when he gets the ball on the break or has an opportunity to make a play in transition. He’s a talented all around athlete that is blessed with an impressive leaping ability. Wood, a St. John’s commit, has been working on his jump shot and that was evident by him knocking a three-pointer and a pair of mid-range jump shots when we watched him.

Glenn Robinson had the highest vertical at camp. Darrick Wood checked in at No. 2

Wood and Garrett are playing Today in the championship game. As far as LOI's are concerned, Garrett doesn't need one if he's enrolling I a few weeks.  Wood is vehement about SJU so not sure it's a worry.

Wood has also had his academic challenges. Not to be pessimistic, but enrolling at better prep school may not equate to being elligible. Hopefully he is working hard to achieve that. Anyone have a sense of that?

From what I've heard, he's ok academically.  His issues are NIA prep related, but I don't think it's a problem.  Obviously, we'll have to wait and see but glad to see he's at Bridgton.

I don't.  Just thought if he had, we would've heard by now.  Not trying to be an alarmist, just trying to confirm some good news from our recruiting efforts.
