"The 6-foot-1 point guard from Centerreach, L.I., one of the area’s top freshmen, is just beginning to create his own path. He already has scored over 1,000 points on the high school level, as an eighth grader at North Babylon and this past year for St. Mary’s of Manhasset, and is a key piece for nationally ranked AAU program Team SCAN's 16-and-under team.
His father, Danny Green Sr., said Devonte already has landed scholarship offers from Cincinnati and Florida, while North Carolina (Danny’s alma mater), Georgetown, Syracuse and Connecticut, among others, have expressed interest.
Devonte started playing basketball at the age of 4, inspired by watching his older brother’s games at St. Mary’s. Green Sr. said Devonte isn’t the shooter Danny was at the same age — the older brother, after all, is one of the top 3-point shooters in the NBA — but is a better ball handler and defender.
“When I look at Devonte, the ceiling for him is unlimited,” Green Sr. said. “He could be the best out of all of them. He puts the ball on the floor so well, he gets to the rack. Devonte can just lock down, he stays in front of most point guards.
“The difference is he can get to wherever he wants to on the floor. Danny couldn’t do that. He can be a much more efficient scorer than Danny [was].”

Of all the players to come out of new york out of the last 5-10 years, when its all said and done I think this kid will be the best of them.

Have to think UNC has a huge advantage in this. I'd love to get him at STJ.

Devonte Green, 6’1”, point guard (St. Mary’s HS, NY)
Green was a prospect that really stood out. He is a high IQ point guard that is a solid passer who made sound decisions when running the show. Green also shot the heck out of it especially on day 3. The young guard was an aggressive defender that pressured the ball.

“@GiveNGobball: There is no stopping Devonte Green, Class of 2016 SG playing for Team Scan (NY), when his jump shot is on. #HGJamFest”

“@SteveKellerNRR: 6'2 Devonte Green scoring a ton of pts at flat out loaded Hoop Group Elite Future All-American camp/Cant imagine 2 many better guards in '16”
“@TheRecruitScoop: 2016 guard Devonte Green is catching fire at #FutureAllAmerican. He's doing a great job of attacking the rim, as is 2016 SG Unique McLean.”
-
Andrew Slater @ASlater247
Devonte Green'16 was a top player @ Basketball By the Beach. Offers from Florida & Cincy. Interest w/ UConn, UNC, Georgetown, and St. John's
-
seems like we almost never offer these kids early and when they are extremely highly rated I just don't get it. We are said to have interest, well I guess not as much as schools that offer early. Some kids probably give extra consideration to schools that thought enough of them to offer early.

Actually I think there are more examples of us offering early.

Played against st.marys featuring devonte and Jessie last night in some fall ball action and I'm going to go out on a limb and say devonte is the second best guard after whitehead regardless of class.

And he'll be better when it's all said and done.
-
Not a done deal yet but hearing devonte green to LUHI strong possibility.
-
He may stay at his school
-
@NYCHoops: PG Devonte Green transfers from St. Mary's. Mike Libert from http://t.co/SJoNwkryyP (http://t.co/SJoNwkryyP) breaks the story coming soon.
-
Kob- who would you compare him to then? Just throwing this name out there.. Dejuan Wagner
-
He didn't transfer yet.
-
Kob- who would you compare him to then? Just throwing this name out there.. Dejuan Wagner
Dejuan might be a top 10 highschool player of all time. Wouldn't go that far
-
Nah not Wagner
-
Will he be a better college player than his brother Danny?
-
He has the skill set but not the mental
-
I'm not trying to exaggerate but there is no reason that he shouldn't be top 25 in his class other than he isn't a killer 24/7. Every time u touch that court u kill. And I'm not talking about just scoring but locking up and making the correct plays. When he does that I haven't seen many better than him. But when he isn't into it it's uglier than nancy regan
-
His skill set is tremendous. So smooth.
-
But when he isn't into it it's uglier than nancy regan
Oh dear. Sounds like a little sour grapes to me.

St. Mary’s, a program destined to contend in the NSCHSAA in 2013-14, has seen their two of their top prospects transfer in the span of a week.
As previously reported, 6-10 2015 standout Jessie Govan transferred to Wings Academy in The Bronx. The junior will join New York Lightning AAU teammate Desure Buie on the hardwood this season, propelling the Wings to PSAL contenders for the next two seasons.
Now, junior shooting-guard Devonte Green has decided to leave the Gaels and will attend powerhouse Long Island Lutheran, as initially reported by Mike Libert of NYC Hoops.
Devonte, the younger brother of San Antonio Spurs sharpshooter, Danny, will join Team Scan AAU teammates Chris Atkinson and Marvin Prochet as the Crusaders seek to return to the NYS Federation championship this season after falling short of the title last season to Christ the King.

My co-worker/friends son goes to school with Devonte. He told me this week that all the guys on the basketball team said that he has already verballed to St. John's. Who knows if it's true and even if it is, what it means this early but has anyone else heard anything?

What is his relationship with SJU? Is their mutual interest? Thanks

I can guarantee that govan and devonte will not play college ball together
-
There is mutual interest but he is a long time away from choosing a college. His dad is a very strategic guy. He wouldn't make a choice that fast

"Green mentioned UConn, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia and Duke as interested schools at the moment with many more sure to come. Given that his brother Danny played at North Carolina, his first and only response when asked about a favorite was very surprising.
“Duke is up there right now,” he said with a laugh."

Devonte Green, a 6-4 combo guard from New York, is hearing from Seton Hall, Indiana, Creighton, Rutgers, Providence and East Carolina, his father told SNY.tv.
