Would be a great program building piece. Hopefully he can influence Kuminga because that kid is a beast.

NY RENS teammates

Looks to be a good one. Hopefully we can seal the deal.
-
Gotta keep winning and we'll get a few of these top 75 HS kids.
-
January verbal I sense
Wow that would be a huge get

Stay tuned :)

Great to hear.
Just curious...he's from the same area/school as Heron, any connection there?

Yes, actually lived with Heron family for a bit. Also a NY RENs connection like Kuminga

Heron's IG story just announced his commitment! WE ARE!

Wow the are really trending up.

Fox Sports 1 teasing some good news for SJU. Maybe he announces tonight?

Welcome to St. John’s!
-
Checked out some of his highlights. Kid looks like a stud lead guard. 6'5, big, strong, athletic. Great get!
-
Perhaps a January verbal I sense
Paultz is good. What else do you see in your crystal ball?
-
Looks like a tremendous get! Nothing like a power guard in my book. Kudos to staff for putting in the work.
-
This is great news. I think we're starting to finally turn the corner and are on the way to becoming a consistently good team year in and year out again. If we can consistently land top 100 freshman and talented transfers we'll have a recipe for success and longevity.
-
I also read that article on 247 about him committing, and I like how he says how Queens is home. Hopefully he turns out to be the next hometown hero a la Ponds. You know when he puts on that jersey he's going to represent.
-
I am so excited about this commitment. This really shows how far we have come as a program. Was really nervous when we were striking out on our 2018 and 2019 targets but wow. Getting Cam mack, Ian Steere, and now Nate Tabor for 2020. This really is starting to show that we are starting to build a program that can win year in year out with a combo of transfers and highly regarded freshman. I hope the play on the floor and these other commitments will help us get precious and kuminga.
-
wow big get
-
He's a good one. Great job by staff!
-
I'm very happy with the addition. This is the kind of 4 year player you build around.
I love the Rens connection too. You could feel that brewing for a year now.
Me thinks Ponds and Heron will have much bigger influences on the program than what they do on the court.
-
for the first time, in maybe 25 years, do I feel like this program is finally, FINALLY, heading in the right direction. There is a long-term strategy for recruiting; an identity for the style of play; an AD with solid credentials; a school president that believes in the power of basketball; and NO DRAMA!
we've always looked at Nova, Xavier, Gonzaga, as schools we should emulate. And it looks like we're heading down that path. Solid 3 & 4 star players. Bigs. Out of state recruits. Sprinkling in some decent NYC talent.
Future looks bright!

I believe Tabor is kin to Heron.
-
I don't think anyone is committing here until they have a clear vision for the coaching staff. Wayy too much uncertainty which will work against any school trying to land top kids.
-
I believe Tabor is kin to Heron.
As per the Zags article when he committed, "Tabor has lived with the father of St. John’s junior guard Mustapha Heron since he was in the seventh grade."
-
Unfortunately, it's not hard to connect the dots.
-
This is bad.

Shouldn't bragging wait until he actually gets a verbal or at least more than a single post from one poster saying he's heard Tabor is back in play? And I think re-recruiting a player is a different story entirely. Tabor was in fold for any St. John's coach that got along with Heron and his family. That should be obvious to everyone that understands Tabor's connection to Heron.
-
What did I miss
Nothing. Someone on redmen said he heard that Tabor was still an option. Tabor lives with Heron's parents and attends Heron's alma mater. It should surprise nobody that Anderson is the favorite to land Tabor if he does well by Heron and his family. I think Anderson is right up Heron's alley as a coach and Anderson has no choice to lean on Heron for leadership, minutes, and a primary role. At worst he's 1B to Figgy. Under the current circumstances it would be very odd to me if Heron didn't give a glowing review of Anderson to Tabor.
-
Awesome development, Iron Mike and staff have absolutely grinded this Summer. Their effort has been second to none and exactly what we needed in a coaching crew. The tough nosed city and Southern kids that we've offered is a nice snippet of what our identity will be in the years to come.

Exactly! Before we call CMA a recruiting failure or success we should give him a year maybe.

There is quite a difference between bragging about something that one hasn't achieved and expressing concern over a potential problem. The Arkansas guys said Anderson doesn't recruit especially well and he landed arguably the worst class St. John's has ever seen during the grad transfer era. That is problematic.
I think it's pretty clear that Anderson is not going to get any big fish here. That is a a sobering thought, but I'm okay with it if he can evaluate, sign, and develop talent that end up being top 75 players in their class in retrospect.

How is that pretty clear man? Because he didn’t get a grad transfer? Just think you’re being far too unfair writing him off as a recruiter here already. Macon too.

He literally just landed a 4 star recruit last week....

He literally just landed a 4 star recruit last week....
And?
-
And?
And....when was the last time under any other coach we got a recruit rated better than 4 stars?
Not to mention he landed Bobby Portis (5 stars) and Daniel Gafford (5 stars by some services) at Arkansas, who were more highly rated than any recruit SJU landed in what the past 15 years?
I don't get the knock against him. He has landed some great prospects in his coaching career, and like you said he has developed under the radar guys as well.

Exactly how many games has Anderson coached for SJU yet? Concern should be put on pause until he actually produces a win/loss tally. So should any overexuberance.
-

Anderson is not your typical win at all cost coach. He’s a high character guy who looks for high character young men to play in his system. He recruits locally. This isn’t Arkansas, its one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country. He will build relationships here and parents and kids alike will want to play for him. He will land his fare share of talent.
-
Looking at the amount of offers, and the type player he is interested in, coupled with landing (3) Brooklyn kids this Summer, it's pretty clear that IMA is going to get his kids and they're going to be a group of tough, elite SOB's.

I can’t speak to the talent without seeing these new guys play, but it seems like CMA wants kids who really take pride in defense.
He may not be from NY, but man-to-man defense was our calling card when we played our best basketball.
Playing on the road at MSG and Carnesecca Arena should be daunting.

40 Minutes of Hell is CMA’s business card. Need athletes with attitudes!

its like seeing a unicorn...
anyone know if he is immediately eligible to play in games..?

I think we are back in this

Getting Tabor back on board would be huge. He has major talent and would be a big time scorer in the Big East for us next season.
Would love to have him recommit, and I don’t care where he’s ranked. A special player whose upside is the NBA.
-
I don't see this as good news. He was living with Heron's family while playing at Sacred Heart so a good season from Heron would have meant a commitment from Tabor if the staff wanted it.
-
Would not turn him away but not sure he really is a top 150 player. Would much prefer Richmond.
