With Roberts being a national recruit and getting interest from all over the country, St. John’s should be right in the picture. Coach Crawford, who is from Corona, NY, knows firsthand about St. John’s and the environment that they’re creating in Queens. Roberts could fit right into the equation if they constantly pursue him because distance won’t play a part in his recruitment.
“He was very adamant about leaving Troy, Alabama and getting out to see the country,” his coach said. “I don’t think distance will have anything to do with the recruitment. I think he’s going to go off of fit and where he could see himself playing.”

Ranked the No. 86 small forward in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports.com, Roberts listed Auburn, Florida Gulf Coast, Troy and Wichita State as the other schools recruiting him the hardest.

On a positive note, St John's hosts 3-star forward Josh Roberts on official visit beginning Friday night. #sjubb
Good shot it appears

“I don’t know much about St. John’s,” said Roberts about the program. “My parents and most of my family are from New York and I know that they’re a great program. I know they go the legend Chris Mullin as head coach so that’s big time and I like it.”
As Roberts played with 2019 6-foot-4 five-star stud Jalen Lecque this past summer, he created a bond with him and his team, Southern Stampede.
“That’s my boy,” said Roberts about Lecque. He’s a good team player and teammate and we both like to win.”

Yup, saying one or two more visits MAYBE does sound good for our chances.

2018 forward Josh Roberts just verbally committed to St. John's, Chris Mullin, he tells Scout | Story: scout.com/college/basket…

so is he 6'8 or 6'10 - either way - welcome
-
Welcome to the family.
-
High upside, will challenge Mullin's player development programming, I like the potential. Him joining Keita, Bouki, Kass,, Marv and Tariq is one verstaile, long and athletic front court for next year!
-
Nice to finally have a recruit on board. Hopefully Luther Muhammad is next
-
Nice pickup. Hopefully he's solid to SJU and keeps getting better this season. Ranked similarly to Chris Silva coming out but maybe more athletic. If so, that's a nice addition.
-
Welcome Aboard!!

Kid looks like he has a lot of upside. Nice pickup. Hopefully Luther Muhammad and/or Dwayne Morgan next.

Welcome aboard and welcome to the St Johns Family, Josh Roberts!

Welcome to the squad Josh!

Welcome aboard...has anyone found highlights?

Nice addition it seems. If we can add Luther and maybe another impact player with will be a pretty good class.

Looks like the kind of kid who could help us by year 3. It's a worthwhile project if he doesn't quit after his sophomore year and transfer to Southeast Alabama.

He strikes me as a guy who is so raw that he isn't comfortable shooting the ball from anywhere. He can jump, and if he can add some muscle, maybe he can rebound a little as a freshman. It's good news to add a body, but this 2018 super class is gone. The staff has failed miserably there.
-
The staff has failed us less miserably in recruiting than you have as a so called fan.
-
It's hard to sell kids on vision when you haven't won at all yet. We need to win this season it will make recruiting much easier. Happy to have Josh with us.

You strike me as someone who knows first hand what failure is all about.

We never needed a "super" class. Adding two 4* guys and a high upside prospect should be more than enough for the program to take the next step. Luther is the critical guy, it seems.

Well, we added the project, so we're 1/3 of the way there. How's that for a glass is half full POV?

I've been going to games for over 30 years. The program has not. Your math is wrong.

Kind is big and athletic with a good motor. All of a sudden out there team gets a lot bigger next year with Keita, Roberts, Diakite, Owens back etc. it takes some time to build but seems we are certainly going in right direction. Add Williams as well and things looking quite good.

Yes we will have good talent as we do this year. Will the coaching allow us to rise above mediocrity though?

All about the defense. I would have liked an assistant HC who is defense-focused. Our offense i have zero questions about. Our players have to buy into defense more too though. You can't just wind em up and let em go. They need to put as much effort into it as they do offense. It takes upperclassmen who want to win to do that. I think we will start to this year but but limited by lack of a big guy or two a bit. It's still lack of defensive focus that will get us. Defense doesn't take massive talent. It takes effort.

What are the expectations of our 6'10 PF/C before he arrives later this month? To me he's our biggest sleeper.

12-15 minutes, 4-5 ppg & 3 rebounds /gm. Very raw guy with good upside & best asset may be running court well.

Who puts up better numbers next season, Keita and Josh's combined production or Tariq @TTech?

Who puts up better numbers next season, Keita and Josh's combined production or Tariq @TTech?
Have you seen Keita play? I don't know what his skillset is, but I'd guess that it would close just because Owens will be a senior, and that's when players often have their best season. Roberts looks like a good prospect, but I don't know BE ready he is. Owens, by and large was a good player. He finished well enough. He had a pretty good jumper. Shot 32% from three point range. Comes down to how much Texas Tech wants to use him within the offense.

I don't know anything about Roberts except that he was a wide receiver, which means he can catch the ball, which puts him a leg up on most of the forwards who've been here over the last couple of years.

Go get ‘em Josh; get healthy, look forward to next year!
