The Holiday festival will apparently have Columbia and Virginia Tech:

If they are facing Columbia, who are we playing?

don't know yet!

marist played the last two years, i think, so maybe fairfield or sacred heart, hofstra, njit, stony brook... who knows?  saw a bit also about how the release of various teams' OOC schedules may be slowed down by Preseason NIT scheduling (http://blogs.indystar.com/purdue/2008/07/summer_basketball_action.html) and the placement of the Georgia Bulldogs.  Or some crap.

As for the Holiday festival, some teams I'd bet St. John's won't be playing:

Fordham
Iona
Rider
Albany

Too much of a chance for an embarrassing loss.

Ive asked some people why St Johns hasnt played IONA or Fordham in some years. I keep getting the same answer, SJU refuses to schedule the 2 teams. Why is this?

Because Fordham is terrible, and we usually beat them and get zero credit for it.
Why on earth should we play them in an environment where they could sniff an advantage?

I bet we'd smoke them this year, anyway. They lost their one good player.

Dont be so sure about that! Rider has some good players, including Ryan Thompson. IONA has some players who would start for St Johns right now

Ryan Thompson got drafted this year to the kings. I think his brother plays on the team.

I loved watching Rider play.  Their coach is very good.  As in he will have a high Div-I job soon good.  And Ryan Thompson is an excellent player.

A confidential source reports to us that Cornell's first round NIT Season Tip-Off (aka "Preseason NIT") opponent is St. John's. The game will be played on the campus of Boston College. An official announcement from the NIT is expected within the next week.

Hofstra was embarrassing last year. They looked terrible. They emptied their bench in the hopes that someone could make a shot but no one could.

Read the same list of schools JJ mentioned in a letter from Monasch to basketball season ticket holders.  One of those letters that tells you how wonderful life has been since last season ended - taking a trip to Cancun, CA refurbished, recruits . . . and then the sales line that even though we are playing one additional home game this year compared to last year, the cost for season tickets will not be increasing.  After the awful product they put on the floor last year I was hoping for a drop in price.  Easy to hold the cost when we will be probably be playing even fewer games at MSG this year!
