Five visitors tonight for St. John's: Zed Key, Lester Quinones, Alan Griffin, R.J. Davis and Adrian Griffin Jr. #sjubb

Kids just need to fight. Show something.
That is probably the most disappointing part of the last two games besides the losses. They fought very hard on the road against FAAARRR superior competition shorthanded and then just laid an egg twice at home against inferior competition.
-
Took Nova -12. Rough night for Johnnies. Donte gonna have a game
-
Truth be told. I’m not convinced Ponds is 100 percent. Bash had the flu. Just not enough caliber players to even beat Georgetown. The Depaul game was the ultimate let down.
-
Johnnies show some fight but not enough against the juggernaut.
Nova 92
SJU 76

Close at half, but Nova wins by 15

Fitting this game is on Fox Business after all of Rothstein's Fortune 500 company tweets about Villanova

2 shots that didn't even hit rim
-
That long 2 by Ahmed with 22 seconds on the shot clock is what's wrong with the coaching that a deeper roster won't solve
-

Mullin -“what the Fvck type of shot was that? Get him out!”
<looks down bench, sees Amar > “actually leave him in.”
-
Refs are so bad at reffing basketball it’s insane. That’s a goddamn foul on every basketball court in the world.
-
Hahah the refs. Thanks for the make up call
-
Why Ponds why
-
Team getting after it on D especially on the boards. Let's see how long that lasts
-
Enough with the 3s Owens
-
Run an actual offensive set one time please. Reward the defensive effort with some good looks
-
I’m turning all my hate and frustration this rest of season towards the refs. It is disgusting
-
Run an actual offensive set one time please. Reward the defensive effort with some good looks
Spot on. Yet to see.a.screen for an open look
-
A lucky bounce. A bullshit foul and then a no call on the other end followed by a another divencenzo 3 lol
-
Nice play, Owens to Kas
-
Nova is so good at the little things.
-
Ponds killing us with the bricks
-
Is Lovett not on benchM
Don't see him...
he must be rehabbing his knee to get ready for Red Storm Tip-Off next Oct.
-
Played pretty solid D for a good chunk of that half and still down 7.
The staff needs to quit with the 2 foul autobench in the first half. Just can't compete with teams like this with Trimble and Amar playing big minutes because of foul trouble to Simon and Clark. Either teach the guys how to play defense without fouling or let them play with 2 fouls. By the time they come back in it's too late

Maybe shopping for new shirts
-
They have guards out rebounding Owens consistently. He needs help and size.
-
Mullin with a Lavin-esque timeout up 20-18 and playing well. Since then, Nova on a 16-7 run.
-

Too busy taking 3s
-
Clark please fo up strong
-
Nova's interior passing is a thing of beauty. Mullin and staff should take notes.
-
This is gonna get ugly quick
-
Simon is really careless with the ball.
-
Ponds looks great inside the 3 point line
-
The most exciting part of this game is Fox Business' ticker on the bottom line showing random in-game NFL scores from weeks ago like they are happening now

7 or 8!3s 😂

Ha! Yeah And several teams are playing multiple games in a weekend. Impressive.
-
Clark ran the best fast break for this team in several games.
-
Nova wastes no time. Their guys pass the ball and find the open guy as soon as they get it.
-

No they take their time better than any team in the country. Every catch is a ball fake. Every good shot is passed up for the better shot.

It's called coaching. And like I said, they find the open guy immediately and make the right pass.

Always kills us
-
Donte would be an All American if he only played SJU.
-
Waiting for Ahmed to make a bone head play here
-
We know what Simon needs to work on in the summer, a jump shot.
Nova's guards make u pay if you leave them open. Simon won't even look to take a 3.
-
Phil Booth horrible game
-
Why is Clark on the bench for Trimble down the stretch?
-
Why is Clark coming in on a defensive posssssion?
-
In what world is that a foul on Ponds
-
That was an over the back on Bridges. The refs have favored Nova a bit tonight.
-
Legit worst call I've ever seen
-
It's over now. Nova's bench doesn't shut the f up. Bunch of whiny bitches. Reminds me of the Celtics.
-
Clark wide open for 3 he misses it. Divencenzo wide open for 3 he makes it with his eyes closed.
Can't shoot 9% from 3....
-
Why is Clark coming in on a defensive posssssion?
Clark 1 rebound tonight
-
2nd time Owens got posterized tonight
-
Refs have got to get better it is gross
-
Never really had a chance to win but at least we covered
-

Glad I hit with Eagles earlier.
-
Why is Clark coming in on a defensive posssssion?
Clark 1 rebound tonight
But if you add up his season totals it does come out to a good game.
-
Anyone see that look Mullin gave Wright after the handshake

This and it was the difference tonight.

Improvement from last year when he wouldn't even look at the other coach.
-
Anyone see that look Mullin gave Wright after the handshake
Yeah I did. Wonder what Wright said there. Didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary until Mullin shot him that look
-
Ponds should have been shooting one and one down four. Instead they basically give the game to nova as the free throws put them up six. If they simply failed to call that foul on bridges it would have been horrific— the fact that they called that a foul on ponds is disturbing. I don’t know if I’ve seen a more obvious over the back. He literally jumped on ponds’s back and knocked him to the ground. Insane
-
Clark wide open for 3 he misses it. Divencenzo wide open for 3 he makes it with his eyes closed.
Can't shoot 9% from 3....
let's not make them better than they are..
8.3% to be exact (1 of 12)....
Nova ?? 13-30 (43.3%)
-
Never really felt like we would win, but that was a terrible call on Ponds. It killed the small chance we had.
Overall, watching Ponds take 28 shots and basically go one on one will get very old, very fast. Guess that is all we have right now.
-
Ponds mid range game is sweet. He should never take another 3 this season
-

At least Mullin and Richmond's skill development program is really paying off.
-
Sad that Ponds had to be more than 50% of the offense and even then 0-6 from 3. At end of game, didn't even look to see if teammates were open as he knew they were invisible all night.
I hope we don't blame the refs, especially the Ponds foul at end for not winning... That was part of it, but that was not deciding factor. Nova just plays team ball, even when not at their best. Our team cannot fully grasp that, especially on offense.

The clark missed three in the corner was off a great pass from ponds.

got me on that one... you're right
Nice that we showed up and didn't get embarrassed, but it's still a L and we are 0-6 in conf.

Haha..... no jumping in SJU shuttle bus to lend team support (even if not on bench but behind it ? At least Mullin is getting good at PR spin game.

Lol I was thinking the same thing. Didn't realize it was such a big deal to go from boro to boro.

Refs are so bad at reffing basketball it’s insane. That’s a goddamn foul on every basketball court in the world.
Missed a half dozen calls on Brunson. But they are doing the best they can. All of them are too old and need to be replaced by a machine. (Sorry Republicans, but when you’re useless, you’re useless)

They missed a few offensives on Ponds as well though. He likes to hook and push off. He slapped Brunson in the face at one point

Novody could possibly believe that after seeing it in slow mo. It was an awful call and took away any chance we had to win.
-
Never seen a kid have to do more for his team than Ponds. It's unreal how much better he is than everyone else on this roster.

I did and I take back what I said earlier.
I will say this though, the possession prior to that they got gift. Ponds was double teamed fell to the floor and then was tied up with possession to SJU. Should have been a walk.

WTF is wrong with you? The refs let Brunson get away with murder and you want to dissect a close call like that after embarrassing yourself in the blatant over the back?

FWIW Calipari says that he tells recruits never go to a school where you will be their best payer.

Ahmed really kills this team defensively. When he closes out on a shooter he runs over late like he forgot to add the fabric softener. This was supposed to be his big breakout senior season. He’s just not prepared for it. Minimal improvement if any.

Simon brings way more to the table than Trimble. Trimble is horrible defensively got blown by a ton last night, and on offense all he literally does is stand at the same spot on the perimeter and doesn't move..... When he gets the ball he either chucks up a 3, or passes it right away. I don't think I've seen him dribble the basketball all year.
Not all his fault though. When your coach doesn't run any semblance of an offense it's tough. You would think they'd run screens for Ponds or Trimble to get an open shot, but nah.... We're content to go 1 on 1 all game, and have Bashir Ahmed blindly drive to the middle and throw the ball off the backboard as hard as he can.

Sounds like you are talking about Clark also. The season lost, I would like to see what we have in Trimble before he is either jettisoned or decides to leave on his own. Also would like to see Simon get used to the 6th man role. But I agree on all your points

Trimble stands around and every once in awhile hoists up a three. Simon is 2bd best plyer on team and once we get better scorers will be even better. Simon is not the problem. Trying to do to much because we do not have any scorers.
-
Simon is really good. Only a sophomore reminds me of postell. On this team he only comes off the court if he is exhausted. Trimble shouldn’t be playing 20 plus minutes unless their is injury or foul trouble.
The offense is often a high screen for ponds, then pass out for a 3. Teams are going to give up that shot to our lesser players all day. They are happy with. It looks like our staff is also.
Trimble- watched the game late last night after the football. Was falling asleep. Don’t remember him getting beat on defense. I can remember in the past him being a decent athlete who isnt a liability on defense. I hope he stays. I think he is just playing to much now.

I was at the game. His man was getting by him A LOT leading to someone helping which lead to Nova passing it around the perimeter for an eventual open 3.
-
Simon is much more talented than Trimble. We will see more of Trimble as the season goes on but right now he's a one trick pony.

I actually saw Trimble go to the hole as i have hoping he would do more of. He needs to have that threat to keep defenses off him a little
-
Ponds was incredible. It's Big East efforts like this that get players moving on to greener pastures. See Harkless, Mo*.
Refereeing basketball is very, very difficult. Just saying.
For those putting down Trimble I have just two words. Rich Freudenberg.

He definitely needs to get better at moving without the ball. He tends to just hover around the 3 pt line. The good deep shooting is his best asset right now. He needs to keep it up and develop other parts of his game.

Carmine your a ref right? It’s Very difficult and I certainly don’t envy them. But a play right in front of you in the last minute of the game in which you don’t just miss a call you make the obviously wrong one which takes away the chance of the other team, you have to be called out. It has seemingly gotten worse, I find myself laughing at some calls that go in our favor as well.

Yes, that call was rough and if made correctly would have given us a chance to cut it to 2. They don't have instant replay and everything looks differently from different angles.
Out of all the sports in the world only one can be the toughest to officiate. And it's basketball.

Simon is really good. Only a sophomore reminds me of postell.
Postell was my favorite SF of all-time. Please don't ever make that comparison again until Simon starts to hit the offensive glass. Postell was an offensive rebounding machine. He crashed the glass every shot and averaged more offensive boards than Simon and Clark combined.
Simon has that potential. New Mexico St. has a 6'5 200 lb SF averaging 3.8 offensive boards in 28 mpg. Don't tell me Simon can't do that.
