Long Island wing seeing recruiting explode with strong spring for NY Panthers
Who is J.J. Moore?
That is a question being asked by many a fan, recruitnik and college coach this spring as the 6-foot-5, 200-lb small forward from Brentwood High School on Long Island has been having a breakout spring playing with the NY Panthers on the AAU circuit and the tough IS8 Spring League in NYC.

Zags Blog (http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/08/17/recruiting-update-jj-moore-jamail-jones-trevor-releford-achraf-yacoubou/)
J.J. Moore is on the move.
The 6-foot-5 senior wing from Long Island visited Providence last week and will hit Pittsburgh on Tuesday and potentially St. John’s on Thursday.
“I think J.J. was really impressed with the new coach [at Providence, Keno Davis] and what they’re trying to build over there and he’s also impressed with the financial investment that the school and community has invested into making the program top notch,†said Hunt Bresky, Moore’s advisor who is making the trips with him.
“He was really pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. He wasn’t as familiar with Providence as some of the other programs.â€

Per Zags- JJ Moore down to StJ, Pitt & Louisville
Long Island wing J.J. Moore has cut his list to three Big East schools after a weekend official visit to Louisville.
“The list is three schools: Louisville, Pittsburgh and St. John’s,†said Gary Charles, Moore’s AAU coach with the New York Panthers. Moore made the trip with Charles and Moore’s mentor, Hunt Bresky.
Charles said Moore, ranked No. 23 among small forwards in the Class of 2010, is tentatively slated to take an official to St. John’s the weekend of Oct. 30 and to Pitt the weekend of Nov. 6.
Florida is out after getting a commitment from Jackson (Tenn.) small forward Casey Prather.
After visiting St. John’s and Pitt, Moore will be ready to announce a decision.
“The goal is for him to see everyone in the same exact element that he saw Louisville in,†Charles said.

How great would it be to land a 2 man class of JJ & Jay P
-
Apparently he made his decision on his trip to Louisville.

Small forward J.J. Moore of South Kent Prep School in Connecticut visited the University of Louisville last weekend and loved it, the director of his AAU team said. He watched the Cardinals practice and spent time with coach Rick Pitino.
Now the 6-foot-6 player plans to give the other two schools he's considering — Pittsburgh and St. John's — a chance to make a similar impression. He had planned to pick a college after the U of L visit but will postpone the decision until he can see Pitt and St. John's again and watch their practices; he wasn't able to do that in previous visits to those schools.
“He wanted to be fair to everyone else,†said Gary Charles, the director of the AAU New York Panthers. “He wanted to visit the other two schools when he could see them in the same environment (as he saw U of L). Watch the team practice, get to know them a little and just see how things are going to be at that school.
“He loved the visit (to U of L). Because he loved it so much, he felt compelled to visit the other schools again and make sure about his decision.â€
Charles said Moore, who is ranked the nation's No. 107 senior by Rivals.com, will visit St. John's next weekend and Pittsburgh on Nov. 6.

So you think he was on the verge of coming here until this?

So you think he was on the verge of coming here until this?
You got that from my post? We were in his final 3 and the above article makes it sound like he has made his decision but will finish his visits. Much stronger than other reports.
-
JJ will be on campus tomorrow following his game at IS8 which I will be in attendance for
-
This kid is the real deal. Cmon Norm, lets get him in red and white!
-
Any chance this kid wants to stay home and play in front of friends and family? Hopefully Norm works some magic this weekend.

JJ Moore went to the Knicks game with Norm

They were behind the scenes according to Zach checking out locker rooms and media. I think thats pretty cool if you ask me. The Knicks though are putrid so if St. John's makes some noise they will be the talk of the town.

You have to start reading the site. This was posted on Nov. 5th
http://johnnyjungle.com/recruiting/perfect-or-pinkston-situation/ (http://johnnyjungle.com/recruiting/perfect-or-pinkston-situation/)
JJ Moore has been a busy young man lately taking visits to Louisville, St. John’s, and Pittsburgh in about a 10 day stretch. He really enjoyed all three of his visits and he is going to make his decision in two weeks from Friday according to his mother. “He will be making his decision in two weeks from Friday. We don’t want to make the coaches hold out if they can recruit someone else.â€

To Pitt
-
Damn.
-
Damn.
Damn is right. It said he wanted to get out of NYC, guess we cant blame him. PINKSTON!!
-
next
-
I'm not surprised at this what so ever. I think JJ will do well at Pitt and I wish him the best. Our main focus now is Jayvaughn Pinkston.
-
What number strike is that?
Again, here we go and put all our eggs for Pinkston and we all know how that works out from past experience.

Cant blame this on the staff
"He wanted to get out of New York and go someplace different and Pittsburgh provided the opportunity to leave New York but yet not be too far away so that his family would be able to come see him play at home. I think that was an important factor for J.J.â€
-
When push comes to shove, too many excuses. You can't kill Norm for each recruiting battle lost but you CAN blame him if the big picture is inadequate. Gotta sign a big recruit from NYC or erlse it spells trouble. Gotta build on the signing of Omari last year. GOTTA.

Exactly. Excuses all the time for one thing or another. At the end of the day, another one lost.
-
Forget the recruits get twenty wins and they will come
-
Agreed with KOB. But big picture-wise, it's a little disheartening; though I was surprised he was still talking St. John's at the end.
-
I know he really liked Pitt before he took all three of his visits. Pitt went after him harder than anyone else. Brandin Knight was at South Kent all the time and he liked their coaching staff a lot. So even when that article came out of the Louisville paper about JJ liking Louisville so much his heart was still on Pitt. I'm not surprised on this and I didn't want to post anything suggesting this before but I talked to JJ's mom a fair amount and I got the impression it was Pitt all along.
-
in order for this team to get 20 wins, we either need to have elite players...load up on creampuffs...or play 40 games.
the elite players from this area want to play for a real coach. that's why they're going to pitt, villanova, uconn, etc. i'm sure norm gets laughed at alot behind his back.
if i gave you a million dollars to hold your breath for 20 minutes, you couldn't do it. it's just as impossible for norm to get the top players from this area. he's been at it for six years now. what don't you understand about that?
-
Forget the recruits get twenty wins and they will come
KOB, When it comes to recruits and the decisions that they make, you are the best person to comment on the reasons. What, in your opinion, based on what you hear kids say, is the biggest reason Norm is left holding the bag year after year?
-
boo3 .... KOB might say something different but I imagine its 2 things
1) He's never won: Just as we read on our OWN boards and people say that I'm sure coaches and advisors are telling kids that. With that, Norm has no job security so I can't imagine a big recruit coming this yr in the early period with the job in question ... we gotta win 1st.
2) This program hasnt been good in so long .. the seniors in hs now were like 8 last time this program was on top and the buzz was huge. They don't see all the benefits of a good St. John's in NYC and that goes back to point 1 where we gotta win, get that great publicity and have them realize how it helps to play in the best city of the world.
-
What objective person could blame the young man for choosing a better situation?
Pitt's coach has proven he can a) win and b) get kids to the NBA (which, however delusional, is almost every top 200 player's goal). In his teenage years, one school has been a consistent winner and the other has been a bottom dweller or an afterthought in the Big East. Academically, at absolute best, it's become a toss up. In terms of facilities and fans, Pitt wins in a first round knockout.
The only thing we can offer that Pitt can't is a chance to play basketball in Queens, but he wasn't apparently enamored with the possibility of playing close to home.
At some point, Monasch will figure it out.
-
I'm not surprised at this what so ever. I think JJ will do well at Pitt and I wish him the best. Our main focus now is Jayvaughn Pinkston.
Per Adam Zagoria, "6-8 forward Jayvaughn Pinkston of Bishop Loughlin still evaluating and may sign late. Uncertain on his plans. Villanova leads. Stay tuned."
-
just from me talkin to them this is the order
1. want to experience a crazy college life
2. want to play for a winner
3. want the best gear
4. exposure as far as getting to the pros
5. they are influenced by other people
6. the women
7. the women
8. leaving home

Exactly!!!!! I have been saying that for the longest!! Winning will turn the recruiting tide in our favor...we will not get every f_ckin recruit but we will get our share.

Pittsburgh is such a hole. What a waste.
If you want to get out of NY, go to Miami, go to California.
Go to Pittsburgh, and you're just a nice person.

I would never dispute but Zags but thats just not what I hear. I also know things change quite frequently especially with kids choosing but what I heard from a few people was either Tennessee or St. John's. Then after I heard this Tennesee reports came out too. I'll see if I can get an update from Jayvaughn but should be interesting to see if he is at the opener on Friday night.

I agree.

Bottom Line We need to win this year.

Ah, it must be basketball season.
Personally, I really like Pittsburgh. But I know some good people who grew up there or went to school there or work there.

Are you still annoyed that you spent your college years in the depressing snow belt of Syracuse, NY?

Easy to offend? I am not easy to offend at all...you think I'm offended by you? Ha.
I'm embarassed for you at how childish and immature you sound consistently! You hate on everyone and anything and sound no more mature than a 12 year old while doing it, meanwhile you are probably one of our more "elder statesman."

This is a thread about JJ Moore.
Not feelings. No offense guys. Seriously, bring it to PM.
Or we can just have a "dozens" thread where guys with online beefs can go at each other.
