I know I've posted this a half-dozen times already, but Bol Bol's brother was named after Chris Mullin.  Chris and Manute were very good friends.  I've got this one penciled in already.

Some folks had Rowan penciled in.  Not trying to be an ass, but I'm not taking anything for granted anymore!

I these are two very different levels of father-coach connection.  By all accounts Ron Rowan had a falling out with SJU in the not-too-distant past and Chris and Ron were never anywhere near as close as Chis and Manute.  Besides, I said pencil...not pen ;)

@3ricHampford: The upside of KC Run GMC 6'10" C Bol Bol is ridiculous. His combination of length and skill is unreal. Needs to add strength. #UAFinals

You like the form on his jumper Marillac?

Bol Bol was as talented as he is tall and long on Thursday at the Jayhawk Summer Finale. The true 6-foot-10-and-growing center for 2018 had a quality game for KC Run GMC 15's and made everything look easy in a comfortable win over the 15U Illinois Irish-Elite.

From running the floor well to tipping and snatching rebounds to swatting a shot off the backboard to a smooth two-dribble fade-away runner across the lane, the Bishop Miege (Kan.) product showed a good portion of his arsenal with a plethora of high-major coaches on hand. It was undoubtedly a solid outing for the young big man. - See more at: https://nychoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1785716#sthash.7eQ95dV8.dpuf

Mad skills for height and age. Looks like the next Thon Maker already. Ball handling and shooting like someone a foot shorter.

Bol Bol will choose North Carolina because of something he said in the interview.;).  He said he wants a "school that will help with his schoolwork"  and at UNC they do it for you without making you go to class.

Hopefully a winning season next year and a very young and talented roster for '18 might attract Bol but competition will be very stiff. This may have been touched on before but I wonder if Chris has any personal relationship with the kid being that he was close with his father and should know the family.

Mullin knows kid & family well, so SJU should be in hunt. That quest, however, includes battling Kansas, which is not only closer to home, but obviously an elite program.

Thanks, hopefully by the time he is ready to commit in 2018 we are fresh off an NCAA tournament berth.

Bol Bol spoke about about his past experiences with Coach Mullin and his campus trip. “I met Chris Mullin a couple of times when I was younger, my dad played with him.”

Will St Johns remain as a front runner once he narrows his down? Bol responded, “I only have five offers but as of right now, yes.”

Although the Rivals five star appears timid in demeanor, his game spoke for him at the Gauchos gym snatching down rebounds while displaying post moves.

Sounds like we have a decent shot.

Isn't Mullin his Godfather? Not sure if that's right but he's gotta have some influence
on this kid. Him and Manute were close right?

You would think, huh. Everything I've read he has very little to no interest in our beloved Johnnies.

Mullin is a really bad Godfather. Maybe missed birthdays
or his Commmunion or something.

MUllin was the a different son's Godfather (step brother).

Perhaps there is some family bond there but given Manute Bol died ~7 years ago, Bol Bol would have been perhaps 9-10 and unlikely Bol would know Mullin much as they were out of NBA for a while..

Manute Bol died 7 years ago.  Bol Bol would have only been a little kid at that poiny. Depends on how close, if any relationship continued and was there prior to Mullin becoming a coach.  Can't just come out of woodwork playing the close friend card.

St.John's comes out of the woodwork when they need something. Like they say, they're a family, and if you think about it, everyone has a relative that's always got his hand out.
