Yes, I've seen him at multiple events, beginning with the King James in April. He plays for LeBron's former high school and his current AAU team. A thin, but athletic hybrid forward, who will probably have to play the three at the next level. Played the 4 for St.V/St.M, but changed it up depending upon the setting and opponent
And what are the academic problems (I think you mentioned this in another thread, but I don't see it right now)?
He needs to raise his core scores in order to meet the NCAA minimum, according to someone close to him. The person felt that, if he signed with someone early, that the program he committed to could frankly help him get qualified, so to speak.

Per Jeff Borzello.... Pretty much more of what we heard from a couple of days ago.  It also seems like (according, to Sampson's AAU coach) he's in good academic standing.

LeBron James was not the only the St. Vincent-St. Mary product with a big decision on his hands lately.

Rising senior Jakarr Sampson, from the same high school as James, has seen his recruitment expand as he shoots up the national rankings, but he could be closer to narrowing his school list.

Despite that, a report Monday morning claiming that Sampson had named three favorites is false, according to Sampson and his AAU coach with the King James Shooting Stars, Donald Anderson.

Forward Jakarr Sampson had a solid game scoring 10 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists to zero turnovers.

Jakarr Sampson is down to six schools- Tennessee, St. John's, Louisville, Baylor, Kansas and Michigan State.

JaKarr Sampson of St. Vincent-St. Mary visited Brewster (N.H.) Academy on Sunday and is considering spending his senior year there, according to Don Anderson, his AAU coach. Anderson said Sampson’s current college list includes St. John’s, Tennessee, Kansas, Baylor and Louisville and added that “Marquette may be joining the party because Michigan State is out.”…

St. John's is involved with numerous top prospects in the Class of 2011, including ..... No. 37 JaKarr Sampson of Akron, Ohio
Said Sampson: "I would say St. John's is in my top three. I really like St. John's, actually.
It will fit my playing style. They're rebuilding their program."

But not new.  After reading back, realized its repeating a quote that Zags posted  2 weeks ago

He's going to be playing with fellow St. John's recruit Naadir Tharpe, Markus Kennedy (Nova), Kyrie Irving's friend Eli Carter, Durand Johnson (Pitt), and Ge-Lawn Guyn (Cincy) and they think it will help him academically get qualified...same school that narrowly got Will Barton eligible for Memphis this year.

JaKarr Sampson is headed to Brewster (N.H.) Academy and his old coach isn’t too happy about it.

The 6-foot-8, 193-pound forward had spent the previous three years at Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary, LeBron James’ alma mater.

But after visiting national powerhouse Brewster Aug. 15, Sampson elected to spend his senior year there, joining a loaded team that will also include big man Markus Kennedy and guards Naadir Tharpe and Elijah Carter.

Really nice article with quotes from Sampson's mother about his grades and what the Xavier connection is: http://community.foxsports.com/goodmanonfox/blog/2010/08/27/sampson%E2%80%99s_mother_takes_sole_responsibility_for_move_to_brewster_academy

Granted, I know the truth is probably slightly more shady than this, but his mom is working to get him eligible.  Kudos on her trying to get her son more focused.

Would really like him to come to campus with Tharpe and maybe a little visit from Harkless.

Per Zagsblog....

JaKarr Sampson enjoyed his unofficial visit to Tennessee Wednesday and is now considering four schools.

“He’s considering Tennessee, Baylor, St. John’s and he’s still looking at Kansas,” Don Anderson, Sampson’s AAU coach, said Thursday by phone. “Four schools pretty much.”

Anderson said the 6-foot-8, 193-pound Sampson had hoped to take another swing through St. John’s Friday en route to Brewster but doubts it can happen.
Sampson said he still plans on taking an official to St. John’s after taking an unofficial earlier this summer.

“I know I’m going to visit St. John’s,” Sampson said by phone. “My mom and coach Don haven’t set a date yet. That would be official.”

Per Scout via Neal Nieves....  It seems, according to Sampson's AAU coach, he'll be making a decision in less than a month.

On a when he will make decision, His AAU coach Don Anderson said this.

“It’ll be less than a month,”  Anderson told Scout.com. “I believe it’ll be less than a month.”

Hopefully Lavin can sell this kid on coming here.  Can just imagine not the matchup problems we could cause with guys like Sampson, Harkless and Polee.

Its a little scary that his camp is saying he will decide within the month after he just visited Tennessee but hopefully he does come here for an official before he makes up his mind. I think all Lavin needs is a few hours with this kid and we will be his favorite again if we aren't right now.
