Birch, who is originally from Canada, is one of the newest Canadian talents to enter American basketball. After starting off at Winchendon in Massachusetts, the rising junior decided it was best to make a change and leave for Notre Dame Prep. The 6-foot-9 forward may be skinny but he can play. Arguably one of the best players in his grade, Birch has gotten much better on the defensive side of the game. His shot blocking ability has increased, as well. He must improve on his jump shot, as well as his face up skills. For the time being, Khem Birch is a very good player for his age.

With his success, tons of looks from major division one schools. His list consists of "Arizona, Villanova, Syracuse, Providence, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Ohio State, Siena, Massachusetts, UConn, Rutgers and St. John's." Could the Red Storm land the talented young man? Maybe if they show some more interest. "I haven't talked to their new staff yet but I'm looking for to it," said Khem. "I have no clue about St. John's. It would be good to visit the school and learn about their history." The old staff under Norm Roberts was in on the recruitment of the big Canadian. The only problem was that he did not have the best relationship in the world with their staff. So far, Steve Lavin and company have revived the Queens school. Could they land one of the top players in the class of 2012? It's certainly a possibility if they make the contact.

In that top video, that team looked top notch. There always seems to be a doofy white kid getting dunked on in these highlight videos.

Khem Birch (Winchendon, Mass./Winchendon) is a 6-9 long and very athletic forward that controlled the glass on both ends of the floor. Birch had numerous offensive rebound put-backs and a ton of blocked shots. He has unbelievable timing, athletic ability and a knack for blocking shots on or away from the ball. Some coaches have compared Birch to Kenyon Martin.

Wow.  Kid looks good.  That Kenyon Martin comparison is spot on.

Seems like this kid has legitimate interest and wants to at least visit us. I would say we got to get on this kid but Lavin is all over the place and if he knows this kid is interested I am sure he will be speaking with him soon. This kid is a monster and hes from the northeast, these are the guys we should be getting.

Khem is Pitt's to lose right now because of Skerry, but I spoke with him for a while just last week.
Even though he's from Montreal, he's very tight with Angel Nunez. They went to Winchendon together last year and transferred to ND Prep in May. He's going to be playing down in Orlando next week.

Khem Birch - Expressions 2011 had an absolute runaway win, and Birch was a huge reason wh. The athletic power forward was hanging off the rim with dunk after dunk, and then would mix it up with a blocked shot to start the break on the other end. His skill game wasn't on display, but that was because it didn't have to be as Expressions had complete control of the game from the opening tip. His body, athleticism, and length make him one of the premier prospects in the 2012 class.

Birch, who has emerged as an elite post prospect in the 2012 class, put up a phenomenal double/double of 25 points and 20 rebounds. The most athletic player on the court, Birch also blocked six shots. His offense is still a work in progress, but he shot 11-15 from the field and made all three of his field goals.

One to watch

Khem Birch
2012, PF, 6-7, 185 | Team: Canada
Birch is one of the elite prospects in the Class of 2012. He has a long, lean frame and is extremely bouncy. He influences the game at a high level, despite being limited offensively. He had a number of extraordinary blocks and electrifying dunks in traffic. He gets to the rim before most get off the ground. He projects as a hybrid 4-man, but his skills and fundamentals need polishing.

Once again Khem Birch had a stellar performance for Canada and had the full attention of the NBA scouts on hand. A superb athlete with a competitive spirit, Birch put up 23 points on 10-12 shooting, 11 rebounds, two assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals.

His quickness off the floor and his left hand finishes were impressive.

Birch is definitely making a name for himself here in the Pacific Northwest. The quick leaper can change the complexion of the game at both ends. Whether it's filling the lane and putting down one of his many spectacular dunks or just hovering around the paint swatting away shots, his impact on the game is immense. He plays with great energy at both ends, and his approach never changes. His offense is still in its infantile stage, but he can turn over either shoulder and convert, despite his slight frame. Overall, he looks to be one of the top five prospects at this event.

To Pitt according to Goodman.  The assistant Dixon hired from Providence paid off.
