From mater di too I believe. Lav knows that school week. Why did he decommit?

He played in just 1 game all year.  I don't know the eligibility rules but can Ivy to regular conference playing only 2 minutes in one game all year get him eligible immediately?

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he would be a mid year eligible transfer.

I don't think it matters.  If you played 1 second you have been deemed to have played that year unless you suffered a serious injury.  In that case the rule is as long as you have not played in more then 1/3 of your games you can use that season as a redshirt.

Bottom line is I think he would have to sit a year.

He played 2 minutes early in the season. I think he actually could be Dec eligible

not at all athletic.  but i'd take him in a heart beat as our 3-point specialist.

I hate hearing if someone is athletic.  There are plenty of players still playing this week who are not athletic.

athleticism is part of Lav's recruiting strategy right? so anyone that doesn't necessarily fit that mold isn't part of that strategy. but i like i said, not at all athletic but i'd take him.

If Josh Smith wanted to come to STJ would Lavin say no because he wasn't athletic?
If a dead eye shooter who was 6'6 but slow wanted to come to STJ would Lavin say no?

Yeah athletes are preferred but you cannot and will not find a team of total packages.  Everyone has a weakness.

Even in the NBA

I like to look at this situation and everyone having a role on a good team.

FYI: Hooper was part of a six man recruiting class brought in by Amaker this past season. Four of them got regular minutes and the fifth was a sub who saw action in only eight games. Hooper played twice and was on the court for just a couple of minutes in early season blowouts in November. He was the lowest rated recruit of the six according to ESPN rankings (a one star rating). How much time he would see in a Big East program if he was unable to find minutes in the Ivy League is debatable, but it seems like he can shoot the basketball.

1 game was exhibition I think

Also it seems Amaker went with the upperclassmen.

Something was up no doubt for him not to play but god if thats a 1 star recruit, wow.

athleticism can be developed while that pure shooting stoke is hard to come by if not rare. but what is the exact rule on his eligibility? would he have to sit out could he play right away? december eligible?

Trust me, he is better than a 1 star recruit, he is probably a 3 star and a kid who should have been ranked in Top 250 out of high school.

Kid is a great shooter and close with jakarr, but we need a shooter THIS year. Not in two years
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

They is shooters.
And then they is shooters who can get they shots off wit Dion Waiters closin in on them.
The later is the type of shooter STJ need.

Just sayin as a matter of principle.
Parking only for NYCHA permit holders.

He's 6'6 with a high arc. Sign him up if he's eligible next year. Think about morris on one wing 3'angelo on the other and hopper runnin the baseline. Pick your poison. But if hes not eligible next year  lets just end this now.

Again if they can get him as a walk-on I don't see the downside either way.

He'd have to really wanna play here to do that. I don't see a kid with that much ability willing to do that

A shooter like Hooper can have a very good role on our team. He just may be able to have a larger role somewhere else

I am not so sure he wouldn't do that. He could be like a Kuric for St Johns (trust me I know he is not that type of player) but should be able to walk on and get a scholarship later.

I was thinking the same thing at first, but when you stop and think it makes more sense.  Harvard doesn't have athletic scholarships so he was either paying his way or receiving substantial academic money.  If he was receiving academic money at harvard, I am sure he would be able to receive academic money at STJ.  If he was paying his way then he pays for one more year and then he becomes a scholarship player.

Choz- You don't think Max is that type of shooter?

Dont know.

Just sayin a shooter gotta have foot speed to get around picks against man and to swing the baseline on zone 'cause evry team know what he gonna do.

That 0.5 second of clearance is the diff between net and embarassment. See Ricky Torres. See Fred Lyson. See Moe Brown. See Cav.

All these brothers lit it up from long range in high school. All them couldnt keep up in the BE.

Just sayin to be cautious wit the highlight tapes. Fans get in a frenzy. Just temper the enthusiasm. ......

All true.  I just wonder if just having a player on the roster might dissuade teams from packing the paint and daring us to shoot like they have for the past however many years.  A true zone buster.

I've seen Max play a few times, he has good size, consistent release, not overly quick/agile, but doesn't require much daylight to get his shot off. I liked him when I saw him play. I don't think he's a "Big East" player so to speak but do think in the right situation he can be successful in the Big East.

You don't have 5 studs out on the court all the time. Role players/ specialists whatever you want to call them can thrive if they are accepting to do their job. Max wants to get minutes and if he came to St. John's he'd be expected to crack the rotation otherwise he would have stayed at Harvard.

I think he's a good teammate and will work hard in practice. For me that means something too.
