Title: Felix back home
Post by: JohnnyJungle on January 26, 2014, 07:27:24 PM
His mother got sick and he's gone back home to be with her. I believe it is the first time he's been back home since coming over to states.

St. John's will attempt to regain his redshirt for this season.

Hopefully he can get that redshirt back. If he can't I would assume it would make it tough for him to graduate without having to pay his own way since he is missing a semester and that would be a shame.

This info is correct.  Felix is back home (left day of Dartmouth game)
Wonder what pull we will have to get him back on redshirt

He played what, like 10 minutes all season? I think he'll be given a redshirt. They do it for injuries all the time, I would think his mother being sick would be along the same lines.

hardship waiver

1) the injury/illness is a season-ending injury;
2) the injury/illness occurs prior to the completion of the first half of the season; and
3) the injury/illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than the greater of three contests/dates of competition or 30% of the team’s scheduled contests/dates of competition during the team’s traditional season. (Bylaw 4.2.4)

He meets 2 and 3.  Does family illness constitute season-ending injury? Or did Felix "re-aggravate" his preseason injury?

When I first read this, I thought you said " I wonder what we'll have to pull to get him back on redshirt". Actually I think that's the better question. We seem to have a team with unusually sick mothers.

Wish the best for him and his family.

His redshirt wouldn't be an issue if he just didn't have that one good pesky week of practice.

Best wishes to Felix and his family.  I hope the NCAA does what is right and grants him a waiver.  It's not like the kid's mom lives right down the street.

Nowhere does it list family member so I would say he is not eligible for redshirt due to mothers illness. Hardship waiver may be granted in that the hardship is for playing for a dumb a$$ crazy a$$ed coach!

It's one thing to criticize his coaching, it's another to throw around baseless rumors simply because you don't like him.

What rumor? The second part of my statement was a joke? Rumor? Read it again, are you for real!

Don't dislike Lavin but don't think he has treated Felix fairly this season, what with redshirting him for first 10 games, pulling the redshirt off him to start in one game than little to DNPCD in other games. Feel he has wasted a year of the kid's eligiblility so I made a joke at Lavin's expense. Sorry if I offended you.

I'm not convinced having a sick mother is grounds for a redshirt. if he re aggravated an injury,that would be grounds for 1. And as unfair as it sounds wo a redshirt,he looses the year,Like Hooper did playing 1 game for Harvard. that said, I hope he gets it.

But he is back in his country and not in school.  It's a little different to me.

Don't know about redshirt. But Felix is sitting behind bench in all red warmup , not regular warmups

I know of guys who played a little in football got their red shirt back. But they got hurt . Tyler eifert from nd played a little as freshman. He hurt his back.  ( atleast he said he did) he also only played a little in the very beginning of the season . Not sure if that makes a difference

Hopefully Felix's buddy Diallo was watching last night. His former coach at OSNA was;

@EJack_: Congrats to former OSNA player @obekpa12 on his 10 pt 5 rb and 3 blks last night in @StJohnsBBall 86-76 win over Providence last night

I know no one feels that Felix is the answer, but I am curious about what is going on with him.  I've always been intrigued by his athleticism and reputation for being a hard worker.  I'm looking forward to seeing him play even with the growing pains we'll see on the court.

I hope he isn't transferring.  And I hope to hell he qualifies for the red shirt this year because of his family situation.  Haven't heard anything more on that.

I hear he plans to room with Cheick Diallo in 2015.    :)

I really hope not. He's the kind of player we need more of.

That was a joke.  He was indicating that Diallo will not be at St. John's.

Yes.  Sorry.  It was a joke.  I would have no problems seeing Felix fill Phil's shoes next year.  Just hope he has 3 years left and not 2.
