St. John's offered Rob Thomas a 4 year scholarship because he earned it. I never saw him play before the injury, but according to many on this board he was great. In his 4 years years here I am sure he did his best. He has had some good games. But he has done nothing on the BASKETBALL COURT to earn a 5th year!! 4th string players who are out of shape don't earn 5th years. That may be harsh but it is still true.

He was good before his injury, but he was also a manchild for his own age AND was playing against kids two years younger than him.  He committed to South Florida before St. John's.  It wasn't like we stole him from Duke.

Its a minor cure from the boredom of work. Actually, in past weeks Baldi saved our program a headache pertaining to facebook. Ask Dave ;)

Not worth repeating but Baldi did very well by St. John's.

BARRY VISITING UCLA

Remi Barry, a 6-7 wing from Del Oro (Calif.) High who is projected as a potential NBA player, will visit UCLA beginning Sunday, according to his AAU coach, Doc Haynes.

“Leaving at 10 a.m.,” Haynes texted.

Barry, who is originally from France, also ranks St. John’s and Arizona State among his favorites.

“I don’t have any favorite at all,” he said last week. “I have top three. UCLA, St. John’s and Arizona State.”

Haynes said Kentucky, Texas, Baylor and North Carolina also became recently involved after Barry recently had some coursework approved. But no visits have been set to those schools.

Lavin actually played this well. When it looked like Barry might not make the grade, Lavin probably told him he wanted him anyway, and would proceed to stash him at a prep where the coach likes St. John's. No skin off Lavin's nose to maybe have to wait a year -- we technically don't have an opening anyway.

But now that it looks like he may have made the grade and all the heavy hitters are out in force, Lavin can ask Barry where those programs were when they thought he wouldn't be eligible. Loyalty often plays a big role in these situations.

I predict he will be in a SJU uniform this fall. These things work themselves out.

saw this post...which mentions him possibly needing summer school.  Essentially a conditional offer from UCLA.

http://www.bruinzone.com/b12/messages/83193.shtml

1. Remi Barry was blown away with his visit. UCLA is now his leader, but he will visit his other two finalists, St. Johns and Arizona State. He has been offered a scholarship IF he graduates with the class of 2010. This includes summer school so this could drag on for months.

http://www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2010-0520/remi-barry-set-to-visit-st-johns/

Sources have confirmed to NBE that arguably the most sought after prospect left on the board for 2010, French swingman Remi Barry, will visit St. Johns.

The visit will happen during the first week of June.

Barry is said to be down to St. Johns, Arizona State and UCLA.

Barry is a 6′7 athlete with deep range on his jumpshot and would be another huge pickup for Steve Lavin’s inaugural recruiting class in Queens.

Barry, a native of Paris, has said he’s very comfortable with big cities, which seems to give both the Johnnies and Bruins an edge.

Will Lav beat out his former school in a head-to-head battle a mere 60 days or so after taking over the storied St. Johns program?

I would like to have the last visit obviously but hey we didn't have the last visit with Polee and Lavin still closed the deal.  Unlike in years past with Norm I fully trust Lavin to sell these kids on playing for STJ.  Fingers are crossed that Lavin goes 2 for 2.

**6-7 French national Remi Barry of Del Oro (Calif.) High School will visit St. John’s either the first or second weekend of June, following visits to St. Mary’s and Arizona State. He recently visited UCLA as well.
