According to Scout and the player, St. John's has some interest; Scout says St. John's has offered.

Greene, a 6'2" guard, spent time with the entire DePaul coaching staff, and came away very impressed with new head coach Oliver Purnell. “I really like Coach Purnell, and the whole staff they have over there. DePaul is now in my top five.”

Greene is pleased with the way his recruitment is progressing. “My recruitment is going well right now. I’m looking at a lot of schools, and I plan on trying to take some visits to some schools. West Virginia, UTEP, Dayton, DePaul, St. Johns, Oregon State, Purdue, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Colorado, Southern Illinois, Bradley, Indiana State, and some other schools.”

Greene knows exactly what he is looking for in a school. "A school that I could come in and play right away and a school that plays an up-tempo style of basketball. Also, the school has to have a good coach and be a stable program. I plan to make a decision before the school season. I don’t really know when for sure, but when I feel comfortable with a school and a school is comfortable with me.”

West Virginia has offered, apparently.

The son of Aoatoyria Robinson and Phillip Greene III, the guard was ranked as the 12th best prospect in Chicago by sun-times.com before his junior season: "Still a bit of a sleeper but will wake people up quickly with his scoring ability. He's a scorer in every sense of the word. He's in the mold of former Boston College scorer Tyrese Rice."

He plays on Meanstreets AAU with Anthony Davis, so lots of coaches will see him ball (Davis is rocketing up the rankings):

Greene is a big time scorer who is just wired to get buckets. He scores outside and from the mid-range. Greene is a good athlete with a strong frame, and someone who just knows what it takes to be lethal with the ball in his hands.

“I plan to make a decision on a school in November. West Virginia, DePaul, St. Johns, Oregon, UTEP, and Oklahoma State are all up there and near the top of my list. At the moment, I’m just weighing my options.”

Per Rivals (via SJUhoopNUT on Redmen.com)....

"It was fun and I liked it a lot," Greene said of the time spent at St. John's. "They took me to The Garden where they play home games. They showed me the practice facility. It was all good. I definitely had a good feeling there."

Greene also had a chance to meet one-on-one with the Red Storm coaching staff, including new head coach Steve Lavin.

"Coach Lavin sat down with me, told me about the style of play they're going to run and how I could help," Greene said. "He's a cool dude, everything was real good. He wasn't just telling me what I want to hear."

I expect that he is better than Mike Taylor.

Phil due on campus tomorrow for an official.

Is he a SG or combo ?
Not ranked as high as some of the other guards on our list,
but if scout list is true, has been offered by 7 majors.

Hope the Tropical storm  doesnt hurt his visit.

He's a 2.  The kid can shoot it; defend and overall seems like one of those "glue guys."

Per Zagsblog....  Greene's visit is off 'til the spring.

Dan Barto, the post-graduate coordinator/coach at the IMG Basketball Academy, said none of his players, including guard Phil Greene and wing DeAndre Daniels, will visit anywhere until 2011 and won’t sign until the spring.

“None of our kids are going to take any visits until 2011,” Barto said Saturday by phone. “We’re trying to rebuild our team from scratch. We need all our guys here taking care of their schoolwork.”

I think its great news for us !

Allows us to see which of our other SG guard recruits come
(Brown, Harrison)

we were never going to fill 7-8 scholarships in the fall

He's still listing the Johnnies, as one of his schools of choice. Greene is also having a heckuva season at the moment....

Phil Greene, who blossomed on the AAU circuit while playing on Mean Streets with Anthony Davis, is getting better and better.

“Man, he’s good,” Borman said. “He’s clearly a high-major.” Borman added that Greene is averaging 28 points and 11 assists through the first eight games of the season.

As for recruiting, Kansas, Oklahoma State, St. John’s, West Virginia and many others are showing interest.

His game reminds me of Ben Gordon when I saw him in high school.  It's kind of scarey.  I just flashed back to watching Gordon hit two three's in the last 20 seconds to beat my high school at the buzzer after trailing by four.

Phillip Greene (IMG High School)- Greene’s pedigree as an explosive scorer was on fully display against Brooks on Friday, as he consistently pushed the pace for athletic finishes in transition and scored in the half court with a smooth-looking mid-range pull-up.  A long, wiry athlete, the 6’2” lead guard consistently harasses opposing ball-handlers and creates havoc out front on the defensive, igniting his team’s transition offense off deflections and steals.

I, initially thought we might not go after Greene any longer.  But, I think that may change considering what many of us have witnessed in the first month of this season.

Phillip Greene (IMG High)- A long, quick athlete on the perimeter, Greene was a defensive menace on Saturday, relentlessly pressuring Milton’s group of smaller, less-athletic guards out of their comfort zones and into turnovers that ignited IMG’s transition offense.  Catching fire in the second half from behind the arc to the tune of four threes, Greene (17 points) remained a constant presence with his work ethic and playmaking ability as a disruptive lock-down defender.

I don't want to say we need him, be we can really use this kid.  We don't really have a TRUE SG after Harrison and Greene could fill that role and add depth to the point, and even play the three in a very small lineup.

He really fits into what we want to do and he'll give us another ball-handler on the floor at all times.

I agree with you, Marillac.  He fits what we wanna do, as he can get up-and-down the floor, as well as being a solid defender.  Not to mention, being a very capable outside shooter.  He and Chandler are the two kids I hope we land in the late signing period.  IMO, that would be the cherry on top of our bonanza-like recruiting class.

Greene also has something I truly like....  Intangibles.

Even watching this kid for 30 seconds it's hard to imagine he's not a top 75 ranked kid at this point.  I'm not sure what the "experts" think he's missing.  I really don't want to see this kid end up at WV or another Big East school because he could be very good and we could really use his talents to tie this roster together.  Him and Chandler would just be awesome.

I think this class needs one more legit scoring threat.  Sampson, Pelle, Polee, Pointer, and Garrett all seem like guys better suited for other areas besides carrying big portion of the scoring load.  Harkless could be that guy, but if Harrison and/or Nuri are sitting it'd be nice to pull a true scorer like Greene off the bench.  Greene looks to be able to both stroke it and shot-fake, dribble, then pullup.  That is what Lavin has been trying to install this year at least.
