Title: Jordan Improvement!!!!
Post by: hnk on March 01, 2015, 08:35:34 AM
Not to be missed three or four turnovers total in last three games....way  better shot selection...no foul trouble and good defense.  He obviously should stay but he's much improved.

He's been great last few games. Playing as a part of the team and not an individual. I think he is starting to get it now. Not every kid walks in and gets it day one, look at D'lo. Would be absolutely huge if he came back next year. Would be great for the team but I think even better for him personally. Be the man next year and then maybe make the jump.

Either he works on his ball handling and court vision skills in the offseason or he's primarily a shooting/scoring guard next year if he returns.

Every time he brings the ball up court or looks to dribble drive I cringe. He is very shaky when it comes to being a lead guard and ball handling. He's better as an off the ball player as a scorer/shooter.

With one more year, he would be the primary option and get a chance to be a veteran leader. I can't fault him if he were to go, not faulting anyone anymore after seeing Jakarr's success, but he would probably position himself better for sustained NBA success with one more year.

Don't see Jakarr as a success. He got lucky . Odds were very much against him.  Jordan leaving would be a worse one.

jakarr has a more rare skill set, hops, wingspan and speed. Guards like jordan need to hone their skills . Plus he was already labeled by some NBA scouts as an issue so he needs to stay , but like you said its always their decision.

Buzzkill!  Jakarr is doing something that only about 450 people on this planet are doing.  IMO, that's success.

Success is the wrong word. He is very succesful. My point is leaving college before you graduate when you are not projected to be drafted is not a recipe for success.

NBA teams are required to fill a roster. Sixers not going anywhere for a while. Game plan was get guys who would sign for the minimum and not just this year. They gatta strip it down. Good for Sampson it's still good money and experience. I hope he makes the best of his time.
Title: Rysheed Jordan
Post by: jsk on March 05, 2015, 12:34:53 AM
During game vs Marquette, announcer Tarik Turner made a comment regarding Jordan that was phrased in a way that said Jordan "will" return next year. It was not prefaced by "if" or "might". It seemed to indicate that he "is" returning. Any truth to that or did I hear it wrong? Tarik,, being a relative insider, may know something.. Comments?

Even if Tarik did say that, it doesn't mean that Jordan is definitely returning. So much can happen from now until the end of the season. Let's just sit back and enjoy the next few weeks. We don't get to enjoy basketball very often, and this season has turned out to be a great one. For us.

The way I look at it is like this:

He will not be drafted this year. The question is can him and his family wait another year for him to get paid to play. Because he would be looking at the D-League/Europe if he left school this year.

I caught that too.  He is close to the team...not just as an announcer, but as a friend and alum. I've seen him right behind the bench when he wasn't calling the game.  As a former tall and highly touted PG, I'm sure he has Rysheed's ear.  I think he'll be back too...staying positive.

Or that he is good enough to go pro. Double edged sword.

If there's an issue, it will be whether he comes back from Philly.  Baldi knows.

No matter what Jordan does for the remainder of the year, he is not playing himself into the first round, and possibly not even the second round.  His goal is to get that first guaranteed contract, and the 2016 draft is a perfect opportunity for that to happen.  Come back with Chris, help us land some good recruits, and lead the team to a solid year.

I heard T2 mention about Sheed coming back as well. Delighted. If he and Obekpa return it casts an entirely different light on next year.

I agree about the PG, but we have a shot Sheed stays and in the hunt for others.  Reading beteween the lines i think it's fair to say a slight lean to CO staying but it's up in the air and unknowable at this point.

No one outside of Sheed's camp thinks he is ready to or should leave.

I agree, based on what has been reported, that a pg is crucial to Diallo's recruitment.  At the same time, his game seems to project to a 4 in college and it would help tremendously if Obekpa is here to play the 5.

Would help him tremendously, but not the crucial factor in getting Diallo.

He's gonna leave if that's true

I can't help but wonder if Kris Dunn is what turned the light on for Sheed.

If you asked me last year who had a brighter future I would have said Sheed. Dunn was struggling. Injuries obviously a factor. But both players coming in at same time and Sheed was playing better even with all his flaws we knew of.

Now this year Dunn is POY in the BE in my opinion and maybe Sheed sees that he can return next year and do the same.

I actually trust him shooting a 3 more than Dee at this point. And watching the Marquette game for the first time I said to myself I really want him back next year. It looks like he has finally bought in and things are clicking.

Totally agree. That is what is in your mind and my mind let's just hope it is what is in Sheed's mind.

I) Obekpa staying should only have a positive effect on Diallo.  Diallo has carte blance at the PF spot which is exactly what he should want at the college level.  Hed start from day one and not be shoved in as a center.

2) Rysheed has no business leaving after this season.  He needs one season to improve his handle and show he's not a head case.  He can garner post-season accolades with a full season the way he's playing now.  He won't be a high draft pick because he made his bed by acting up early and causing team strife.  It hurt his stock without s doubt.  He needs a tighter handle and to show he has matured and is a leader.

3) Obekpa isn't near draftable right now with little low post defense, and no offensive game.  He's not a center in the NBA, so he has a ton of work to do on offense, gaining weight and on low post d to show he can actually play in the NBA.

Would anyone if you were a GM considering his talent and baggage draft him?I think he potentially could be a very good NBA player . If he improves his shot, which has been much better and his decision making which has been much better. I still wouldn't draft him this year.he has had great games. Also had awful games. Also had games where he didn't even show up to.

the issue w/nba is that they draft potential. and rysheed has lots. so while many say he's not ready, he can develop those skills with an nba team where he can dedicate 100% of his time.  as for the baggage,  for it to work, i think a team on the west coast would need to draft him.  sheed needs to get as far away from Philly as possible.  he needs a reality check.  he can't lean on his crew for the rest of his life.

I would take him over any pg currently on the Knicks roster.  The reality is that, imo, the off court issues will keep him from being drafted.  I hope he comes back but I could see him going the Jakarr route.  A few weeks back, I didn't think he would even get a summer team invite.
