Title: July Evaluation period...
Post by: fordham96 on July 06, 2014, 12:37:29 PM
...begins on Wednesday 7/9.  3 five day sessions.

7/9-7/13, 7/16-7/20 and 7/23-7/27.

Reebok in Philly and Hoop Group are some of the early events.

Peach Jam is the second weekend and I believe both Sampson and Briscoe will be there.

Brandon Sampson has a concussion & obviously is not playing at Reebok event in Philly this week.

I believe Diallo is in Vegas for LBJ Big Man Camp.

Good look at the main events over the next 3 weeks.

Expect the staff to be in Vegas and Philly this week:

Dinos runs a lot of AAU events out West, including the Fab 48 at Vegas this month.  He gets tight with some top kids (I believe he was tight with Amir Garrett).  He is close to Tyler Dorsey.  And he and Coach go back a ways.

I know he has been mentioned here a few times just thought it was worth pointing him out in a picture.

Apparently they have cancelled the remaining events tonight in Vegas at the LBJ Skills camp.  Not sure if it is related to his decision.

Evan Daniels
‏@EvanDaniels   Well day three of the evaluation period is pretty much a waste. Cancelled night session of LeBron. Watching one game today...

Also Isaiah Briscoe might have sustained a minor injury:

I could be wrong, but was told he was not in Philly.  Tweet noting his presence may have been an error.  Sounds like a "red eye" flight from West Coast or Vegas.

You may have been right Fordham;

"Louisiana Elite backcourt: Playing without Brandon Sampson, Louisiana Elite still had more than enough from the perimeter. Tivonte Hardy and his backcourt mate combined for 43 points, constantly putting pressure on the Carolina Wolves. They were able to knock down shots from the perimeter, make plays in transition, and drive-and-kick in the half-court all game."

Thought this was an interesting observation;

"10. Schools are trying to limit their drama: This seemed to be a common theme among schools I spoke with throughout the past couple of weeks. The term “low-maintenance” came up often, while some schools discussed how they preferred to get a commitment early as opposed to waiting for another year and holding out for someone slightly better. In another school's case, they were adjusting their entire recruiting strategy. Instead of just stockpiling talent and athleticism, they were looking for some high-academic kids and kids that would help chemistry. Talent is great; too many egos is not.

St. John’s positioned to land monster class;

Steve Lavin and Co. have earmarked 2015 as a big year, with several open scholarships to be filled. The Johnnies are in the mix with several elite prospects, most notably New Jersey point guard Isaiah Briscoe, a consensus top-20 recruit who would replace Rysheed Jordan – expected to enter the draft after his sophomore year – and Long Island big man Cheick Diallo.

Odds of landing both five-star recruits are long. Diallo also has Kansas, Iowa State and Kentucky on his list. But Briscoe is said to be intrigued by St. John’s and the possibility of playing his home games at MSG, and has St. John’s among his final seven, a list that also includes Louisville and Arizona.

Lavin has also made inroads with Louisiana shooting guard Brandon Sampson, Georgia combo guard Malik Beasley, California point guard Tyler Dorsey and Donovan Mitchell, a native of Elmsford, NY, who attends prep powerhouse Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. The St. John’s coach is known as a closer – and we’re getting into the late innings.

Hate reading these types of articles this early, unless some of these kids are going to pop right now. Have to land 2 of Briscoe, Sampson, and Diallo to be viewed as a serious program.

We need a "pied piper" situation, circa 2010 and Harkless.  One pops and it goes from there.

I hope Briscoe is that guy.      He's not going to drag his recruitment into the winter or spring, he'll pop before thanksgiving.  So hopefully he chooses to stay home, and that attracts some of these other guys.
