TOBIAS HARRIS TOUR STOP: ST. JOHNS
Harris continues college campus tour with unofficial visit to SJU
Tobias Harris checked in on St. Johns and Norm Roberts program today as he made an unofficial visit to the Queens campus. Harris also has been to West Virginia and the University of Virginia in recent days, participating in their elite camps.
Tobias came away very impressed with what coach Norm Roberts is doing at St.Johns, according to his father, Torrel Harris Sr. Tobias stated to me it looks like coach Roberts is really trying his best to get St.Johns back to the elite level, Mr. Harris informed the NBE Basketball Report.
St. Johns and West Virginia are far from the only Big East schools interested in the skills of the 2010 elite prospect. The 6-foot-8, 215 lb small forward from Half Hollows Hills West High School on Long Island (NY) received phone calls from Connecticut, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Louisville, Rutgers and Providence in addition to St. Johns and West Virginia shortly after college coaches were allowed to call on 2010 recruits beginning June 15th. Virginia, Maryland, NC State, Wake Forest, Florida, South Carolina, Texas and Memphis also placed calls as soon as they could.
But getting Tobias on campus was definitely a positive step for St. Johns and they strengthened their position with him according to his father, The school is doing lots of construction to improve the lifestyle of the school.
And, coach Roberts and his vision for his program also impressed the Harris family. It seems like Coach Roberts has a great plan for his young team to improve each day in order for St. Johns University to get to that next level, Mr. Harris remarked.
The stop at St. Johns and the trip to WVU is all part of a Busy Summer for Harris(zagsblog.net) that has also included the stop at Virginia, an earlier stop at Kansas and, at least, planned upcoming trips to Indiana, Louisville, Marquette, Rutgers, Maryland, Florida, Connecticut, Arizona, Memphis and Syracuse.

If he's not going to upgrade his hs competition by transferring, it would certainly help his exposure if he stopped playing for his father's Unique All-Stars and played for one of NY's power programs.
It looks like this young man has transferred out of Half Hallows and moved to Long Island Lutheran..
we have no scholarships in 2010 so i'm not sure how we can get those three.
and also aren't collier/pankey at st anthony's? do you think hurley is going to steer them in a different direction?

Where does everyone get this idea that Hurley doesn't want to send player to St. John's? Because he didn't like the way they handle the Engram situation when the current staff wasn't at the University? Coach Hurley is a pretty selfless person and he would do whatever he feels is best for the kids. If St. John's is then it is, if it isn't then it isn't but I don't think he is steering them in another direction.
If St. John's was winning in the Big East again or putting guys into the league Hurley would forget things that happened really fast. He wants to send his guys to good programs to better themselves. I think the University has changed a lot for the better since the Pittsburgh scandal.
PS don't sell yourself short it was 8/19 you told us
i dont know if hes pushing the kids to SJU but i would doubt that hes strongly discouraging them from coming to queens.

Despite an Internet report saying Tobias Harris had narrowed his list to three schools, Torrel Harris says his son still has a list of about a dozen schools.
“Tobias’ list is open ONLY to his top schools,†Torrel wrote in an email. “My son likes the following schools: Tenn, UCONN, West Virginia, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, St.John’s, Virginia, Kentucky, Louisville and West Virginia.â€
The 6-foot-8 Harris was the sixth-leading scorer (13.3 ppg) at the NBA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Va., and plans to cut his list later this summer.
“At the end of the summer we will cut the list to five schools and by the end of September we will have a college decision,†Torrel said.
“When we pick our five, everybody’s going to know.â€
im very biased towards tobias...i love his game. he plays real hard till the end, even if his team is getting blown out. never gives up on defense. the few times i saw him play he was the motor for his team and made his teamamtes better, gotta love how hard he plays on both ends of the floor. his scoring ability, athletic ability, and everything goes with out saying.
