Colleges have noticed; to date Russ has offers from Big East schools Providence and St. John’s, while Rutgers and Louisville have indicated interest. Outside of the league, “Stanford, Jacksonville, Arkansas, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Rhode Island†and South Carolina, Iona, George Mason and Fordhan have either tendered scholarship opportunities or are recruiting him.
The Williamsburg (Brooklyn) resident plans to select a program that plays the “up and down game,†offers playing time, and is solid academically. Expect Russ to improve his “defense and strength†along with his jump shot at South Kent next year, development that will likely expand his already sizeable college list.

Surprise Players
Russell Smith, 5-10 (PG)
2009, Briarwood, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy
Smith has the ability to score points in bunches. He has very good range on his jumper and will connect on consecutive 3-point shots, which ignites scoring runs for his team. Though he has the size of a point guard, Smith remains in attack mode on the offensive end and seems much more comfortable when he can score the ball and not worry about initiating offense for teammates. He has good quickness and can get into the paint, but he needs to add a floater to his offensive repertoire to help him score when he gets to the paint. Smith also needs to do a better job of involving his teammates. He also has a tendency -- especially when he gets hot -- to force shots, which he will need to alleviate. Smith needs to add more strength to his small frame. He has good lateral quickness and needs to use this quickness to harass opposing ballhandlers on the defensive end.

Russ Smith and the Juice All-Stars played well again, following up the win over NJ ABC with a late comeback to defeat Team Odom LA. His school list is a long one and has plenty of time to sort things out as he moves to South Kent for next season. The schools mentioned today were Notre Dame, St. John’s, Connecticut, Louisville, Providence, Seton Hall, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Stanford, South Carolina, Central Florida, South Florida, LaSalle, George Mason and VCU.

Gotham Hoops has him going to Louisville, as has been rumored.
-
He's gonna spend a lot of time on the bench as long as Peyton Siva is there.

Louisville has had a few strikeouts and decommits the past few months, but, even after Siva leaves, they'll bring in another elite-level point guard.
