This was announced a month ago.

We have no shot. Besides Ponds not one SJ player would start for RI.

Fortunately that has flipped this year.

URI has a couple decent pieces but will go through going pains after losing almost every starter from last year’s team. Should handle them fairly easily I’d think.

That is supposed to be the closed door scrimmage. Every team is allowed one public exhibition for charity. We played that one @ Rutgers last year. Wonder if we have one lined up for this year

Keita 7-10 FG, 6 rebounds

Ponds 17 pts / 7 ast / 8 rb

Clark/Herron = 4/21 FG

FT 22 -24

I feel good

Agree
40+ from 3 on 25 attempts. I think Clark and Heron will be two of our more efficient scorers this year so the fact they went 4-21 and we were seemingly in close game is a good sign. Winning would have been nice but this is nothing but preparation for the games that count.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Of course you do.
Lost to a bad team from a low conference.

It's going to be a long year if Simon continues to put up zeros on the offensive glass. How the hell can Ponds get 3 offensive boards at 6'1 and Simon put up zeros without being read the riot act?

There are two ways to win in college basketball:  protect the ball and value each possession on both ends or create extra possessions on the glass and/or via turnover. We won't be the first kind of team so Simon better get his ass in gear and Clark too. We will lose almost every game against any decent team if those two combine for one freaking offensive rebound.

URI shot 10-17 from 3.  Same Sh*t, different year.  This is on coaching, scrimmage or not, this should be cleaned up by now.  With one big, everyone crashing, leaving guys with more space to shoot and in some cases wide open.  Only a scrimmage, but when same things happen each year, real game or not, it says alot about coaching.

It's better to lose this one.  Keeps the swelling of their heads down.

Agreed. Time to go all out in Taffner for the next 15 days. 3pt defense obviously still a concern. Shamorie only 8 shots, working on his selection, dishing? I like the minutes distribution, but would like to see LJF with a little more burn. Maybe his technical foul kept him out for a stretch.

Definitely concerning. Still a scrimmage but it's a scrimmage that you treat as a real game as evidenced by the minutes distribution. Hopefully this is the clunker for the season that they got out of their system now

Some notable things from the box score.

- Ponds 6 turnovers
- Simon 3-4 from 3. Did not officially attempt a 2 point FG
- Williams only 5 mins
- Ponds led the team in rebounds
- 47-47 in the 2nd half. Super high scoring half
- 5 Technical fouls given out. Must have gotten chippy at some point. Hopefully not to the point of last night's Rockets/Lakers game
- Almost identical rebounding numbers

How can you get a technical foul in a scrimmage?

Mid season usually equates to major losing streak. Lucky for coach Mullin’s it’s early. At least it was close. 85 points to a mid major. Trust the process!

A few excellent points

-This is a new team. Experienced or not, they need some time to play together and to learn how to defend as a team. That said, other Simon, we are not returning one consistent defender.

-Assuming that URI is shit because they lost seniors is bullshit. They were a tourney team last year. A good one, and if any team should be assuming that another one sucks before they’ve played a game it’s certainly not ours.

-Frontcourt scoring. From the box score, the most surprising lines are Keita and Heron. Thing is, we should have every expectation that Heron will be fine, because he’s done it before and with consistency. Keita has not. He isn’t expected to give us more than 2 to 4 points per game and 5 to 6 boards. If he can score, the team can be better than we thought.
