Mets left-hander Johan Santana undergoes successful knee surgery@
NEW YORK - Mets left-hander Johan Santana has had arthroscopic surgery on torn cartilage in his left knee.
Santana tore his meniscus before his final start but still pitched a shutout last Saturday on short rest against the Florida Marlins to temporarily keep the Mets' playoff hopes alive.
The team said in a release Wednesday that Santana is expected to be ready for spring training.
He went 16-7 with a 2.53 ERA after coming over from the Minnesota Twins in February in a blockbuster trade. The two-time AL Cy Young Award winner is in the first season of a US(Canadian) $137.5-million, six-year contract.

impressive...too bad the whole lineup fell asleep.

Should be interesting who gets the Cy Young...Santana or Lincecum.

IMO its between Lincecum and Santana.  Wins for starting pitchers are overrated when it comes to the CY Young...lack of run support and bad bullpen doesn't say how well the starting pitching did.   Santana slight edge in ERA and WHIP...Lincecum 60 more strikeouts and to pitched for a bad team.

EXACTLY!  Webb won 22, but ridiculous run support and great relief pitching.  Both Lincecum and Santana could have won that or more with better help.  Santana really only had one bad game all year.  He put his team in a position to win every other game.  How many times did he pitch a wonderful game only to see the lead blown by the bullpend or the offensive score less than three runs?

the giants scored two runs or less in 51 of their games this year...that's almost a third.  put lincecum, cain or sanchez on a high powered team and they completely dominate.
