St. John's finished in a third-place tie with Louisville and Syracuse in the Big East this season, but the Johnnies were the only one of the three who didn't get the double-bye into the quarterfinals of the conference tournament, which begins Tuesday at the Garden.

Looking back, it was a combination of three losses that cost them - one to Syracuse at the Garden, one at Louisville and another, last week, at Seton Hall. If the 15th-ranked Johnnies (20-10) had prevailed in any of those, they'd be in the quarters for the first time since 2003. But as fate would have it, the tourney bracket offers all sorts of opportunities for redemption.
