These are exciting times for the STJ basketball program. With fox starting up their sports network and in need of programing, and now UA getting into the fray and in need of programs to sponsor, being in the largest media market, we are poised to becoming both companies flagship program to promote their brand. We're talking about highly capitalized companies who will be throwing plenty of it our way and no one better to take advantage of this opportunity than Coach Lavin. He said this was a sleeping giant, now I believe the whole basketball community will start to see it as well.

The move from STJ to SJU is official, love it.  Although now I have to change my username ;)

Now they HAVE to get rid of that stupid logo!

Is there any chance we change our name to the Red Men?  With no Indian logo or mascot or anything like that.  Just a team that wears red.  Make it two words to avoid any confusion regarding the Indians.  The rumors about the name change, getting rid of the Thunderbird, going back to SJU and the uni's looking like the 80's unis have me thinking this may be an actual possibility.

I'll probably sound like an idiot worrying about this, but what does this do for our twitter presence as well our #stjbb?

are we now #sjubb or does St. Joes have that?

Also, there has been a lot of confusion regarding St. Joseph's allegedly trademarking SJU and that being the reason we were not allowed to use it.  St. John's actually has the SJU trademark for merchandise.  St. Joe's registered the domain name SJU.edu and St. John's/Nike made the decision to switch to STJ to avoid the confusion of people searching for SJU then going to the St. Joe's website.

This is an interesting article that the Torch had in 2006 regarding the issue . http://www.torchonline.com/uncategorized/2006/04/26/sju-vs-stj-new-logo-new-look-2/

Interesting.  So this was Nike's big idea, the STJ thing?  Glad we switched to Under Armour.  Love that we are SJU again!!  Now if only we could bring back the Redmen, I'd be thrilled.  No need for Native mascots or anything.  Johnny Thunderbird is fine with me.  I won't get my hopes up, but would love to get back to our roots.

I refer to them as the "Johnnies" most of the time now anyway.  The " Johnnies of St. John's" sounds better than the other way around..
