What staff? The wait staff at the local diner. This kid is blowing up and will be wanted by every school in the country and we know how that usually turns out for us.
-
Give him the keys to the sf spot. Same goes with Muhammad at Sg. Need a big 18' class. This kid is certainly a stud. If we can get our shit together with this 17' class and grab a guy or two and have a good year, it can help a bit for us.

Don't expect a commitment from Little. The best we can do this weekend is possibly get a commitment from Keita and knock the socks off Little, and put ourselves in a better position with him than we are at the moment.

“The trip was great,” 1 Family hoops program director Brad Augustine, who joined Little on the trip from Florida, told RedStormReport.com. “Obviously being able to be in New York City, it’s such an amazing place and such a huge stage. So, got to see the Garden and all the history that comes with that. The opportunity to play there is something that’s special.
“Then got to go over on campus — I think the best thing was got a chance to sit down with coach (Chris) Mullin for a little while and just listen to their vision for him and what he can look like at St. John’s. It was a lot of fun and a great experience.”

Nassir Little has been tremendous today. Elite finisher around the basket and an already multiple position defender. Big time 2018 prospect
-
Remember when there were stories including by Rivals just a few weeks ago just as Little was set to visit SJU that seemed to fail to mention SJU as a serious contender for Nassir?
https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/nbpa-thursday-afternoon-standouts-and-notes
It has been a whirlwind of a spring for Nassir Little, one of the top stock boosters this spring. A 6-foot-7 small forward that can play multiple positions and on either end of the floor, Little made a few big time finishes on Thursday morning. However, he was still more than happy to defend guys much bigger than him in the post and also scrap for the loose ball chance.
Tossing in 12 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks, things remain wide open with Little on the recruitment front. Two weeks ago, he visited St. John’s as the Red Storm have nudged their way heavily into the mix as a suitable landing spot for him, though others including Georgia Tech, Florida, Miami, UNC, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State and Louisville remain in the mix.
-
On the recruiting trail a huge group of schools continue to make Little a priority.
"St. John's, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Florida, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and some others," said Little.
About his recent trip to St. John's, Little said, "They play at Madison Square Garden and I got to see that which was nice. We got to see all of the things that most people don’t get to see when they go there so that was pretty cool because there is a lot of history there."
He continued about the Red Storm, "It is a small campus, but it is very nice. The thing I liked the best is there is a place on campus where you can see the 9/11 Memorial. I have a close relationship with the staff. Coach (Chris) Mullin likes my game and he feels like I can come in and play immediately."

It probably doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, as I've said previously when it comes to the 247's "Crystal Ball." But, when Andrew Slater and Jerry Meyer has something to say, then one should at least lend an ear.
They both currently has Little going to St. John's. I'd temper any enthusiasm 'til he actually signs, but still good to see Slater and Meyer "visualizing" things shaping up for us.

This time last year, Collin Sexton was in the middle of his ascent into superstardom. A top-100 prospect in the spring, Sexton evolved into a top-50 recruit and then finally settled into the argument as the best within his position on the floor. Nassir Little is experiencing a similar storyline a year later, having cemented his argument to be a five-star recruit.
One of the most watched prospects this past week, Little has become a priority recruit for the top programs nationally. While they have not offered yet, UNC began to show attention while head coaches from Arizona, Kansas, St. John's, Georgia Tech, Florida, Miami and Florida State watched Little during the first evaluation period. Little will visit Georgia Tech at the end of August for his first official visit and while where he plays in college is still in question, what is not is the fact that Little is now heavily in contention for the best small forward prospect in the 2018 class.

Is he actually the best SF in the 2018 class? That seems like a stretch
-
Just got offered by Ohio St.
-
www.zagsblog.com/2017/07/18/2018-wing-na...coaches-live-period/
Playing with 1Family on the Adidas Gauntlet this spring, Little currently holds offers from nearly 30 schools including Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Auburn, Clemson, Creighton, Illinois, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Missouri, NC State, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh, SMU, South Carolina, St. John’s, Stanford, among others. He has also received interest from schools such as Duke and Kentucky.

Nassir Little is the most urgent ranking adjustment coming out of this period. Easily a top 10 prospect in 2018. Total package for a 3/4.
-
IMO, we need this recruitment to end within the next month or two or certainly during the early, signing period to have any chance to land Little. If it lingers into the spring, then it'll probably be strictly a battle of the "one-and-done" schools (Kentucky, Duke, and Kansas), along with a couple of other "blue-blood" schools in Arizona and, possibly, UNC, and the "Sunshine State" schools (Florida, Florida State, and Miami).
I believe any other schools outside of those mentioned won't stand a chance or will already have been eliminated, if this goes into April or May '18.
NASSIR LITTLE NEEDS A BUMP
It’s quite possible that no prospect in the 2018 class is being as heavily recruited as Little. Because of his talent level and how accessible he is for coaches, he still has schools all over the country feeling like they have a shot to sign him. Head coaches from Arizona, Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and Miami watched him at different point this weekend with Mike White and Josh Pastner being the regulars.
The reason he’s become such a hot recruit is simple. He’s a 6-foot-6 wing with elite athleticism and a motor that doesn’t stop. His jump shot looks as strong as it has ever been. While his handle could be an area for improvement, he’s efficient with it and has some moves in his repertoire that NBA players don’t have. Defensively, he’s locked in and he’s great on the boards. This weekend he looked like a top 10 prospect in the 2018 class.[/i]

2. Which player is the most talked about among college coaches?
Dan McDonald: This one is easy. Every coach in the building, whether they were recruiting him or not, wanted to talk about Nassir Little. He's become an elite, can't-miss prospect. His strong, athletic body at 6-foot-6 combined with his overall skill-set have coaches thinking he'll be an NBA player before long. Mike White and Josh Pastner were following him around most of the weekend. Sean Miller, Chris Mullin, Roy Williams and Jim Larranaga made appearances at his games as well. Coaches talk about not only how great of a prospect he is, but also wanted to speculate on where he might end up.

I also wouldn't expect to beat out UNC, but for some reason (IMO) they aren't as much a concernment as Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and, in some ways, Arizona. The one-and-done factories and the perceived one-and-done spot in Arizona's case.

Nothing we can do but continue to pursue as well have. Matt is a beastly recruiter. Our school name will not beat some of those big names. All comes down to relationships. We shall see what turns up. We might lose out to a big money school. But this kid is special and will make NBA money in a year or two, no matter where he goes.
-
Not that it matters but since UNC offered a lot of the crystal ball predictions swung from us to them (not that it matters). Seemed like a few weeks ago we were in great shape with him. Are we fading with him right now with UNC, Arizona and possibly other big schools making him a priority?

Slater changed his crystal ball pick for Little to Arizona tonight
Those damn balls

Duke offered Little today
Yikes

All that's missing is Kentucky and he will have offers from all the 4 main blue bloods, Duke, Kansas, UNC and UK.

Haha!
It'll have to be an extremely, unique situation for us to pull off this recruitment. Frankly, I'm not seeing it at this juncture.

What will be your thoughts when he schedules a official visit to Queens next month?

That he wants to meet with a Hall of Famer and see NYC?

Let's lock up Luther.

Will be great but as you know that means little. We aren't quite there yet when it comes to competing with the blue bloods.
-
We should be in his final 3-4.
Arizona scares me. Sean Miller hasn't broken thru to the Final 4 but he is right there as a recruiter with Cal and Coach K. Hard to believe after landing a stud pg Brandon Williams they also land Jahvon Quinerly at the same position. They have Shaq's son, they are right there with Bol Bol.
-
Great effort by the staff, but this kid blew up too much. Blue blood or home team Gators.

The savior of the program? Some never learn.

Nassir Little @2ez_nassie
I'll be releasing my top 5 schools today
any predictions on his top 5?
-
It's crazy that we were possibly favorites a few weeks ago but with all these huge offers he's gotten I wouldn't be too shocked if we weren't in his top 5
-
Similar to Luther, this makes sense as he schedules his 5 Fall official visits. Word here has been that the staff was working on a September official, lets hope that's true and his AAU coach had some input on the list bc he certainly likes our staff and pitch. Prayers are up!
-
Nassir Little @2ez_nassie
I'll be releasing my top 5 schools today
any predictions on his top 5?
UNC, Duke, Arizona, Florida, and SJU.
But, not gonna lie I'm pretty nervous I can see us being out and GT/Kansas/Louisville being in.

That is exactly my guess except since he already has an official scheduled to GT I would think he would include GT (and take UNC out). Although he may cancel the G-tech visit.

Duke won't make the list imo.

You maybe right but I find it hard to believe the day after Duke offers he puts out a final 5 and leaves them off. But again I have seen stranger things.

Andy Slater has an interview with Little today, interesting since he is about to cut:
http://247sports.com/Article/Complete-Package-Catching-Up-With-Top-Ten-Nas-Little-Arizona-UNC-105950133
For better or worse?
Do you want to go over the older ones as well that are doing a good job?
Obviously, Georgia Tech's doing great. Miami, Virginia Tech...
For better or worse, St. John's has been attributed to you a lot.
Yeah, yeah, St. John's. There's just so much. I feel like right now, I should have the same ones and stuff.

Gotta be for worse no? Basically forgot about us lol.

Posted this in the wrong thread earlier then deleted it. But heard SJU did not make it...
-
And yes for the record I am a bit shocked by this news as he talked to the staff regularly...
-
Arizona, Duke, UNC, GT and Miami
-
I guess it was silly for us to think we could compete with the blue bloods in the first place
-
Arizona, Duke, UNC, GT and Miami
3 suprises; no SJU and no UF. And no Oregon, I heard late they were likely to make cut.
-
Kids these days have no originality.
I can't blame them at all but damn.
-
Duke offers yesterday yet we were there with him since he wasn't on the 5-star radar. Shitskrewski offers 12 hours ago and they're in. It sucks, but we move on... kids are fickle.

Matt A just tweeted:
"No one ever wants to hear it but recruiting is very fluid. We are in a very good spot. One door closes and another door opens."

Yeah the kid fits the Duke profile to a T. Top 10-20 caliber kid with great upside, great attitude and great academics. That is who they offer.
4 ACC schools and Arizona. God bless him.
Move on.

He's right and Matt did great work here. Just wasn't in the cards. Evan Daniels tweeted out in July that there is an unwritten rule during the live period that coaches privately hope their targets DON'T do well during July. Makes it easier to recruit them. That is probably what SJU needed with Little. This kid blew up like no one else.

Or maybe kids don't need to waste coaches time either. I'm sure Matt understands all of this, but it's obvious at this point, that the kid was never even considering us.

Surprised Georgia Tech and Miami made his final cut.
Would've thought that would be Florida and SJU.
Not that we wouldve gotten him in end though.

Yeah but my guess is if he did not become a top 10 kid in a span of about 2 months SJU would probably still be there. Who knows.

Imho, we were there before everybody wanted him. We should have made the cut at minimum. No respect...

This was Mullin's introduction to battling for the elites as a rebuilding program. For a man of his stature to spend nearly an entire Summer watching the same kid across the country only to not even have a hat at the presser table has to be disappointing, humbling and inspiring for him. This regime still has a ton to prove to get to this level.
Nas was literally the hottest prospect in the country for the entire AAU circuit, credit to Abs finding him early but there was no stopping this momentum. Without winning on the court and taking down the likes of Ratface & Duke in the Garden these kids won't buy in, and why should they? This Fall will be no easier with Luther. We have to give him undivided attention in advance of the Fall Signing Period.
This rejection was like a bandaid, quick and painful but easy to get through. Luther is another story, he is a must get for our future.

Look for St. John's to sign 1-2 kids early, keep open a few scholarships late. Always will be involved with transfers. #sjubb
In order to sign a really good class of at least 3 guys AND keep a multiple scholarships open late we would have to have 1-2 guys leave the program early after this upcoming season and that's not counting Lovett.

Its tough that we were on him a while and Duke comes in last minute and makes the cut and we don't. We may nab 1 5 star which would be great, but we can't compete w the blue bloods at this time in general. He would be doing us no favors in keeping us on his list, if not interested. This way staff can put effo t into other recruits.

Agree. This is far less painful than getting strung along through the fall and thinking you're in the mix up to decision day and then watch him put another program's cap on. We've had our fair share of those and those are way worse
-
I continue to say the landscape of college basketball has changed in the last 20-25 years. Heck, more like in the last 15 years.
We could've landed a top 10 prospect like Little during the time frame I listed above. Even, though he's outside of the Johnnies' backyard. Most (not all) top 25 kids nowadays are too enamored with only a handful of programs, and it typically takes a unique situation for other programs to land those type of players in this current landscape of college hoops.
I doubt we land Felipe Lopez, Zendon Hamilton, Ron Artest, and Erick Barkley, if any of those players was high school today. It'll take a few years of success before we can land those types (particularly, anyone outside of the NYC/NJ area).
Regardless, I'm not sweating it. Keep pushin' and find the next best available player.
-
Let's be honest. We need a good x and o guy on the sideline (mike rice... etc) and another player getter. Matty A works hard and forms good relationships but we need a closer.
-

I'm all for it. Whatever can make us better.

The head coach is usually the closer.

Listen, I thought it was a long shot to land the kid regardless. Just thought it was bogus we didn't make his top 5 having worked on him the hardest and earliest.

He identified a stud before a bunch of other programs, developed a relationship with the studs family and handlers, and had the stud interested in a program that's won 22 games in two years until the very end. Maybe not great, but pretty good.
-
This kid had basically every offer from all the blue bloods except Kentucky so hard to be surprised he didn't include us. Have to think from the kids point of view. We have been bad the last few seasons and we need to win some games and make the NCAA tournament before we have a shot at kids like this who aren't local.

He never committed anywhere to "reopen" his recruitment. Unless, you're saying he wants to add more schools to his list. Duke and UNC are still on his list, unless those two schools have decided to back away from him since his AAU coach is deeply involved in this mess.

There's a chance Little may not ever play a minute of college basketball.

@DraftExpress
The director of Nassir Little's AAU team is currently in jail, and there's a decent chance Little is among those named in FBI/DOJ complaint.

Two NCAA coaches involved in the recruitment of Nassir Little told me they had backed off this week as it became clear he was Arizona-bound.

Little is believed to be one of the unnamed players in the complaint, perhaps player #12.
Good luck having anyone touch him now.

UNC should've already been on probation of some kind. Oh, well!
