@AdamZagoria: St. John's coach Chris Mullin offered 6-10 2018 Naz Reid of Roselle Catholic today, per his coach. Good idea, kid is a beast.
-
Well damn. Can't say Mullin will slowplay guys. haha

Nice!

Working Jersey!!

All these guys are guys that should have been offered a long, long time ago, including Alkins, Reid, Gibbs etc... Local coaches not going to say we aren't coming after the best in the trim state.

Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting
The real story with Sports U revolves around three very promising 2018 prospects that moved up from the 15U to 17U level over the weekend. Power forward Nazreon Reid, small forward Louis King and Jahvon Quinerly all show great promise. The most well known of the group, Reid is 6-foot-8 and already built like a player who is a few years older than a kid finishing his freshman year of high school. He is athletic in the open floor, will rebound and shows some promise as a mid-range shooter. A smooth 6-foot-6 swingman, King lacks the strength and experience to do much playing up two levels, but his upside is immense. He has a good looking shooting stroke, is very fluid and recently picked up a scholarship offer from Syracuse. Quinerly is a six-footer with some quickness who likes to probe the lane and was very judicious with his decision making playing up.

Naz Reid on his visit to SJU:
Having never been to Queens to visit St. John's before, Reid said that the visit was a chance for him to see the campus as well as get a feel for new Red Storm head coach Chris Mullin and his coaching staff and he said he enjoyed everything he saw.
"I had never been there before but it went great," Reid said. "The campus seemed nice and we got to play around a bit and talk. The coaches seemed really kind and genuine too which is something you really look for."
Reid said that he got the opportunity to speak to Mullin and his assistants and that the conversations revolved around what they see in him as a player like now, and what they feel they could offer him going forward.
"They were telling me how good I can be and how good I am already now," Reid said about the talks. "They also went in to how they feel they can help me improve as a player."
Coming out of the visit Reid said he came away impressed with everything he saw and that St. John's did leave a mark on him, especially Mullin who he says as an NBA Hall of Famer could help him achieve everything he wants.
"Coach Mullin achieved everything I want to achieve so I absolutely think he could help me a lot," Reid admitted.

mtc - he does. The time for burnout is inevitable because he does so much. His fundraising abilities are impressive too. Nothing lasts forever. I'm in year 2 of my 5-7 year prediction for the NBA return.

I'm with you. He'll wait till he's aggravated with the recruits or fans at UK, and then leave for the right NBA job.
Donovan hit the jackpot last year though. Tough to find a better situation than that.

I don't watch the NBA until around this time of year these days. I completely forgot about DonoVan leaving for OKC, and was very impressed with their coach and how much respect he got from the players. I kept thinking "who is this guy?" Then it finally hit me that it was Billy Donovan. Great situation for him.

For this year yes. For next year, assumign Durant sticks around (likely will for at least 1 season). After next year, all bets are off with Russ, Ibaka and probably Durant again all as FAs though....

I think to get a kid like this, the program needs to show that Mullin's vision is working. Recruiting to date has been very good, but in order for it to be great, the kids need to see what kind of program they are joinig. Nova got names like Reynolds and Brunson because those kids knew what they were signing up for.

SJU competing with Rutgers for Reid??? Ha ha...:
St. John's is currently competing with Rutgers, where he took an unofficial visit last weekend, which coach Dave Boff described as a fun experience for the high school junior. Syracuse, UConn, Kentucky, Kansas, Seton Hall and a bunch more are in on him right now as well, with the list continuously growing.
A lot of teams are actively recruiting him tough, but St. John's is right there. "St. John's has been recruiting him hard," coach Boff said. "Coach [Chris] Mullin has been in, as has Matt [Abdelmassih] a couple of times. St. John's is certainly a school he is interested in."

Really hoping we can get Naz. Nazreon Reid breaks down the latest with his recruitment - Plans on visiting two high major schools soon
http://www.madehoops.com/news_article/show/736217?referrer_id=1272156
Three factors will play a huge role in Reid’s decision.
“The first thing that I will base my eventual decision off of will be education,” he said. “Coaching and team chemistry will also be big factors in my recruitment.”

This is the guy we need and I'm sure Matt A is gonna work his ass off to get him. People feel he may stay local, but its still early. Unfortunately he's only a junior, so we need to look for some type of grad transfer that's a decent post rebounder/scorer from some mid major team for next year to be better than this one.

IMO Reid might be most important player in the class to land. Guy looks like an Ochefu-type and we'd be a big contender in the league with a guy like him. Fingers crossed.

That is fair, and fwiw I loved ochefu and had hoped Sima would be that for us as an upperclassmen. I just think Reid is more finesse and much more skilled than him, especially at this age.

A lot of rumblings about that group for a long time. A lot of local teams have tried to pouch a number of times and for good reason....They are really good players.
I'm not a fan of Jeremy and he tends dive in head first without knowing all the facts. Tends to sensationalize as he did here by saying the kids are leaving Under Armour as if they are contracted players.
They are both playing on Adidas Path 2018 which is a team comprised of players from multiple travel teams that they will take over to Euro Camp which is a great opportunity for those young men.

Brown and Reid are both going to be tough but Paultzman is right they seem to be much tighter with Moses. Either way even if they made his top 10 I would not care much. Top 10s are a joke, nobody believes he is seriously considering all 10. Always wake me up when they have a top 3 or 4 and SJU is in it.

How is this not a colossal failure after the countless amount of supporting quotes from Reid himself in to the 2+ years wasted on HS/AAU visits?
Since Day1 of the Mullin regime Naz has been near priority #1 alongside Luther. IMO this is the equivalent to losing out on Luther. To not even make his top 10 just adds to the disgrace that has been the 2017 recruiting season.
The Jessica Turberry months were agonizing enough. Not picking up 1 JUCO to next years potent lineup over the Spring Signing period has been infuriating, in accordance we then lose Malik and Darien from last years roster and now this. The pressure to land Sid is at a all time high. Earn your pay raise Abs, this 3 month period has been simply inexcusable. Our momentum is at the lowest its been since Lavs left in March of 2015.
Moses isn't HALF the player that Naz is. Not even Top10? I'm at a loss right now, others should feel the same.

Don't understand why you're so upset? Kid's obviously a sissy who couldn't take the pressure of playing in NYC. Let him go to North Carolina or Kansas or some other backwater and good riddance.

If we aren't getting him then what's the difference in not making his top 10. If we had no shot he did us a favor by allowing us to move onto other targets. I have said this a ton on this board but until you win some games I don't see how you can possibly convince a top 10 kid to come here. Winning this season is so important.

Well than I guess he doesn't want to see Matt, Mo and the gang.
The intriguing guy on 2018 is Little. Staff is really pushing on that kid. Dying to see where SJU stands with him.
My nephew plays with Moses, that ship has sailed.

Yea I think Paultz was saying we had a better shot with Naz then Moses not too long ago. We aren't getting either it seems. Time to get a couple new big man targets for '18

Maybe it was Braziller who said that, remember reading it. Apologies.

More important is landing Sid Wilson. He would have been a big pickup for the 18' class. If we can land him a year earlier it's every bit as good. Some ships sail... we definitely need another ace recruiter. Look at schools like Zona that have Pasternak and Book. That said, plenty of time to have an excellent 18' class regardless of Reid.

I'd love a grad transfer big. But would certainly take a quality big who has to sit a year.

We had two ace recruiters in Matt and Slice, but Mullin whacked Slice and we are still paying him.

Ya but Matt is an alumn

Your right. You should recruit for a D1 team. Just call them because you got the answers and you can help. You just got to Get top 50 talent (spread over 350 teams) but stay away from the one and dones because it will effect continuity. But those 3 star kids will take too long to develop and may leave though. So that leaves the 4 star kids. Piece of cake. Go get 'um killer.
Ya, it's an impossible job. Don't know how 8 of 10 BE teams manage to do it.

Some girl he's acquainted with is going to LSU. Reid's recruitment could get wacky.

Naz cuts his list to 7
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Nazreon Reid jumped into the high school ranks as a well-established name and is now cemented as a five-star prospect. A relatively skilled center that can be dominant around the basket, Reid recently took the next step toward a college commitment.
Reid narrowed his college list down to a group of seven: Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Seton Hall and UCLA.
“I just feel like, at each school, I can be successful," he said. "After I leave, the fan base is still going to be there, the coaches will treat me like family, and I can come back and get my grades. Everybody treats me like family, which is a great route to have. They all have the style of play that I want.
“Eventually I will cut it down some more but that is where I am at right now.”
Reid has struck up a relationship with his travel teammate, Jahvon Quinerly, as the two have played together for a handful of years now. Kansas, UCLA, Arizona and Seton Hall can be found on each of their lists, and the idea of playing college ball together remains in mind.
“Definitely, I feel like we are one of the best duos to play AAU,” he said. “We are looking to do that, too, but if we don’t, we still are brothers and love each other.
“We talk about it all the time.”
WHAT’S NEXT?
Reid has already visited UCLA and Seton Hall in recent weeks as he has two others in mind that he would like to complete before the travel season comes around.
“Next week, I am going to try to go to LSU and the week after, I am going to Louisville,” he said.
RIVALS’ REACTION
Reid is the type of center that can play in various lineups where he can extend the defense with the perimeter jumper, is an excellent passer out of the high post and has super soft touch on the finish within the lane.
Thanks to his skillset and physical traits, Reid is one of the more college-ready players. All seven schools sit in a good spot, though LSU and Kentucky have gained the most traction of late.

No idea where this kids lands but if he is really looking to go with his friend, why not do it locally at SHU...
Look at the success this current group of local kids is having at SHU.... Big East Tourney title, 2 NCAA tournaments and looking to be a Top 15 team as Seniors...
These kids will probably go away but I hope they stay home and get it done locally...

What friend is at Seton Hall? Or, were you referring to Quinerly or Quickley?
I said a couple months ago that he has a girlfriend who'll be attending LSU, and that's probably the allure to the Bayou.
I'd rather Reid go elsewhere than Seton Hall. But, that's just me.
-
It looks like package deal for Reid and Quinerly to Zona. Add O'Neal and Sean Miller is doing work.

LSU it is...
