We have offered. Joel Berry is a McD AA. Henderson seems to be a late bloomer from a solid AAU program. Scored 24 & 44 in games prior to last night.
@LHPS_athletics: Boys basketball wins district semis over Jones, 80-56. Jay Henderson scores 25, Jaren Lewis 16, and Joel Berry 14. Finals Fri vs Atlantic.

Why wouldn't he want to be on a championship ballclub???

So you're saying we have no chance. :)

Henderson had 15 points, on way to regionals now. NC bound Berry can light it up.
@ChrisBoyleDBNJ: But, LHP was too strong. @JoelBerryII had game-high 31 points (six 3s). @jaren_lewis added 16. @jsmoove_10 had 15 for Highlanders (23-4).
-
Story on game noted above. Henderson had three 3s.

My understanding is Jay likes us a lot, but staff waiting to see how things shake out a bit;
@LHPS_athletics: Boys take down Holy Trinity 74-58. Joel Berry with 26, Jay Henderson 20, and Marc Epstein chipped in 14. Region final Friday, 7pm, @ LHP!

Jay Henderson will visit SJU soon. (Solid information.)I think he is one of those solid four year players we need, plus he can shoot.

Is this kid athletic at all or a max hooper 2.0?
-
Looks to be more athlete than shooter based on highlights I've seen
-
Have never seen him live, but from what I have seen on tapes, etc. he can score and hit some threes this year in key games this season. His team, with the AA going to NC, Berry, won State Championship, so he seems to have a decent upside. He also ran with good AAU teams in Fl. We'll see.
Btw, Dayton was & still may be interested in him. Good enough for them, good enough for us I think.
-
He would be an excellent addition, time to build a Jay Wright type roster rather than a Calipari-light roster

Agree, he looks like a fine prospect and in addition, we simply need more talent on this team. Need capable bodies.
-
I really like what I've read and seen in video's from this kid. Has the potential to have a decent impact as a freshman and also be the replacement for D'Angelo after that. Seems to be a volume shooter, where some nights will be better than others. But he also appears to be able to finish at the rim.
-
Any update? Would love to add this kid and bring him along slowly.
-
Will be playing with NY panthers in Pittsburgh St. John's will be in to see him
-
Was told this weeks ago. This is ok. He may help us down the road, depending on 15 recruiting success.
@NYPost_Brazille: I'm told St. John's likes Florida's Jay Henderson, but he may prep. #sjubb
-
Not sure if he is visiting SJU, but his tweet yesterday;
@jsmoove_10: Headed to New York!!✈️✈️
-
Perhaps St. John's is feeling that Mason is not happening, and they'd still like to bring in someone else. If he's a legit 6'4/6'5 I'm all for bringing him in. We need a different look at SF in case Pointer doesn't perform well.
-
@NYPost_Brazille: Florida wing Jay Henderson tells me he plans on taking an unofficial visit to St John's this week. In city visiting family. #sjubb

More likely laying the groundwork for recruiting or potentially recruiting him for 2015.
If they wanted him for this year they would have made this an official.

Prep school likely.
-
question. why go to prep school and then leave early? If sampson went to junior college, he would have graduated college atleast
-
@NYPost_Brazille: Florida wing Jay Henderson visited St John's unofficially Monday and said he loved it. #sjubb
-
Paultz, still think he preps? Or, in light of Lavin's tweet, might Henderson be part of the 2014 class?

It looks like he will be part of class from SL's tweet. Redshirt?
I like his upside & fact he is a good student & four year player. That said, IMO he needs more seasoning & is not solution to improving perimeter play next year. Just not ready.
-
Heard yesterday that he will likely prep after all. We'll see.
-
Not sure where we are with him, but he seems to enjoy NYC;
@jsmoove_10: The big bro fatjoe invited me to play on his summer league team in the Tri State Classic! #NYC #TS #OE… http://t.co/A3zgsEFb9I (http://t.co/A3zgsEFb9I)

Acording to the other board Jay Henderson is a Johhny as a walk on. If so, adds nice depth with no tradeoff on a scholarship.

I saw that also, any one have any clue whats going on with him? is he 2014 or 2015?

Must be 2014, would make no sense to be a walk on if he had another year to improve his stock. Good get IMO. Worst case he is a quality practice player.
-
From a talent perspective, isn't this guy considered to be way better than your typical walk on?
-
This is a very interesting move for sure. With Stewart, Henderson, Ndiaye and Lipscomb we have a pretty solid stable of walkons.
-
he changed his twitter page to " plays for St John's" , seems official to me :)
-
Does anyone know...is he eligible? maybe not so had to be a walk on for now...just speculating....if it were official woouldn't there be a press release.....
-
Does a walkon only become eligible after enrolling at the school and is school prohibited from any release until enrolled?

It's a good stable but with the whole backcourt leaving the question is whether we have some contributors there. From what I've seen on film Henderson fills that bill while conserving a ship. A no lose situation to me..

Do we have any ships left for '14?
Maybe Jay was offered a scholarship in '15 if he walks-on this year.
-
I would love to have this kid redshirt this year. A year of working out and practicing with this veteran team can do wonders in the future. Same with Stewart.
If crgreen was around he would be telling us of different past players Lavin had do this :/

I wonder if Lipscomb and Joey De La Rosa are on scholarship.
-
@NYPost_Brazille: Jay Henderson will be indeed walking on at St. John's, source tells me, along with Myles Stewart. #sjubb
-
If he's walking on that's great news. And credit where it's due if it's true. Kid gets a chance to show what he can do, and then who knows, maybe he takes over for Harrison in 2015?
-
Lipscomb sat out last year, good bet he is on scholarship this year.
-
is this guy any good?

Yep, we'd know all about Jay once cr broke it down...
