James Padgett, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound senior power forward from Brooklyn Lincoln who plays alongside Lance Stephenson, visited Maryland over the weekend.

“I would say it was a fair visit,” Padgett told TerrapinTimes.com.

Next up for Padgett is an official to Pittsburgh this weekend. The Panthers recently got a commitment from 6-8 PF Dante Taylor.

Providence and St. John’s are also in the mix, and the Johnnies are trying to set up a visit.

so i'm going to go out on a limb and say he's not going to go to maryland...

I agree that does not sound positive for the Terps

I hope Padgett (6-7, 220) advisers are looking at the glut of sophomores, freshmen & incoming freshmen forwards Pitt. now has, I doubt he is still an option for Pitt after the Richardson signing

Class of 07
DeJuan Blair   6-7 265

Class of 08
Dwight Miller   6-8 230

Class of 09
Darnell Dodson   6-7   215
J.J. Richardson   6-7   235
Dante Taylor      6-8   230

I think it is down to SJU & Frias

Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

Don't expect Padgett to stay in NY.

at the bottom of the Zags post on Lance's visit it says that Padgett had an in-home with the staff on Monday.  No details though.

An earlier poster who has seen Padgett play said he wasnt an upgrade over Evans/Coker.
He seems small for a BE PF (6'7 210 lb)

If not, save the scholarship !!

He sounds like a borderline 2/3 star player !

We have a nice nucleus-
We should use last for a 09 stud only, or save for 2010- pass

James may still have some growth left in him as he just turned 17 in August.  He's a kid that already shows the poise to score in traffic and the ability to finish with either hand.  At a time when college teams have trouble finding polished post guys, he needs to be considered.  Any Big East team that gets him will have to make a projection about how his body will finish developing. Not just getting taller but getting stronger also. With respect to knowing how to play he's very much ahead of where Evans and Coker were as high school seniors. The questions are with athleticism.

now, i thought padgett was known for his athleticism.  and i don't want to project on a players' growth; i hear that all the time.  an inch might be nice but an inch of height won't help a player pick up the nuances of the game or give that player more heart or more athleticism.

good point about where he is and where coker and evans were as high schoolers, indeed.

Pitt may not have enough room for Padgett. I know that Durand Scott is a much much higher priority for them.

According to Zags he will not be visiting Pitt...

"As for the 6-7 Padgett, he had an in-home with Coach Roberts on Monday. The latest on him is that he will NOT take an official visit this weekend to Pitt,"

Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez and assistant Derm Player had an in-home visit Wednesday night with James Padgett and his parents.

“It was alright,” the 6-foot-7, 210-pound Padgett said tonight by phone. “It was informative.”

Bobby Gonzalez should start recruiting some REGIS kids, they would definitely qualify

Did this kid really not like his 2 visits:

Maryland- “I would say it was a fair visit,” Padgett told TerrapinTimes.com.

Seton Hall

“It was alright,” Padgett said tonight by phone. “It was informative.”

Very bland comments. Most kids even if the school is their 5th choice
 would be more enthusiastic.

Maybe he hasn't been coached in the social graces.

Maybe he's giving honest remarks instead of the PC, media-made answers that a lot of the 17 year olds already know how to give.

Man, I love it.  He's playing it close!  That way, if he calls a school "interesting" or "intriguing," we'll know that he's head over heels.

I doubt, at Lincoln, that he has been "coached in the social graces."
After the efforts that these coaching staffs go through, his limited answers might normally call into question his attitude.

 TRabinowitz,
Do you happen to know if he will be qualified academically?

Didn't want to stay in NY.
Hopefully this helps us with Jordan Williams.
