St. John's +3
Xavier -1
DePaul -1
Seton Hall -1
Tiebreakers: Providence swept season series with Georgetown. Marquette & Creighton split, but Marquette has the better conference win compared to Creighton (beat #3 Providence)

Georgetown and Nova would be a huge hurdle to get over to get to the big east title.

Yeah, that would be the worst possible scenario for us. Hopefully, things change before the end of the season.

Agree. But as Lou used to say "Hey, you can't pick your spots!". :)
-
lol yeah, Gtown and Nova are really the only two teams I don't want to play.
I don't think Butler beats us at MSG. We would be hungry for that.
-
Wonder how Butler losing the kid, Andrew Chrabascz, affects them rest of way. They have the slimmest of margins holding on to that 2 seed with a game at Xavier coming up. They could just as easily slide down to 3 or 4 as much as staying at 2.
-
I want to avoid Nova for as long as possible. Any other team I am confident in the garden .
-
I like the way things look right now. Obviously a lot is still to be decided over the next few conference games. But, based on us holding the tiebreaker over providence and xavier, it seems the most likely scenario is sju ends up as a 4 or 5 seed. Assuming butler or gtown finish as the 3, this is probably the best scenario as it would set up a first round game against either providence or xavier. Of course, this would also lead to (if sju wins in the first game) a match up against nova. But, tourney fate is likely sealed by that point and losing to nova wouldn't hurt in that regard.
-
I refuse to accept that we can't beat Nova. I'm sure our players believe that we can beat them.

I just want to see us have the chance. Win our first game in the tournament, and then let's see what happens.
Would LOVE to see us in the semis on Friday night. The kids deserve that atmosphere.

I feel much more confident about a garden win vs nova then I do gtown.

Seriously! Ive never seen a sju BE semi finals game.

Is there such a thing? :)

Any team can throw a stinker, then they look beatable. Of course if we play our 2 best halves of the season they also look beatable, and the would be.

To get an all session pass to the tourney is better to go through the school or would it be the same as going through any other ticket service?

I only go through the school so not sure which is better, just know that if you go through the school they have a ridiculous policy that requires someone to sign for the fedex package in person, so have them direct it to a place where someone is around during the day.

Thanks

No reason we cant beat Nova if we have a good game. Our quickness can play with them. For the younger crowd.....I went to every BE torney from 1979 thru the early 90s. The atmosphere when SJU makes a run is incredible. Often SJU is outdrawn...in those days by Gtown, Syr and UConn, but the city comes together and goes crazy when SJU has a good torney. The noise level reaches volumes you have never heard.
-
Decided against full session pass with my season tickets. Hope they make me regret it. =D
-
The game DJ got hurt vs Syracuse was the best game experience that I ever had as a St. John's fan. Conference isn't the same, but we should do well every year. Hoping to play butler in 4/5 game. Would not bet against us Friday night vs NOVA.
-
Watching the Nova/Xavier game. They just showed bracket as of now. We would get Providence on Thursday at 2:30pm.
-
For the bracket geeks, should we split the last 2 games are we still in that 2:30pm Thursday slot? Looking to make plans
-
We need to sweep and georgtown would have to lose one to tie for 3rd. They play seton hall and Butler. Don't know what tie breaker is.Almost certain playing in 4/5 game at 2:30. Sucks parent teacher conference.
-
Anyone have a link to purchase tickets? Probably just looking to go to our session that Thursday

So we most likely get providence in our big east tournament game? I thought it was a near lock that we'd get Georgetown?

Still up in the air. Providence would be #2 seed if they win out.
-
Are we locked in at tha2pm game Thursday?
-
Are we rooting for Georgetown or Butler?
-
Are we rooting for Georgetown or Butler?
It really doesn't matter at the end of the day. But I'm rooting for Butler because I don't like the Hoyas.
-
Rooting for Georgetown since we beat them, makes our "Good wins" look a little bit better.
-
How do they call that foul?
-
However it shakes out, I want to avoid Georgetown in the first game.
would match rather see the friars
-
How do they call that foul?
Agree.
Crafty play there at the end by Smith-Rivera. It was almost like he was anticipating Josh Smith to miss the FT, and had a bead on the ball

Did you see the game the other day where the kid had to miss intentionally and didnt?
was it the Gonzaga game? I forget what game I was watching.

Gonzaga hit the FT when he was intentionally trying to miss it, right? Against BYU? I do remember something similar happening.

I would like the Friars, because i want payback for last year, but I think Georgetown has a lot of trouble shooting. Only Smith-Rivera can consistently hit a 3, and even a lot of his points came in garbage time. I like how we're defending.
But Dunn is a terrific point guard, and if he's on, Providence can be very, very good. That, and I think it's really hard to beat a BE team 3 times in one season.

This here is why I'd prefer G'town over Providence, if I had to choose one.
I'll say that we pretty much handled Providence in both games. They weren't "down to the wire" games. Our team can also give Dunn a few problems, as we're long, athletic, and match up well with him.

Up to the minute the standing are:
1) Nova (14-2)
2) Georgetown (11-6)
3) Butler (11-6)
4) Providence (10-6)
5) St. Johns (9-7)
If Providence beats SH tomorrow there will be a 3 way tie for 2nd.
This weekend Butler plays Providence while Georgetown plays SH.
So if the favorites win out and there are no upsets, we will play the loser of the Butler / Providence game.
-
Who cares who we play. We can easily beat both team, we can easily lose to both teams. Aside from Nova and the bottom 3, the games will be a crapshoot.

I see us playing the Bulldogs, as I believe Providence will end up finishing in 2nd, while G'town and Butler rounds out 3rd and 4th, respectively.

I think Butler probably would worry me the most out of the three.
Also, I can't just throw out that Georgetown killed us barely 2 weeks ago. Too fresh in my memory.
Beating a team 3 times is difficult, but we have providence's number. Georgetown has the size and athleticism to match up with us. They can block shots and take the ball away from us. And they have the ability to kill us on the boards. No other team outside of Villanova has that type of game in them. Doesn't always come out, but they can be a bad matchup.
Providence is never a bad matchup, it's just a question of if we play well that day

I'm not one who thinks G'town is a bad matchup for us. Hence, why I truly felt we would beat them a few days ago. Our quickness and length can create some tough assignments, as well.
I agree Providence doesn't particularly worry me. Even more so, considering we handled 'em both games. Personally, I just hate having to beat a team 3 or more times in one season.
It's looking like we're going to get Butler, if things go accordingly. They beat us at home without Jordan and hammered us at Butler.
They wouldn't be the team I'd initially pick to play in the first game, but I do feel we can beat 'em.

1st round mush for Baldi greatly benefits us :)

Thought we were playing providence lol

How come people worry because it is hard to beat a team 3x meaning Providence but yet they still don't want to play Butler even thou they would have to beat us a third time? Should work both ways , no?

If we play the same type of game we played against Georgetown at the Garden, we would beat Butler easily. In both games, we let them set tempo and got stuck playing a halfcourt offense. Of course, it wouldn't have mattered in the second game. The team was totally rattled once CO got tossed.
-
Hoping for butler. Think they are least talented. Also won't bring any fans . Should be a home game.
-
I hope we beat Marquette.....and we get Diallo and CO and RJ stay another year.
-
Sterling Gibbs is back. This guy scares me going in the BET
-
Seton Hall looking legit right now
-
On TV it looks like there are about 1500 fans at this game.
Dunn and Henton getting it going early in the second half. And Gibbs too
