Suero was averaging over 23 ppg in leading his team to a 6-0 start at the Reebok Summer Championships, but they lost in the opening round of the Championship bracket to the Houston Elite.

This kid can score the ball.

OSNA Guard Has High D-1 Interest

July 25, 2008

Gerardo Suero, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard from Our Savior New American in Centereach, N.Y., has been showcasing his skills with Mickey Walker's Upstate Basketball Club at the Reebok Summer Championship in Las Vegas while he awaits word on his qualifying status
.
"We're waiting to hear back from the (NCAA) Clearinghouse to see if he's going to be qualified or not," said Eric Jaklitsch, an assistant coach at Our Savior New American and one of Suero's coaches with the New York Elite AAU team.

Suero is being monitored by Memphis, DePaul, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. John's, Washington St., UCLA, Marquette, and USC, according to Jaklitsch.

"Those are the schools that are actively recruiting him right now," said Jaklitsch.

A slasher with good body control and the ability to get to the rack, Suero averaged 31 points per game as a senior at Our Savior.

"He's a wing guard who gets to the basket and scores," said Jaklitsch.

p.s. - It appears this kid is really "elevating" his game right now & he could be a good alternative if we miss on our top targets at his position for '09. Unfortunately, it appears his academic situation is very much in question at this point.... From what i hear though he is a nice kid who comes from a good family. Wherever he ends up i wish him the best of luck.

Vegas Events Top Surprises

Gerardo Suero, SG, Upstate Basketball Club
One year removed from his native Dominican Republic, Suero has a number of schools waiting to see if he can get through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
A lanky, athletic wing slasher, Suero carved up defenses with his dribble penetration and tough shot-making ability to the tune of 23.4 ppg as the No. 5 scorer in the Reebok Summer Championships. He also passed the ball with savvy and hit outside jumpers when the defense slacked off

Former OSNA Guard Plagued With Indecision

By Mike Sullivan

Posted Aug 22, 2008

Gerardo Suero, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard from Our Savior New American in Centereach, N.Y., is currently on hold and cemented in the indecision mode, according to sources.

Suero, as reported by Brian Towey last month, had been competing for Mickey Walker's Upstate Basketball Club at the Reebok Summer Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada during the month of evaluation. Suero was impressive and had some division one programs following his progress.

Previously, Towey reported: "We're waiting to hear back from the (NCAA) Clearinghouse to see if he's going to be qualified or not," said Eric Jaklitsch, an assistant coach at Our Savior New American and one of Suero's coaches with the New York Elite AAU team.

There were several programs showing an interest in Suero's skills, including Syracuse, DePaul, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. John's, Washington St., UCLA, Marquette, and USC, according to Jaklitsch.

You get the feeling this kid can score on anybody. I hope he is still considering STJ and is still on our radar.
