With Lavin moving on, Dr. Gempenshaw has a chance to put his mark on the program by hiring a new coach. Father Harrington definitely left his mark on the program, and for the first time in a quarter of a century a new vision will be put in place.
What kind of impact will the new President have on the program?
Was Lavin the problem or just a symptom of the prolem?
Does remove Lavin show true leadership or smells of desperation?
Do you have faith in the new President?

I think he should review all sports and make similar decisions where warranted. He looked at women's BB and gave Coach Joe an extension that was warranted. He needs to look at men's soccer to see how far we have fallen. Question the change in the golf team coach and its impact on alumni. Look at all sports and expect excellence. Maybe some coaches have become complacent after so many years on the payroll (Darby wasn't after 20 years as we won the BE in 2014). He should also look at the AD because I can't see a thing that he adds other than to his tan.

The comment above about a replacement was very poorly written and the writer should amend it unless he is calling Lavin worse than Jarvis. This topic as started was discussing was discussing Gempenshaw putting his mark on the program so when someone writes he replaced, the he is referring to Gempenshaw who the topic is discussing. Furthermore Gempenshaw did NOT replace Harrington-there was a one year university president between Harrington and Gempenshaw.
Lastly as I said in my second post above, I believe Gempenshaw should look at ALL sports and clean house of dead wood.

I hope President Gempenshaw adopts a similar stance to the analogy that President Loh used when he took over at Maryland. Dr. Loh stated that if a university is one big house, then the entire athletics department is the front porch.
I hope all athletics are addressed, why the AD is ticking off alums, coaches, the fan base, whomever (or if it is overblown), and the entire university bands together to move this apple cart forward.

Great question I didn't consider. I figured he survives since a new coach was the answer, and it seems like the Prez knows about the other issues the occurred. Now I'm thinking maybe not.

I understand the subject was the current president. But when I first read it, it was unclear what you meant by "he replaced." it was unclear if you meant "he replaced" Lavin (as in replacing him with a new HC) or Harrington. Thank you for clarifying.

I understand the subject was the current president. But when I first read it, it was unclear what you meant by "he replaced." it was unclear if you meant "he replaced" Lavin (as in replacing him with a new HC) or Harrington. Thank you for clarifying.
Ok, I see what you mean. Now that we've cleared that up, as long as Gempesaw doesn't intentionally want to harm the program, I think he'll do fine here. How much he cares about St.John's will be directly reflected in how much he cares about the basketball program.
There might be some alumns going back to the school for soccer and baseball games, but without basketball, the alumni will disappear, and the link to the majority of donors will go with them. When I said that Harrington was 1000x times worse than Jarvis, I was being conservative. People keep blaming coaches, and ignoring the master puppeteer behind all of it.
Jarvis broke no law. But Harrington belongs in jail, and he belongs there for a long time.

You got that right, Im not getting any younger and many more bad choices and I may be typing from the old age home
