Predicitions
« on: September 29, 2012, 02:12:20 AM »
I know that someone else has talked about predictions for wins and losses. Let's see if we can predict for the year:

Top Scorer:
Top Rebounder:
Assist Leader:
Top Shot Blocker:
Steal Leader:
Most Improved Player:
Least Improved Player:
Top Overall Newcomer (including a Freshman, Transfer or JUCO):
Top Freshman:

And last but not least, how many points per game do you think the team will average this year?

Top Scorer: Harrison

Steal Leader: Garrett

Least Improved Player: Achiuwa
Top Overall Newcomer (including a Freshman, Transfer or JUCO): Sanchez
Top Freshman: Sampson

Low 80s, even though crgreen will tell us that a Lavin team is usually in the 70s. I think the offense really clicks and we make a lot of noise nationally at end of year.

Actually, Steve's 2nd Bruin team (which featured 5 frosh in the 10 man rotation) averaged almost 86 a game.    Even Steve's worse team at UCLA, the 10-18 team his final season there averaged almost 76 pts a game.   That team fell apart on defense, not on offense.

If we press on Defense as much as I THINK we will with this teams depth, length and athleticism, I think low to mid 80's is a solid estimate.   Depends on how quickly the new talent meshes, and how many games into the season Steve will be "experimenting" with lineups before settling on a final lineup and rotation.   And, of course, how quickly and how non-disruptive integrating Branch will be come midseason.  I don't think the Big East is anywhere near as strong as previous years, especially defensively, so I don't think the scoring average will drop over the second half of the season all that much.

I think we have 4-5 double digit scorers this year, and  3 more in the 6-9 pt range.

But how good this team will be will be determined more by our opponent's scoring average than by ours.

Ah, did not know they averaged high 80s that year, but not a shock. I'd love to see us at 80+. It would make for an exciting season.

Agree..Winning is the key to recruiting but up-tempo, high scoring is right up there as well

Don't see Opekpa getting enough PT to lead in rebs but may still lead in shot blocking. better chance Sanchez or JaKarr lead in rebs.

i see a lot of posters chose GG as least improved player.  i stand in the minority on this on two accounts.  first, i don't see really see a need for identifying someone for this since i support the team and wish everyone improves.  and second, i believe that GG will be much better than last year, because i thought his biggest problem last year was lack of experience and understanding of the game.  i see a great physical presence, great strength, great motor, and good skills for a big man.  maybe not the best hands.  but someone who is still learning the game.  fwiw, i see upside for him.  i'm just wondering who worked with him in the off season.  i thought a big man's camp would have done him a world of good.

I agree 100%. His biggest problem was that he didn't understand the game. It comes down to what he did over the summer to get better. He was overmatched in almost every BE game, but then again, he had very little help, and he was the only player on the team holding down the fort inside who wasn't 18.

And again, I agree. I shouldn't have answered that question. None of us should have. We should be here to support our guys. We've waited a long time to field a complete team w top 25 potential.
