Daequon Montreal - SF/ PF - College of Southern Idaho (JUCO)

St. John's has shown some interest in the JUCO PF from Corcoran HS in Syracuse, as have Gonzaga, Oral Roberts (who have extended offers); Colorado State, U of Washington, Oklahoma may be interested.  Sources:

He scored 9.6 points (56% shooting) and 4.3 rebounds in 15 mins/g last year (http://www.scenicwestsports.com/mbball/cumstat2007-08/csi.htm#team.ind), playing with (behind?) recruiting target Juan Patillo.  This year he plays with Nate Miles... the guy who got booted from U Conn.

8th team all state in 06 http://old.thedailystar.com/sports/2006/05/18/spalstat5.html.

Additionally:

He had committed to Texas Christian before going JUCO.  Descriptions from Rivals:

"Daequon could really be special," said Southern Idaho assistant coach Steve Gosar. "He's 6-foot-8, bouncy, and he can score on the block as well as step out and shoot the three. He's a really nice player and we really like him a lot. He's as tough as nails and he's going to be really good. He's definitely an all-league player in the making."

"Daequon probably won't be getting any offers until next year. He's definitely going to be a solid D-I player though, and he'll be a really good sophomore for us next season," [CSI coach] Peery said. "I know Washington has been writing to him, but he'll wait until next year to focus on his recruitment. He's all over the board right now."

Montreal is a 6-foot-8, 215-pound power forward (from God's Academy in Syracuse, NY) who is averaging 9.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game for the Golden Eagles. He is shooting 58 percent from the floor and also has 13 blocked shots on the year.

"He's also a 4-man for us, though he's not as skilled on the perimeter as Patillo. He's better suited to play in the post and has done a real good job as a freshman," said Peery. "Daequon's a great athlete. He gets on the glass and rebounds really well and also has the ability to shoot the trail 3."

Note that he went 3-15 (20%) from beyond the arc, and his FT % is 67%; those numbers don't quite say "deadeye."

He graduated the same year I did from HS.  I have actually played him a few times in AAU.  Kid was good back then but wasn't good enough to play here.  Not sure how he has progressed over the last 2 1/2 years but he definitately has the body.
