I've said it before - aside from Nova, who is the best team in the conference by a landslide, I think that Gtown is the toughest matchup for us.  Their front court is more athletic and skilled than Xavier.  Yes, we destroyed them last year at home (I was at the game).  That was with Sampson and Sanchez to play the middle of the zone and offset some of Gtown's length.  And that was without Josh Smith.  Obekpa at Hopkins up last year, but he won't be on him as long as Smith is on the floor.  Last game, the inside touches to those guys opened up everything for Gtown's guards/wings.

We aren't beating Gtown in a game like last night against Xavier, where our athleticism and quickness can just take over.  We need D-lo, Sheed, Phil and Branch to make outside shots against the zone we will inevitably see.  We start hitting from outside and it changes the game.  We struggle and it will be a long day.

I think it's so ironic that after 4 years of trying to get to tourney for these srs, they can clinch a NCAA berth on Sr. day with a win.  What an incredible story line should they win.

I think it would be great if we beat Georgetown, and I think we will. Incredible is too much. We waxed them last year, and over the course of our rivalry with Georgetown, we've actually faired better than any other BE program.

Incredible is winning the BE tourney.

Kidding aside, I hope it's not too cold for our fragile student to trek out to Queens. Players gotta play tough. Students don't know what that word means.

Me personally, I'd be running ads on the radio and on tv to get a big turnout for this game.

Btw, I was in Modells last night and saw batman and spiderman Under Armour stuff for the first time.

St Johns 70 Georgetown 65

Dee with 25
Pointer 15, 10 boards, 4 blocks, 4 steals
Jordan 10 points
Greene 10 points
Bench and CO chip in with 10 total  CO has 10 boards and 4 blocks

On a more serious note, I hope the team comes out with a purpose for 40 minutes tomm, it's really a must win to get the bubble off their back's. Still got to win the Marquette game but then everything else is gravy

Why worry about it?  It may not be sustainable long-term or even this game, but if we score 30-35 points next half (which could very, well happen), then we'll be fine.

Get Josh Smith to pick up another two quick fouls, and he'll sit most of the 2nd half.  I'm not worried about Hopkins whenever Obekpa is in the game.

I feel good about this one.

So, much for not matching up against G'town, huh?   We were never threatened, IMO.

Win against Marquette on Wednesday, and next Saturday is "house money."

Seems like it's Harrison that doesn't match up well against Georgetown.  Not that it doesn't count because it does and it was a great win, but Greene needed a career night to make up for Harrison's horrible play against Georgetown, which is a pretty much a sure thing now.

great game. Greene Pointer and Branch all stepping up for a really bad day for Harrison. Great win!  Now let's beat Marq and Nova and secure a decent seed in the tourney.

Obekpa and Jordan both have little basketball IQ. Why Lavin lets Jordan handle the ball is beyond comprehension.

Jordan's handle is awful and he is strictly an off guard. He makes some of the dumbest plays when it comes to balll control and turnovers that I've seen. He really lacks bball iq.

remarkable game considering Dlo problems.  Dom as usual is the man and Greene had his best game ever at precisely the right time.  Tourney should be a lock.  CO has to play smarter

Maybe u can't see as well on tv. But he played excellent post defense. Made it very hard on smith even catching the ball. Obekpa played very well.

Tremendous win.  Great crowd.  Georgetown is good - the showing today shouldn't take away from that.  They are big, skilled, and DSR is a legitimate big time scorer.  Getting Smith in foul trouble was HUGE because they couldn't play him and Hopkins against us at the same time.

This was the polar opposite of the game down in DC.  Where everything broke for Gtown that game, the same happened for us today.

Phil, Dom and Branch were great.  Jordan overall was good.  Chris Mack said it after the first Xavier game, but Obekpa's ability to defend entry passes into the post is the most underrated aspect of his game.  He caused all kinds of problems.

Kind of ironic that we get our biggest win over the past 2 years with Harrison having an off game because of foul trouble.  We have relied on this kid for the past 3 years to carry us offensively, so it was nice to get a huge W with him having an off game.

Beat Marquette and we are talking about seeding.  I still think we are in either way, but next week a W over Marquette is the icing on the cake.

Best crowd we have has for the hated Hoya's in years.  The seniors did not disappoint.  While D'angelo was off today the team picked it up.  No More complaints by anyone about Phil--he has come through again for the team; almost seemed that missing D'angelo spurred him on.  Great day with a great atmosphere.

Pearls of wisdom, so ya said it twice. Do ya really think this team would be better if he were glued to the bench? Giving you a third chance.

First off, I never said he sucks.
Secondly, as I now said twice, I think we are better with him on the bench. He played 19 minutes today, that is perfect

I think Baldi's point is that when we are playing well offensively and surviving on the defensive end, it is better to give CO some rest with the foot/ankle problem.  Obviously when we are getting beat around the basket or on the boards we need Obekpa badly.  Him and Dom turned the recent Xavier game around, and Obekpa's defensive presence in the first half today was huge.

Who drew the early fouls on Smith? Obekpa or Pointer. Dom and the guards are good enough to make them adjust to us, not vice versa

Terrific win today. One senior had a rough game, and seeing the others pick him up like that was inspiring. Maybe they are coming together at the right time? Obekpa, hopefully, will
grow up before then.

Props to all the seniors for not giving up on the season they fell to 14-8.
It's a group that has finally shown everyone how tough they are.

Congratulations to Phil Greene IV who scored a career high 26 points.  Passing Ken McIntyre, Shawnelle Scott and James Buchanon to move into 32nd on the St. John's University all-time scoring list!

Mr. McIntyre led the Johnnies to the 1964/65 Nit tournament championship as a senior.  He went 144 for 164 from the line that season for a blistering 88%.
Mr. Scott was a powerhouse player that shot a very effective 54% from the field while at St. John's including a scintillating 59% in his junior year, 1992/93.
Mr. Buchanan was a pure point who was a great passer with a strong handle that still managed to score almost 1200 points in the late 80's and early 90's.

Thanks for explaining, and that was a good post. As a fan of a team with no height and depth I sure am glad an impact player like CO is doing his part. I don't think we would be where we are if he were not part of the only team I root for.

Missed it and don't see a replay anywhere.  Too bad it wasn't a fox game.  Heard some on the radio as I drove around aimlessly.

How was the senior ceremony?  Did our boys get the send-off they deserve?  Hope video of that makes it's way onto Redstormsports.com.

What percentage of the crowd was us to them?

Place wasn't as full as I hoped it would be at the beginning for the seniors ceremony.  But the kids got a nice hand.  Overall though, the crowd was the best for a non-Duke game since the Pitt/Hardy game a few years ago.  Close to 14,000 and predominantly SJU fans.

We're dancin and I am so, so very happy for this group of seniors!

From this day forward, the names Jamal Branch, Phil Greene IV, DeAngelo Harrison, Kadeem Ndiaye and Sir Dominic Pointer will be exalted. On par with seniors Malik Boothe, Justin Burrell, Justin Brownlee, Dwight Hardy, Paris Horne and D J Kennedy forevermore and forevermore.

If they somehow actually win a tournament game...they'll have surpassed them in our hearts and minds.   :-*

Wish we could have a crowd like that at every one of the garden games. Shows you if the team is good and the matchup is right we can pack the house. Consistent winning will lead to more crowds like yesterday. St. John's has a nice group of die hards but it's those fans that follow the team but don't attend a lot of games unless the team is good that's key. As with any team in any sport winning is the main thing to put fans in the seats.
