Dan McDonald | Rivals.com contributor
"Moses Brown is already the No. 44 ranked prospect in the 2018 class, and for good reason. At 6-foot-11, he’s a long, athletic post player with great hands and soft touch around the basket. He’s still raw and needs to add strength, but the tools are there for him to become an elite post prospect."

Eric Hampford – @F150EricH
The upside factor for @NewHeightsNYC 2018 big man Moses Brown is astounding. Legit 7-footer who had coaches raving in NYC. #UAA

Also recently Brown attended the St. John’s Elite Camp, and he came away impressed.
“That was a real good experience,” Brown explained. “A lot of the top kids in the city were there so I got to play against my friends, and it was just a lot of fun.”
While Brown says he isn’t yet close to a decision, he does know what he will be looking for in a school when the time comes to decide.

St. John's is also involved and Brown has worked out their several times.
"St. John's, I actually like St. John's," he said. "I was in there two weeks before school started. I was in there to workout, they let me use the gym. They said I could go anytime to put up shots, me and my father, so that's just a blessing, I could use the gym any time I want."

St John's will host top junior target Moses Brown tonight #sjubb

Realize it's kinda' tough to miss a 7-footer, but I didn't see him there tonight.

I was looking for him too, didn't see him.

Kid is up to 20 in 2018 but I don't see us mentioned as offering or in the hunt. Comments or info? Kid is a couple of miles away, need to get him.
-
Actually checking him out tomorrow. Im coaching at my alma matter, the jv team and our varsity is having a non league game with them tomorrow. Excited to see what Moses and Cole do against us.

He'll be rec recruited over.

Is St. John's recruiting him or Cockburn?

You have a better chance with Kofi Cockburn than Brown. Brown thinks he is a 5 star talent (which he is not) and will probably be in Prep school next year.

Bingo. Anybody associated with the program from players to coaches to "boosters" should not be tweeting or making specific public/social media posts about an unsigned recruit.
It's a minor violation but someone I'm sure at the University told him to take it down.

That would be some hell of a class with Diakite as well who looks like a solid 3-4 star guy. Won't hold my breath but better then the source saying we won't get either.

That would be awesome. I don't remember the last time we landed a consensus now top 10 recruit (I think Brown is around #6 right now). How reliable is this source lol?

Lets be honest here, this would be unbelievable, but it most definitely sounds way to good to be true. I just have a feeling that we may be getting our hopes up as per usual to be let down, but I hope that I'm wrong!

Regardless, how reliable the source, things can change. So, temper your enthusiasm until one or both signs on the dotted line.
By the way, Brown's dad is big on Georgetown, and with Ewing now being their head coach, they could be in the "thick of it." As, fordham stated, you always have to keep an eye out for Kentucky (or the other blue blood's).
I've said it before, but 15-20 years ago was a different time in recruiting. Of course, the blue blood schools got their share, but it was never on this level where one automatically sense they weren't gonna get a kid when they hear the mention of Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke (maybe, a couple of others, but those are the main three doing work when it comes to snatching most of the 5-star rated kids).
-
This happens at all levels of recruiting. You recruit a kid for a long time and then a bigger schools comes around and takes them last minute. We do it to smaller schools and the blue bloods do it to us. Just gota cast a wide net and hope every once in a while you can land one of the big fish.

I'm more than aware it happens, but it didn't happen as often as it does nowadays, as it did 15-20 years ago.
-
Mo Harkless stayed home; and he has a good NBA career. Shamorie Ponds stayed home, and is off to a great college career. Obviously others including Ron Artest, Felipe Lopez, Zendon Hamilton have had NBA careers. The pitch could be; if you are an NBA talent, stay in NY a little longer and play in front of family and friends because you will be away after you go pro.

Wasn't addressing you I was speaking in general. It's easier to recruit all over the country then it it was years ago. Budgets are bigger and kids see more games on tv instead of just local games. Also social media and recruiting sites have grown. Just some of the reasons there are a ton more im sure.

If I learned 1 thing as a fan, I don't get too excited w 5 star kids until they sign and get cleared.

That's because most 5 stars are one and done whereas years ago they stayed 2, 3, even 4 years. Now the Dukes, Kansas's and Kentucky's must replace most of those 5 stars every year because they don't have those talents in the soph, jr or sr classes.
-
He does mention us and I find it interesting that he brought us up...which could be taken as a positive but he also said we don't really compare to the Dukes and Kentuckys.

This would mean he wants to be committed by end of July....

I don't think he actually means this. Put it to you another way, I don't think Brown will be committed by end of July.

Hear Duke is in very good shape with Brown.
Need to wrap up Muhammad before ND does and before bigger programs come calling.
-
Hear Duke is in very good shape with Brown.
Who's dook not in very good shape with?
-
Brown has visited the campuses of Maryland, Connecticut and St. John's and discussed those visits.
Maryland: "It was good. They didn't play such a good team so at first the gym wasn't even packed. But then like two minutes later it was standing room only. That's the type of crowd I want to go to."
UConn: "They talk a lot about development. They usually have a good team and they've had some pros."
St. John's: "That's the hometown team. They feel like I could be the man in New York City. They say a lot of top 10 type talent tends to leave their hometown but they feel like I could stay home and make a name for myself in my own city."
Among the many other programs involved are Kansas, Duke, Arizona, Kentucky, Minnesota, Georgetown and Florida. Brown isn't yet sure on when he'll look to make a decision, but he would like to cut things down before his senior year starts.
"It will probably be late summer after the live period when I cut things down," said Brown. "Right now I'm just focused on playing.
https://twitter.com/ebosshoops/status/869077636311601153
Obviously not deciding after July recruiting period ends, just cutting list down.
-
A puncher's chance... I'll take it. He should have a good team around him here, and has friends on the team. Maybe this is the one to turn the tide... fingers crossed.

This most recent video was very interesting and the and quotes above are intriguing as well. I never thought that he was a possibility but you can tell that he is liking the staff's pitch. He repeats 'hometown' twice in the video and in the quote above, we're on his mind.

Are you an FBI profiler by trade? ;) :)
-
Call me insane, but I'm not super high on Moses. . Seems like staff wants to be more of a run and gun team. Moses doesn't strike me as a player that fits that scheme. Yeah his size would help on boards, but we have a few athletic guys in that 6'5" - 6'8" range who are capable of rebounding at a high level and can get up and down the floor in a flash.

Or, a psychologist. :)
Frankly, I'd take what Brown said, in regards to "hometown," with a grain of salt. If we make his final two list, then things could get quite interesting.
-

That's the problem, as we didn't rebound at a high level, though. Getting up and down the floor quickly is all well and good, as long as you have players who know how to play the game. But, that's even better if you're in a track meet.
Brown may not be a necessity to some fans, but garnering his services could be more of a "feather in the cap" scenario for those particular fans and even for the staff.

I'll take any top 10ish talent regardless of whether they are a fit or not. We aren't Kentucky can't pick and choose just gotta get good players when we can.
-
The kid is 7'1" and mobile. He can certainly get up and down the court fast enough. Uconn won multiple national championships with big centers who weren't as good as Moses, and they still played fast-paced ball. He'd be difficult to stop if the rest of the team is as fast and athletic as it is now.

I guess I should have worded that differently. My point is that I wouldn't be too stressed if we didn't land Moses. There are other targets that I would rather see in red who I feel like fit into our style. .
With that being said, if he chose us I wouldn't chase him off campus.

Yeah, it's difficult to replace top 10 7'1" kids from NYC. Maybe it should become our style, because our "style" seems to be losing...

To me the elephant in the room when it comes down to Moses' recruitment is the notion that he considers himself a one and done prospect while anyone who watches his game thinks the opposite.
It'll be interesting to see how CM, who as a NBA front office executive for decades and straight shooter, either appeases Moses' grandiose ideas or lays out the facts knowing the repercussions of a honest evaluation. It probably falls in a middle ground where a projected workout and conditioning program will fast forward his track to the league. Obviously the NY media and exposure pitch is already ongoing.
After watching him in person twice this year, it's obvious that he is not Kevin Garnett or even Tyson Chandler as a 16 year old. However his sound fundamentals, solid shooting form, and feathery touch for someone his height are appealing. He really needs to put on weight and muscle and massively improve his rebounding prowess before he even steps on a college floor, nevermind NBA however.

I don't think this is an issue at all. A lot of kids think they are one and one done, some are and a lot aren't. If he plays one season and plays great for us and goes to the NBA then that will help with future recruiting and could helps us compete for NCAA bid. If he isn't a one and done then maybe he stays 2-3 years and becomes a big contributor for us. Don't see the downside or any issue with either scenario.

To me the elephant in the room when it comes down to Moses' recruitment is the notion that he considers himself a one and done prospect while anyone who watches his game thinks the opposite.

I think he has a good chance to be a one and done on potential alone. IMO he's ahead of Justin Patton at the same age. He obviously will need to produce like Patton did at Creighton, but if he could be a potential mid first rounder in the strong 2017 draft then I can see Moses going in the first in a much weaker 2018 NBA draft. It would do him very well to bulk up. He's listed at 210 which is way too skinny for someone his size. If he can get up to 230ish which is what Patton in listed as nowadays then he could be a real force.

Although, Patton only played one season at Creighton, he was actually a redshirt freshmen.

I know that was part of why I said the same age. Patton was more physically mature as a freshman because he was already a year removed from HS and had been working out at Creighton for a year. Obviously Brown won't redshirt, but coming out of HS I prefer Brown to Patton is what I'm saying.

Moses Brown is the type of kid that was our bread and butter during the Louie days, lots of NYC kids left but Louie always got his share. I don't think we land him but it would be nice

Sounds like he likes Duke a lot.
-
Gotta be in it to win it. I'm sure he is still a long shot but the fact that he mentioned Sid can't hurt and we are obviously still in the mix to some extent.

Krysten Peek predicts the Johnnies....
Where he will be: The highest-ranked player on the Under Armour circuit, Brown should be in the Atlanta area with his club team New Heights for this week’s Under Armour Finals. He’ll also hit events like UA All-America Camp.
Who is involved: Brown hasn’t cut down his list at all and has the likes of Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, St. John’s and many more chasing.
Pre-live period prediction: Kentucky (Evans, McDonald), Kansas (Bossi), St. John's (Peek)

Hopefully he is at the PEEK of the prognosticators!
See Naz Reid has all 4 predicting LSU. Must have some leftover football money to give out.

I would be surprised if Moses ends up at Kentucky

Louisville has seemingly honed in on is Briarwood, N.Y., big man Moses Brown, who ranks as the No. 2 center prospect in the '18 class by Scout.com. He check in as the No. 6 prospect overall.
"They have made me a priority," Brown said. "They're definitely coming after me hard and telling me they want me.
"(Rick Pitino) has told me that he wants me to come in and make an immediate impact."
The 7-foot Brown said he's "paying attention" to the schools that really want him by seeing what coaches are watching his New Heights AAU team at the Under Armour finals. He'll attend the Under Armour camp in Philadelphia next weekend.
And then he said he has some things to do.
"I have not gotten around to cutting my list just yet," he said. "I'll probably do that after the summer.
"I want to get to visit some schools. But I don't have anything set up right now."
Brown has dozens of college scholarship offers, while U of L, Indiana, Maryland, Duke, Kentucky, St. John's and Arizona are the schools that he said are showing him a ton of interest.

I heard Pitino will let Brown sniff his fingers.

www.fanragsports.com/cbb/zagoria-7-foot-...high-school-college/
It appears that Moses Brown will take one of two paths in the next couple of months.
Either the 7-foot-1 center from Queens, N.Y., will remain at Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood, N.Y., and help the Stanners challenge for New York City Catholic League and New York State Federation titles in 2018 … or he will become the latest prep star to leave New York and transfer to a national high school powerhouse, such as IMG Academy (Fla.), Montverde Academy (Fla.) or Oak Hill Academy (Va.)

Breaking news: Brown will either stay where he is or go somewhere else. Tune in next week for our exciting conclusion.

The thing about top 10 rising senior Moses Brown is that you have to be willing to be in it for the long haul with him. What I mean is that at this point the mobile 7-footer is a bit inconsistent but the potential long term payoff is considerable.
I'll be real interested to see how Brown looks after some time in a college weight room. The key for Brown is going to be picking a place that has proven to play through their big men for long stretches.
St. John's, Kansas, Kentucky, Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota, Florida, Arizona, Louisville, Arizona and UCLA are among those giving heavy chase.

In good shape with the Molloy boy

wow... pleasantly surprised.... figured we'd eventually fade.

Hopefully you are right. At UK or Duke he is one of many, at SJU he will be THE MAN in NYC and the Garden. Hope this is his thinking.

Love it thanks Baldi.

Yeah, I heard a couple weeks ago that our recruitment and chances of landing Moses Brown was quite iffy.
-
Hopefully he's enrolled and within arms reach at Molloy. That team is going to be outstanding this year with the likes Khalid Moore, Cole Anthony, Moses and group of rising sophomores and juniors that patiently rode the bench last season.

My Molloy people told me from the beginning he wasn't coming to SJU, Maryland is what I heard quite some time ago. Who knows.

Family member is a rising soph, this team is going to be very good.
-
The coach at Molloy is worse than Norm. He is an absolute joke. With the talent Molloy has, they should never lose a game but CTK will beat them this year as usual.
-
With that talent, Molloy should be a top 25 national team but without good coaching it means nothing.

Just read an article that it looks like Kentucky won't offer him and that UCLA, Maryland, Florida State are the contenders. I've also found out that Moses Brown does some training and spends some time in my hometown of Long Beach. I'd be more than willing to make the $ drop to swoop in and get this kid if an alumni want to pony up the dough.

SJU has not been in the mix for a while, but FYI:
Per Seth Davis
Good news for @UCLAMBB. The Fieldhouse has learned via @Andrew__Slater that 7-ft C Moses Brown, a McDonald's All-American from Archbishlop Molloy, will announce today he is headed for UCLA. Was also considering UK, Fla St & Md. @TheAthleticCBB
