2019 and Beyond: NCAA Recruiting Reform

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/the-ncaa-listened-after-college-basketball-coaches-complained-about-changing-recruiting-rules/

Now that the 2018 AAU period is over:

--NCAA, NBA, NBAPA, Team USA and Government committees are virtually tying shoe companies hands beginning next offseason by confining the July evaluation period to 2 July weeks instead of 3. Peach Jam consumes the first wknd, and the 2nd wknd is a newly formed TeamUSA sanctioned wknd. So shoe companies basically have 1 wknd to host in front of NCAA coaches.

--The High School presence in recruiting will be reintroduced to the fray. HS coaches are now back in the game of recruiting relationships. The recruiting calendar will now include optional April wknds at respective HS's and introduce June as a live period. June will include HS team camp wknds, without any shoe company presence.

--NCAA coaches are given the same number of days on the road (130), however it's now spread out between Apr-early July with options to choose from. This allows NCAA coaches to get back on campus for Summer instruction with their programs earlier.

All in all I'm a huge fan of this. It's functional, organic and with the correct supervision in place. Credit to the college coaches apart of the NABC who put this together.

If you think this will remove the shoe companies I don’t believe it will. There is nothing preventing them from sponsoring the HS camps. You will see more HS programs being sponsored similar to college. For cash strapped programs, or any HS program in general, they will welcome it with open arms. It will become a recruiting tool for HS programs to lure recruits as their program is sponsored by...(fill in the blank) and they have all the bells and whistles that comes with that. They will find a way.

Read the article fam:

How recruiting in June would look

"The final two weekends of June will now include scholastic-sponsored events that will begin Friday at 5 p.m. local and conclude early Sunday evening. The events will be put on in conjunction with state high school associations and/or basketball coaches' associations in those states. They will be akin to traditional basketball jamborees or team camps. The details and locations of these camps are still to be determined.
The camps will have no apparel-company presence. This will be high schoolers being evaluated while playing with high school teammates and others from their general area."

I didn’t see that High schools are not permitted to be sponsored by a shoe company and can’t run a camp of their own during that period. We’ll see.

Fast forward to the 4:35 minute mark to get a feel of what the commission is going to accomplish this month.
